Well, there's one thing I know about Floor: COMMITMENT. She doesn't speak nor understand a single word of Spanish. She had to learn it fonetically in order to get the pronunciation right. But that was not enough for her. She definitely wanted to understand the lyrics, because Floor does not simply sing a song; she performs it.

Floor sang this after Henk Poort brought Rolf Sanchez to tears singing "Noelia" his late grandmother's favorite song. To see him so happy hearing Floor's rendition of his song is a testament to the joy she brings with her voice

The bigger thing that is missing here, is that FLOOR MADE THIS SONG HER OWN. The guy that was ecstatic on the middle couch was Rolf Sanchez. He wrote and sang the original. Listen to it, as it actually is a Reggaeton/Salsa song. Floor took it, slowed it down, and turned it into a latin rock ballad, like something you'd hear from Mana or Juanes. And as you already know, she did this for her Nightwish fans in South America; the day this song dropped, it hit #1 in Peru and top 10 in Argentina.

Floor was just on a Dutch radio show called "Muziekcafé", where she performed four songs with the Beste Zangers/Marcel Fisser band who she's on a solo tour with: "Nemo" (Nightwish), Storm In a Glass (Northward, Floor's Rock project with guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad), Bridal Passion (Northward) & "Winner" (Tim Akkerman/Beste Zangers). All four I'm sure you'd like a lot.

I think one thing that makes her so good in different languages, and something that really sets her apart from most other singers, is that she EMOTES in the secondary languages like a native speaker would. One of the hardest things to do in a different language than your own is to portray emotion and feeling accurately, and Floor does that in every language she sings in, even those she doesn’t actually speak or understand.

Thanks. Floor truly is vocal goddess !!! And in this Dutch show she could show to whole her country her ability. New Nightwish album comes out April 10th. In interview Floor made comment for one song. It took several weeks that she could sing it. Maybe we can say, it was more than difficult singing part, if Floor has difficulties with it! This way Floor said: "I had to practice, for sure. REALLY practice. And I really do like the result. It was a challenge. It was so complex that it’s not like “I’ve listened to it and yeah, I’ve got it” and then go from there. I really had to study it. I have to study the melody, I have to study where the words come in, and by the time when we got to the point when the first demos came in and we rehearsed together, I could sing it. As in it sounds okay. But I knew what the lyrics were about but I had no chance to put in the emotion yet. Now I could recite it, basically. When the drum recordings started and I was back home I went through everything for few weeks more. It was daily rehearsals of combining what I knew and felt the song was about to reciting the technical element of the singing of the words and the melodies to get them into singing and storytelling and feeling and transmitting the feeling, emotion and the story - if that makes sense. That was definitely THE challenge. Not that I didn’t understand what I was singing, but to combine everything into something that made it sound 1) easy and 2) comfortable and 3) with the right feeling behind it." I really respect Floor!!!

She didn’t learn it in a week but most likely over the course of several weeks probably months leading up to the the week in which they recorded these shows. IIRC, they record 8 shows in 4 days.

Yeah, when I first saw it I was wondering if she sounded good to Spanish speaking people as well. Wow. When Floor does something she does it right. The rolling R is something that's also in the Dutch language. So I think that wasn't the hard part for her.

Pushing 40 and still looking absolutely beautiful, Floor has it all. She turned a sunny salsa song into a raging thunderstorm. Other Floor performances from Beste Zangers may have touched me deeper, but this one is my favorite because it's just so damn enjoyable. And she doesn't even speak Spanish, she learned the song phonetically. And that look at the end, like she wants to devour me, so sexy and catty. I guess that's why they call them Cougars.

I love your reaction to this. So nice you can tell me how good Floor's spanish is in this song, because I don't understand a word. In the tv show though, the theme of the song was explained. Floor was singing this song for Rolf Sanchez, who is like Floor bigger outside the Netherlands than in his homecountry. Rolf wrote this song, but performs it toatlly different than you heard here. Que Se Siente is Original a salsa/regeaton song. You can see how much Rolf appreciates Floor's version of his song, making it also Floor's. Rolf Sanches is half Dominican and half Dutch. In his childhood he was brought up in the Dominican Republic, but lived since his highschool years in the Netherlands. Rolf had an eight week number 1 hit with his version of Que Se Siente in the Dominican Republic.

Great reaction and review especially from a Spanish speaking commentator. Proof that with Floor no matter the language, the song or the genre you EXPERIENCE her not merely hear her!!! As for her preparation, well this was for Rolf and all her Spanish speaking fans especially in South America where they are nuts for her, and Floor knows nothing but 100% total commitment to anything that she does. I have to say though that I really miss this program and the great interaction between the artists and the band.

Very nice reaction! I already had the feeling you would like it. I speak only a few words Spanish, but according to others she's done a good job. During watching I wondered which language she now speaks more in her daily life as a Dutch woman, married with a Swede and living there. I suspect it's a tie with Dutch, Swedish, and English.

'At work' she'll be speaking Finnish with the guys and on stage English to the audience. At home among people it will be foremost Swedish and some English since her hubby speaks English pretty fluently. To her little daughter and 'in the homeland' she speaks Dutch.

Yup. Just remember that Vilja Lied was the first time everyone but Tim Akkerman had heard Floor sing on the show. (Tim was on the tour circuit with one of Floor's earlier bands) Opening song to the series as well.

Great analysis again! Floor can sing also in finnish and speaks it a little too. The pronounciation isn't of course perfect but quite understandable. Speaking finnish is very difficult for native speakers of germanic language group (and everybody else too!). But we all must remember, that in the world there are like billions of singers, who sings in english but aren't native speakers. And nobody analyzes that.
