But yeah, I always say that solid art direction matters way more than pure horsepower and realism. The entire Zelda series (particularly Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword) are my go to examples, along with stuff like NMH and Okami.

Man, even after the DOA 6 disaster, I still want DOA to come back. DOA 4 was the first fighting game I ever saw played competitively as a preteen and it holds a special place in my heart.

It's a shame because MECHANICALLY DOA 6 is great, it just has HORRIBLE online and 0 support from Team Ninja atm. I hope for a resurgence with a DOA7. But I imagine it'll be quite a while off sadly.

I remember the first time playing this and the intro cutscene just completely messed with my mind. If there was one thing I was expecting from the DOA series, it was certainly _not_ Steven Tyler of Aerosmith shrieking "Dream on!" while a cutscene of Kasumi and Ayane in the rain was playing out on screen. You make an interesting point about the flatness of the series even in the sexy volley ball stuff, and I never played this series. They didn't go all in on it, the girls kinda have samebody sameface problem. If somehow a new DoA got made it needs to go insane, insane graphics, with you know, muscle flexing, more diverse body models, ahem proportions, new and improved sweat. They seem to be really competent games however.

I love this game, it was the first xbox game I played\owned. I played the s**t out of it. It was a fun fighter, looked gorgeous, a good sequel to DoA2 (which I owned on the Dreamcast), and I was a teenager at the time so....... jiggle physics.

I still have Dimensions for the 3DS (had it for about a decade now) and it's one of the few games for the DS family I own that occasionally works. It could just be that I'm too lazy to learn the basics and adjust to the controls but I just feel more at home with fighting games like MK. Hell, I went through the story of Dimensions mashing buttons. And I really have to watch the movie again. It's still on Tubi.

DOA Dimensions is both the best Fighting Game on the 3DS AND one of the best DOA games period imo. It's like DOA 3 with the roster and additions of DOA4. I'd still say 5 and 6 are the best in general, but that's #3 for me.

based on what I rememebr, the final boss, Omega, is Ayane's uncle/dad/master/something (who you actually see in the openng of DOA2, ordering Ayane to murder the FUCK out of Kasumi) who got captured by DOATEC, experimented on and transformed into a rampaging mruder monster armed with magic and evil. Ayane's ending is like the only one that acknowledge he exists, if memory serves.

My first DoA game was DoA 2: Hardcore... the hilarious english translation for the character dialog and the voice acting accompanying them had its charm Now the 3DS game... to this day, remains a stupidly fun experience alongside Tekken for the 3DS

I have it on the original xbox with a crt tv and the game looks great, sounds great and plays great. I just really enjoy playing stuff on the original hardware. I just wish the "story" mode would have had a little more continuity and hell even be a bit more challanging. Im no good at fighting games but most fights can be won by button mashing aside from the Omega fight which is just jank. Super fun to play against a friend in.

Most of my experience with the series comes from owning DoA5 on Steam, and a few sessions of 1 and 2 in emulators over the years. I'm surprised to see how many stages from 5 are actually from earlier games (from this video alone I could identify at least 3 and it's been quite a while since I last played it). Overall I like the series, it's a very fun button masher that can be complex if you take your time to learn it. If it ever makes a comeback, I hope they drop the silly excessive clothes DLC thing they have going on.

Personally I don't think dead or alive ever got the credit it deserved it pushed the Dreamcast to it's limits being the first fighting game to offer a true story mode and what it did for environments games like Tekken seem to being copying graphic wise I think each game was the best looking fighter of it's generation Doa2 was the best looking Dreamcast fighting game and Doa3 and Doa2 ultimate on Xbox could put some modern fighters to shame maybe what Doa needs after the doa6 backlash is a new series something like how snk does with kof

Dead or Alive has such great stages but DOA6 really dropped the ball with most of them being generic as hell. If DOA comes back as something that isn't scummy F2P or creepy voyeurism, it would need to be absolutely cool and need to stand the test of time. P.S. I feel it was still fine until Xtreme 3 came out with the controversy of "no localization becasue it's too lewd", after that lots of people who never played the fighting games bought Xtreme 3 or later downloaded Venus Vacation, and also they never played the fighting games after that.

Before they were seen as good to great fighting games with some fanservice, but afterwards they were only seen as the pervy games for creeps to ogle bouncing boobs. Just a heads-up if you wanna buy this. Unless you have friends that come over & play fighting games with you. SKIP THE FIRST THREE DOA GAMES. There is little to no offline single player content. DOA4 is when they started adding VS CPU mode. Which makes them good passtimes if you just wanna button mash with sexy ladies
