FLORES! This island is seriously amazing! The landscape it so dramatic and diverse and the people are so friendly.
To start this week off, we leave Kelimutu and drive up to the north coast to a small fishing town called Riung, where we meet Itchan from Cafe Del Mar who lets us park in his driveway for a few days while we explore the area. Just off the coast is the 17 Islands National Park, so we hired a boat and spent the day free diving.
Then, we drive to some hot springs just south of Bajawa, a lovely town in the mountains. The cool air of the mountains is always a refreshing change from the humid coast!
In this area (Ngada Region), there are a few traditional villages to visit. Not too far from the hot springs is one called Gurisina, which we visited on our way down to the coast.
Purisina Village is the youngest of the villages in the Ngada region, having moved here around 200 years ago.
After our visit to the village, we start making the drive to Labuan Bajo. On the way down to the coast we seen on the map a beach named “Secret Beach”, so of course we stopped by to have a look! Although not so secret as it’s on the map, we did have it all to ourselves!
After a long day driving, we reach Labuan Bajo just in time for an incredible sunset and find ourselves a spot to camp with a view overlooking the town and harbour.
There’s a lot of dive shops in town servicing Komodo National Park, one of the best places in the world to swim with Manta Rays. There is also some world class diving here.
Unfortunately, our SD card from the GoPro had a bit of a heart attack and we lost most of our diving footage. Thankfully, Mark was able to recover a little bit of footage (albeit jumpy), to show you. (Any excuse to get back out there again :P)
That’s all from us this week! We’d love to hear any travel tips for the rest of Indonesia! Feel free to leave us a comment :)
Thanks for watching!
