Former US-American track and field athlete Florence Griffith-Joyner is the world record holder in the women's Olympic 100 m and 200 m event. The world records she set at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul have never been broken. Griffith-Joyner did not only claim the two gold medals for the 100 m and 200 m, but also won Gold with the Team USA in the 4 x 100 m at Seoul 1988. The facts remain: no doping or cheating was ever found. In fact, none of the world record beating athletes coached by Bobby Kersee - FloJo, Gail Devers, Al Joyner, Jackie Joyner Kersee, now Sydney McLaughlin who just broke the 400m hurdles record the other day - ever tested positive for any doping or anything else illegal. They were just great athletes with great coaches who ran world-record times that have stood the test of time. Maybe this year’s group - Fraser Pryce, Sha’Carri Richardson, will finally break those records. And if they do, they will break them like FloJo made them - drug free and dominant.

Still until this day in any kind of conditions weather and people being caught on PED'S, running on faster tracks with better track shoes can beat her 100m or 200m times. We'll never get full proof but athletes in their late 20s do not improve by around 0.5s almost overnight and then almost as quickly retire (along with the massively noticeable physical and vocal changes). Even convicted dopers like Marion Jones couldn't get close to her times. That along with a number of other long standing world records (not just Flo-Jo's) are so untouchable that it stretches credulity way beyond breaking point. It won't be fair on some athletes but the proposal a couple of years back to reset world records only count those set from 2005 might be the only way to try and get credibility back.

The Seoul time was with an illegal wind (3 m/s), thus no record. The Indianapolis time was a fluke because of a malfunctioning wind gauge. The fastest two women of all time are Elaine Thompson (10.54 s) and SAFP (10.60 s), both in 2021. Up to that point Flojo held the real WR: 10.61 s.

@@lalib.53 Nobody believes that 10.49 was achieved under legal wind conditions. She was lucky the wind gauge malfunctioned. After that she never got a legal time below , even at the upcoming Olympic Games
