Join me on a Florida virtual beach walk as we walk the sands of Fort Myers Beach. This is during red tide, so there is a bit more carnage than usual, but despite the coughing, I had a great time.
Now the other couple I mentioned in the video, I asked them where they parked and they said on the side of the road and there wasn’t any no parking signs or anything….
I saw where they parked and it was literally in front of a no parking sign, next to fencing keeping people away from construction on a condo building. It just really bothers me that people are trying to rebuild their lives and others are parking willy, nilly, not being respectful of others. To each their own I suppose, but it really bothered me.

Hi! I’ve been a viewer of this channel for only a few months now, and I just wanted to let you know that you are what started my shelling hobby! Your videos bring me so much joy. It’s nice to feel like I’m out there looking for shells on the beach too, when I’m only at home in SC. Thank you for your educational and friendly content! :)

I laughed out loud at your "A" Florida cone!! That was really enjoyable how tickled you were by it! You're so much fun! Glad you are choosing to have such a positive attitude at the beach & not letting the red tide or jerky people overly affect you. Thank you for this beach walk & for caring about all the sea creatures. Plus your valued garbage patrol!

I agree, the teeny tiny shells make good jewelry, too !. I keep micro shells in $1.00 Clear plastic crafting storage boxes bc they tend to get lost amongst the bigger shells ( or get broken ). P.S. I also have seen some little sand dollars of another species, like a quarter and nickle size that fit inside such boxes from Dollar Tree or in fishing tackle supply at Walmart . Super Cute.

I agree with you about the people just parking wherever they want. That gets under my skin even in a parking lot when someone takes up two spots or parks in the lined off space next to a handicap space (that really gets me angry). It shows how little respect they have. Anyway...awesome finds as always and thank you for showing us all the progress on FMB.

so many treasures today. thanks for enduring red tide cough and showing us around fort myers beach and all the beautiful shells and creature friends. It's been a long time since i've been there, but i do recognize certain areas like the mangroves. I remember, what is now gone, the shell tree where people would hang a shell for whatever reason. Such a beautiful area and is still beautiful despite the devastation. I was just on the East coast Riviera/Singer island area and was blessed with an abundance of shell treasures, even an atlantic harry triton. The garbage washed up on the east coast was incredible. The balloons, ropes, bottles, shoes were sadly too abundant. I picked up so much and what I couldn't, like a plastic crate with rope that was so heavy, likely used as an anchor of sorts, i dragged it up high enough from the tide in hopes someone would be able to remove it from the beach. I was also at Venice beach and found a few treasures there and noticed red tide "debris". You came away with red cough, I came away with red tide rash on my shins. haha Walked too much in the water, but I was just so happy to finally be back on the beaches in Florida, I endured the itch. "see" you on your next beach walk.

Howdy, Beach Angel! So nice to see you saving all those little lives. You make me think of the starfish story, which I think I've told you before but will repeat for those who didn't see it. A man was walking along the shore and he saw a boy throwing small things in the waves. Intrigued, he approached the child and asked him what he was doing. The child picked up a starfish which had washed up on the beach and tossed it out beyond the surf. He looked up at the man and answered, "I'm throwing starfish back into the sea. There was a storm last night and they were washed up. The sun will kill them if they don't get back in the water" and the boy bent down to pick up another starfish. The man snorted in adult derision at the boy's actions. "You're wasting your time, my boy! Surely you don't think what you're doing will make any difference!" the man turned to walk on. "Well, sir, it sure made a difference to this one!" the child said, tossing the starfish into the water. So you, dear Beach Angel, are making a difference in the lives of the sea creatures you rescue. Maybe they are sick from the dreaded Red Tide, but they might recover in the sea. On the sand, in the hot sun, they would surely die. Good on you, girl! Oooh, pretty pretty, as a parrot I used to have liked to say, so many pretty shells! I didn't know that juvenile jewelboxes could be pink. They' re sure nice and as lovely as a sunrise. You've been finding some large nutmegs lately. I wonder if the storm caused the disturbance of the larger ones' habitat. Hmmm. Lovely fighting conchs. I wonder how old they have to be to develop their thick outer shells. So many questions fill my mind. What a beautiful pear whelk! The difference between them is quite amazing! Our little trash collecting Angel, good for you! Most people walk past it, so I'm really proud of you! Beach time, ahhhh. It does a lost mermaid's heart good to hear the voice of her home. Thanks for that! Ruddy turnstone try to time their annual migration trip to South America to coincide with the spawning of the horseshoe crabs on the Atlantic Coast. They fill up on the crabs' eggs before flying south for the winter. Oh, beautiful crown conch! How I would love to be there with you! That true tulip is beyond lovely! Now I didn't know that horse conchs were related to true tulips! Those angel wings are so wonderful! Would a mask help with the red tide cough, Angel? I was just thinking about it. Nice cockles to warm the cockles of the heart! I, too, like the zig zag arks! Pretty baby's ear, too! Big Sunday Venus clam, how nice! Maybe a freak wave deposited that shell pile, after all, we've all seen unusually high waves when we least expect them. With the horseshoe crabs, I've read that the females' upper carapace is a bit concave at the rear to allow the male to hold on to her shell when she is laying her eggs. I think this is your reward for helping the stranded sea creatures and cleaning the beach of trash. You've always wanted to find a golden olive and that's the closest I've seen you get to one, so...HURRAY! What a day you had! You got a whole shell collection, just today! I'm so glad that you had a good day, red tide notwithstanding! I'm looking forward to seeing your trip to Kice! Love from The Lost Mermaid

Yes, tip toeing around dead things afforded me MANY amazing beach treasures. And now with the island being in the throws of repairs, I pretty much get the entire beach to myself. Hello my Netherlands Beach Friend! I always look forward to hearing from you ❤️ Yes, that red tide can really be a bummer. I'm lucky that it really doesn't bother me all that much unless conditions are bad, but all the dead critters and fish was heartbreaking - especially after enduring the hurricane not so long ago. I was so curious about what would be there after red tide was gone I went back, so we'll get to see that after we do a Kice tour next Sunday 😃 I hope you are feeling well these days.

Hi Sharmon! What a great shell hunt this was. My personal favorites were the giant angel wing, the really spiky crown conch, the fighting conch that was mostly white and of course, I was going nuts over the beach bowl. By the way, I loved the little hermit crabs. I know it sounds a bit odd but I think crabs are cute, especially the feisty blue crabs you have out there. I did a painting of one. I do love our Dungeness crab out here in Washington. I would like to hold one if I can learn to do so without getting pinched. Have you ever had an encounter with a blue crab?
@SWFBeachLife

I have, but I think the only one I've picked up is the calico box crabs. I just grab them on the very back of their shell so they can't reach around and pinch me! 😃

Yes that was an awesome crown conch! Too bad it was alive...😢 There must have been something wrong with the bigger LW you didn't pick up with all the other stuff at 6 min.? You guys have the biggest top snails down there!😊 If I remember correctly the quahogs that have purple are the northern ones. Not nearly as common on the Gulf side. My goodness! That was the 3rd right-handed angel wing you just picked up! There goes my theory... Ok maybe you just showed the right-sided ones.😊 Gorgeous crown conch at 20 min! ❤️ Lol! I found the sibling of that little true tulip today! There weren't many people there at all. You really scored on the crown conchs! A really great day there I'd say. Can't wait for Kice!😊 BTW 2 ladies beat me to the north end today and one found a huge horse conch (in the water)!! Thanks, Sharmon!xxoo

Sharmin, thanks for your videos, I love and look forward to them every week. I have a request, any chance you can go north? I live south of Chicago and visit Anna Maria and Sarasota whenever I can , usually once a yr. but haven't been for a couple of years now. I'm hoping to move to Anna Maria and would love to see what you say about the shelling there. Thanks again🥰

@@SWFBeachLife Sharmon! I LOVED THE HONEYMOON ONE!!! the shells are amazing there!!! I think ( know) I’ve seen all of your stuff at least once. It’s because of you I can now identify most all. And thank you for the adventures! Also thank you for “ beach time”! I need it living so far from paradise. But have to say your Lido beach one was closest to Anna Maria. I learned what “ dredging “ is and I thank you for that. No biggie , any beach is good with me. And thanks for all of the clean up your doing. Your a BEACH ANGEL 😇 🌴❤️👍

Dear Sharmon, I haven't actually held one in a lot of years, but I would like to know more about the baby's ears shells. It seems to me they do not have two parts, so that makes them a gastropod. It looked like a relative of the Abalone. There is a thick, partial lip along half the aperature and the apex is off set and flattened, just like an abalone. I don't believe it is a moon snail. There is no umbilicus. Limpets are another of these flat, what I call "Frisbee" snails. L0L ! ---- Many Blessings from Missouri. 🥰🐚🐠

I do not believe the baby's ear can actually fit all the way back in its shell. I've found live ones - they are fascinating! And...they are members of the moon snail family. 😃

Always enjoy your FMB shelling. However there is NO place to park on the south end. You said in a recent video that you have a connection so you can park down there. Lucky you! I haven’t seen Flamingo open. And that’s still a looong walk to get to the south end. Someday I’ll figure out how to get to where you are in this video. 😁

You can take the trolley!!! it just occurred that one can either park at the Park and Ride on Pine Ridge Road, or park at the North end of FMB and take the trolley to the South end of the island. Flamingo Street is a great place to start your walk south!

There is plenty of parking on the North end of the island: kzbin.info/www/bejne/inOkn6qbmc6ZqNk The south end is the challenge, HOWEVER I just remembered the trolley. There is a trolley you can take to the south end. I'll have to look more into that so I can tell people where to get off.

As a teen, my Mom drove me to my Chiropractors' office. A couple houses down, we passed a house with a rock garden. In that rock garden were the two biggest King Helmet shells we'd EVER seen. We would always pass and salivate like two mad dogs !!!. L0L !. Oh, we knew the weather would slowly bleach and make them lose their shine, erroding them, etc. I rode past everyday on the new bus route. I saw them covered in snow, hail, heat....it made me quiver at the waste. Then they had the yard cleaned, and they..... pitched them !. I have a big CHALKY horse conch from a garden. UGH 🤯 ( dramatic ending).
