Thank you for the video, prior to 2015 I visited Sanibel and Cayo Costa at least once a year, my fiance' passed away 2015 so I'm not really able to travel any longer. I live in cold Kansas City and am not excited about traveling alone... I wanted to say that Cayo Costa reminded me of the old Gilligan's Island TV show... like a deserted island. I gathered several cockle seashells as large as cereal bowls and used them to serve shrimp cocktail during my sister's birthday party. They were just perfect! Collecting seashells was my favorite hobby for many years. They are all so unique and gorgeous.
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
What a fun idea - cockles can indeed make great bowls! It's ironic you thought the island was like Gilligan's Island. The tour was a "3-hour tour" and many other people mentioned the Gilligan reference too. Collecting seashells is good for the soul! Wandering around to the sound of the ocean, looking for beach treasures is the best. I thank you for taking the time to watch and to comment. I hope you choose to come along with me on future beach walks!

I was describing the topic of shark eyes vs false shark eye earlier this evening and here you are going over the exact same thing. We will be staying on Sanibel again for a week in August. I can’t wait!
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
It took me quite a while to really see the difference in those shark eyes. I needed to see a whole bunch of the shells before I could see that "dug out part" of the shell and finally had the "ah-ha" moment. Sanibel is August should be nice and sleepy still. You'll want to be in the water to find those shells and with the heat you'll probably want to be in the water anyway!
@janetknight99782 жыл бұрын
I am on the east coast and noticed a difference between 2 shark eyes. The differences in colour and shape are what I noticed. What I observed was that the false shark eyes are generally and the front of the false one protrudes more. I couldn't find an references to false shark eyes. Thanks for solving my mystery and affirming that I am not going crazy!

Too bad it wasnt the big daddy but you did find the light olive which is super pretty with that sheen on it. Wow and some nice nutmegs of unusual size. @@annjohnson543 Thats not my neck of the woods so unfortunately I can’t recommend any tours that way. The ones down here are around $50-$60 per person just in case that’s a little cheaper than the tours up there. I hope you have a wonderful at the beach with your granddaughters!

Hi Sharmon, Happy New Year my dear beach friend!! Wishing you an amazing year, with good health and great beach finds. Congratulations with your Golden Olive! It's gorgeous!🧡 And you've managed to find so many amazing shells in just 2 hours. That's not bad at all!! Imagine you could be there for 4 or 5 hours....... Then you definitely needed your sand dollar container (the sand dollar you found with the pattern is breathtaking!) and you would be able to "plant" your own olive garden 😂, you already found so many of them in 2 hours, imagine the amount in 4 hours..... Hope you have a wonderful week! Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona

I love driving over the Sanibel causeway also cause I know I’m literally in “Paradise” when on Sanibel🌴 Goodness that sand dollar did have a beautiful pattern! So many critters, I must admit the FFC are the cutest when they come out to say hi! Interesting information on the Moon-snails, I must go thru mine one of these days. How is the water temperature, usually it’s a bit chilly late January when I come down to visit so I only wade out a little bit lol Thank you for the beach time, a little snow on the ground and quite chilly up here in Ohio.
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go swimming per se, but the water temp is actually not that bad! I was in the water today (on accident - I'll be sharing that in an upcoming video) and it was only cold because of the wind. It's probably going to cool off a little more, but it should still be comfy enough to get the feet wet in pursuit of those shells!
@kims45292 жыл бұрын
Some extra fun finds: your golden olive, the beautiful patterned sand dollar and the medium sized horse conch! Sometime could you talk about how to identify living vs deceased barnacles? As for the slipper snail, I assume as long as they are clinging to another shell, they're still alive. Is that right? Thanks for sharing! I look forward to beach trips every Sunday night!
@SWFBeachLife2 жыл бұрын
The barnacles look like a volcano when vacant - just the outside ring will be there. If there's anything inside that ring, you know a barnacle is there. It might be dead, but since I don't know I always put them back just in case. And yes, if a slipper is stuck to another shell, it's alive! Thanks so much for coming along with me on my beach walks!

I feel really stupid in leaving my comment earlier about the cone shell. After watching 3/4 quarters of your video and hearing how well educated you are in regards to the shells, I commented way too early!! 🙄🙄🙄 so I hope I can make up for it by subscribing to your channel 🙂🙂🙂! I used to love collecting shells! I lived on the island of Guam for 5 years and wow talk about the shells! It was my favorite pastime, it was very relaxing, very hot, and very humid 😎!

We're all friends here, so please don't feel stupid! I will gladly accept your subscription 🤗 I can't even imagine how amazing it must have been to look for shells in Guam.
