I think you're right - or at least at this point I hope you're right. The awesome storytelling angle that can roll from this is that as Chief accumulates other Cortana fragments, they may not carry as many memories, but each can incrementally pick up information and start piecing this together throught he flow of the game storytelling, and walk the player through all of these realizations, and have Chief make more and more informed decisions about what actually makes the most sense to do. Really awesome set of logic, especially since it can create that instance where Chief (and maybe Blue team) really does have to break off from orders to go do something that is ultimately the right call, but would be viewed as treasonous by surviving human forces and ONI handlers, actually creating the storyline that was leading up the previous game... really excellent possiblities, I hope 343 can start to appreciate that, and realize that each installment of the game doesn't have to include a truly massive story arc on the first installment, but can come in sets and really play to the ongoing narrative that having the title be 'Infinite' would portend...

Well, by firing Installation 04b, Chief and Cortana drastically reduced the Ark's ability to make new halo rings. Hell, maybe the Ark temporarily lost its ability to fire the entire array.

With the Gravemind's near limitless intellect, he could have orchestrated it all. It has a few holes that aren't explained, such as how the Gravemind knew that Cortana would be reborn through the Domain - looking at the way the pieces of fallen?... If the Gravemind weaved thoughts and beliefs into Cortana that would have her reach foregone conclusions in her logic, all of this could be a long term (relatively speaking, a very short term) plan to take the whole galaxy. Cortana has taken control of Forerunner installations, and disabled the defenses of numerous human and covenant worlds. But what if in her corrupted state of thinking, she chose to release the Flood on these installations? Or even destroy the remaining Halo installations? This would give the Gravemind the means to take over the galaxy with no hope of stopping him. And if that is the plan?... Its possible that Mendicant Bias on the Ark could be the only one that could stop it if he overthrew Cortana.

The Index never mattered in firing Installation 04b because it was never going to get the job done. Guilty Spark said that the premature firing would destroy it and damage the Ark. The purpose was probably to give a false hope that firing a Halo at point blank would wipeout the Gravemind. Halo Wars 2 shows this failed to kill all the Flood in the remains of High Charity.

I’m sure humans did, but they stopped them in their infant stages; it would explain why they are so adamant about final dispensation towards AIs at the end or past the end of the seven year ‘life-span’. Most if not all skynet like events would be from Rampant AI. The Coves simply never trusted AIs to begin with because of the stories they recovered of Mendicant Bias and his betrayal, what few they did use were effectively lobotomized, and were somehow ‘fracturing’ due to being copied many, many times, the process dimming capabilities and thus also limiting any possible rebellion.

I always just assumed that between Halo 2 and 3 the grave-mind moved on to high charity but it's a good point that how would the grave-mind move from one location to another especially because he was in a very very hard to reach location of installation 05 since he was underground but I always assumed he had moved to high charity because his tentacles are in Halo 3s ending stopping chief and arbiter from escaping but it's something that may not help this theory is that one of the Phoenix logs from Halo wars 2 that the proto-grave mind in awakening the nightmare was a remnant of the grave mind from Halo 3 but I'm just stating what I know and I would love to see how it all happens or if the theory in incorrect it could be cool to have the grave mind forming Halo infinite and you have to do missions where you're trying to protect wildlife and marines on the Ring to prevent the flood from gaining more biomass and you could even potentially witness or be present during the actual emergence of a grave mind

i have a counter theory cortana is using the domain to contact chief in halo 3 and 5 as the domain is connected to a forerunner's armor tho they need an ai to actively communicate with it also the gravemind is not telepathic it uses neural physics to control the rest of the flood and not actively able to do communicate/control anything outside the web of the flood hivemind and the times the grave mind addresses chief its actively talking to him with sound waves which is why the arbiter reacts in cutscenes to the gravemind talking to chief

Deep cultural shame, and the fact that there were survivors, beyond the Didact and any other stowed away across the galaxy. Those survivors, Iso Didact included, chose a life in exile. They left the galaxy for Path Kethona and lived the rest of their days without technology.

Basically. They genocided their creators because of not getting the mantle. They didn't try negotiating with the ancient humans who fled from the flood *and were attacking planets*, instead inmediatly went for fullscale war, only in the end of that war they bothered to find out the truth, but they even went as far as de-evolve them towards cavemen. As they became desperate during the floodwar they tried more and more tactics that increasingly disrespected living beings until the didact even went as far as turning living beings into AI to run machines to fight the flood. Their final solution was commiting sentient genocide on the galaxy, although they did reseed it. Basically, through their own pride and hubris, they proved themselves unworthy of the mantle, and it took firing the halo array to understand that.

Wasn't the Chief infected by the flood in the first game but Cortana saved him by an electroshock. It killed the flood cells but it may have connected the chief to the flood. Explains why the Chief could hear the Gravemind, Cortana (while controlled/connected by the Gravemind), and the Didact who you said was captured by the flood.

He was on trial, before the first firing of all the arrays. Your explanation of him being made a pawn got me thinking about the last words he spoke. "Think of my actions as you will, but do not doubt the reality... the reclamation has already begun... *and we are hopeless to stop it.*" Perhaps weve been wrong the entire time... perhaps the reclamation is not about humanity gaining the mantle... I’ve been saying this forever, Cortana is setting up pens for the flood to feast upon when they come back. It only makes sense, she’s not working for the safety of the galaxy, she’s working to unify the galaxy under one army, that of the flood.

One note, a bit off topic, I noticed while re running halo 4 that the terminal on mantles approach on midnight Cortana actually interfaces somewhat with the domain but can’t access it fully. I personally believe this is the point where she entered, that maybe the rampant fragment got through. Could be talking out my arse but it was something I’d never noticed until just last week. Thoughts?

I always thought it would be really cool for Cortana / gravemind Communications or telepathy to happen when you were in the middle of a fight instead of in between fights walking through a path. Where Johnson and some Marines or the Arbiter and some Elites would have to hold the line while you recovered I just thought that would be cool

Ive alway been thinking of ways to explain what the floods end goal is and I've come up with you i think is a good idea but is lacking in some cases. The Flood is from the precursors ( corrupted but still from them) so what if they are only killing people but they are trying to reform themselves? Wait let me explain, the forerunners killed the precursors (so they thought) but some precursors turned into a fine powder in a defensive act to save themselves but what if they did this knowing they would eventually become the flood (who can take over living things or turn them into bio matter which would help in reforming the precursors (who were HUGE)) they are killing off everything just so they can reform themselves and the rest of the universe from scratch but this time without or a weaker version of the forerunners (Just an idea not a good one but i like to think theres a reason why the flood do what they do rather than 'oh if we kill that we get smarter')

Awesome video but i have a question. In the clip from Halo 4 you had in your video 6:57 - 7:20 we hear the speech about the Mantel shelters all, then at the end Cortana speaking to the crew of the Infinty said the same thing except switch the Forerunners with the Created. Was that Cortana or the Gravemind speaking. On something unrelated when Cortana is stopped and she realizes that she was a pawn of the Gravemind and it,the Gravemind, come to her and passes buy her without speaking or accknowledges her existence and someone, maybe Dr. Halsey reacts to this by saying, "Even the Devil itself wants nothing to do with you." How do you think Cortana would react to that.
