Don’t think you’re going get any satisfaction from your insurance company because your governor has made it easier for them to flip you the bird and will drag it out in court since Governor Meatball gave them the benefit of not paying lawyer fees if they lose. What’s has this guy done for the homeowner….nothing.

Don't be depending on your state insurance coverage - an article I read less than 2 months ago in one of your Florida newspapers said that the state insurance program of last resort is in the RED, and I'm not talking about being a RED state. That means there isn't enough money paid into the state insurance program coffers to cover damages, period. And you haven't even gotten into the serious part of hurricane season for 2024. The damage done in this storm system wasn't a hurricane. Wake up and smell the coffee. You're not going to be protected under Republican "coverage" and for profit insurance corporations aren't going to cover you either, even if you could afford to pay them - which you can't. Folks who moved to Florida during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic are now trying to sell their homes because they, being originally from "northern" states - know what is going to happen. And they can't sell their homes for the prices they're asking for because new buyers are saying "We can't afford the insurance premiums." Something's going to have to give and it won't be the extremely rich who can afford to "self-insure."

Too bad the storm winds did not shred and carry off Matt Gaetz and Co. No one likes him but he will probably end up as Governor if Floridians do nothing to stop it. And then we will have someone at the top more into his personal brand and social media presence than governing. The stakes could not be higher with weather events like this in context of the imploding-exploding insurance. Best wishes to all.

Anyone that has or wants to live in and near Southern and Southeastern coasts need to realize that hurricanes and tornadoes are going to happen and your property is at risk of being damaged, that is why insurance is so expensive in these places. Some homes on the beaches are such huge insurance risks, they cant be insured because of their location. Also, planning a vacation in these places bear this in mind as hurricane season starts in June and can go through Oct tornadoes can happen year round. Coastal homes in these places may be less expensive than in NY or CA but the insurance definitely wont be and you have to have several types of insurance. I live 90 min from FL beaches for 67 years, visit frequently and have seen people build dream retirement homes or vacation rentals only to sell in 10 years or less, mostly because of the storms and rising costs. It is a predictable cycle.

Actually, we had NO warning. We were told it was a level 2 out of 5 risk. As a floridian for almost 40 years, we're used to severe thunderstorms. Hurricanes suck but they're just another thing. However, none of us were prepared for this. I would have never known a tornado was in my driveway had my son not woke us up screaming TORNADO!! I came close to losing my older two children who drove literally in it on their way to school because we had NO warning. We lost an innocent life during this storm. We're still without power, water, food, etc. My little community on the southwest side of Tallahassee is devastated and heartbroken. So, no, we're not being dramatic. We're thanking God we're still alive and working to get our lives back in working order!! Have a little more compassion and empathy!
