Best Places to Retire in Florida 2023

I truly think if you’re want to move anywhere in Florida think again. My homeowners insurance has tripled in one years time. Even with a 9 year roof , hurricane windows and doors, and AAA wind report. Now we can expect mandatory flood insurance requirements which is close to $700 and climbing. And now a warning by the insurance carriers to expect a hurricane tax on added to homeowners insurance. My auto insurance jumped $800 with no real reason except to say everything is going up. That’s just for one car, you will be killed if you have more the one. The governor has done nothing to stop the increase. His legislation has only hurt homeowners and reduced there claims when they are most needed. At least he should have targeted the contractors and lawyers who have been defrauding the insurance companies. He could have required the state agencies to verify roof claims and refer the fraudulent cases to FDLE . Set a special court to handle to cases and end this fraud. This is just my opinions of possibly solutions. The bottom line is if the governor did not see this coming he dropped the ball and we’re all paying for it. Plus keep in mind every business in Florida is getting there insurance rates tripled, so they pass the cost on to you. For example as simple nice restaurant , as simple breakfast was may $22.00 bucks for two. Now expect $40.00 to $50.00 that’s without a tip. Need less to say breakfast is now at home. Sure inflation is a factor but don’t forget the business are paying more in insurance costs. You may ask are you considering leaving the state.Of course I am , but that’s a tough decision when you’re over 65. The expression goes I’m not a young as I used to be to do that. So do the research and make the best financial decision for you. But remember these insurance costs are going up with no end in sight. Best of luck.

Indeed. It was (WAS) an affordable state. No longer so. It's a high risk state on both ends. And don't forget the mandated flood insurance for all homeowners (not just high risk coastal homes) carrying a mortgage. I'll add that the weather here is overrated (June through October).

I was thinking of retiring in Florida until now,and not just what’s going on with the homeowners insurance’s but the way your governor and state government is running your state, no way could I support that… come to Michigan, you have all your rights, all your freedoms, and we even have new gun safety laws passed…we have great lakes, and we have all four seasons! Come and visit by the way they just passed into law where your retirement will NOT be taxed, our governor gives a rip about people, she’s awesome.

Governor is no longer focusing on the state issues, he is allowing companies to rip people off Intentionally , it's a shame, only people to be able to afford to live in Florida will be the filthy rich. And I think this is Intentionally done so average and poor people slowly move out and just bring in the wealthy, all nicely planned out

Regarding The Villages, I think you missed the boat on that one. There is free music 365 days a year in all four (and expanding) town squares, over 3,000 clubs to join so absolutely something for everyone, bicycle clubs, pickle ball, softball, polo, tai chi, etc. if you are bored here it’s because you want to be. Over 100 pools and 60 gold courses.

Don't believe much if anything this guys is touting. Lived here for 10 years and the places he want you to move too, well not all that. Miami you will think you are in a third world country, and Fort Lauderdale is so expensive and trust me the traffic is beyond beyond. And this I speak with years of experience having escaped The People Republix of NY.

I live in Jupiter Florida and love it its expensive to but the fishing and boating options are excellent. I spend time in Brickell in Miami to the best of suburban and city life. I love Sarasota to its the only area i would enjoy living on the west coast . Thanks for the interesting and informative video

We have lived here for 20 years+. Amelia Island is the most Beautiful place in Florida! The people are amazing.. But due to Amelia being in the news over the past 5 years, homes have increased in value 20% Per Year! Amelia is Nature, Beach, Ocean, Marshes, Birds, Trees, small Town, Southern Culture.. we are NOT Naples, Tampa or Miami.

I lived in Sarasota for three years and hated it. It was one of the most socially hostile places I’ve experienced, comparable to Mississippi. Strangers insult you on the street, many of them retired Navy people, some even issuing vague threats like, "Don't say anything about the government!" In 2012, three Manatee County sheriff's deputies woke me at 3 a.m., banging on my door. They claimed they were looking for someone else, but it felt suspicious. I filed a complaint. I generally dislike living in the U.S. and travel abroad whenever I can. One of the major drawbacks here is the lack of accessible legal services. It’s almost impossible for me-and millions of others-to get a lawyer, regardless of the issue. Despite my parents being lawyers (one was even a Mississippi state judge), finding legal help has always been a long, frustrating process. Healthcare is another problem. It’s expensive, and around 20% of the doctors and healthcare workers I encounter are rude or hostile. Some push expensive medications when a generic would do, often motivated by greed or kickbacks. After serving as an EMT between high school and college, I left healthcare behind. The constant insults and endless retraining weren't worth it. Jingoism has been rising for the past 15 to 20 years, and I’m tired of hearing the Hollywood version of the military. The reality is far from what you see in the movies. I served in the Navy in the '70s, and it’s a miserable experience for most enlisted men. You're treated poorly, paid little (about minimum wage), and constantly subjected to verbal abuse. Life revolves around the military, and the strain is particularly hard on married men. The military treats enlisted men like prisoners, with strict punishments for those who try to leave early. Many start planning their exit just weeks after joining. Officers have better pay and conditions, but even they aren’t usually happy with military life. Another issue is the crooked behavior of American credit bureaus, which publish false reports and contribute to problems like homelessness. The numbers they assign-credit scores-are arbitrary and unreliable. On top of that, landlords often lie to credit bureaus and default on leases, leaving tenants with little recourse. -RB

Troy: While this video is blatantly commercial, it is a great trip around Florida. Way to go. I visit Florida every February and have traveled all over the state since my wife died in 2009. I love Sarasota, Amelia Island, and the other places you mentioned. The Villages, however, seems a little weird. I've been there twice, and it's not for me even though I', 76. If I were in the market, I would look at places south of Sarasota that are less expensive and less crowded yet still close to the Sarasota airport. Thoughts?

Any of those rich people in Naples need a summer house sitter,lol. Just got back from Miami, we stayed at, I think it was The Brickell and it was wonderful. Air bnb and it was only 149.00/night. 33 floor great view but I wouldn’t want to live there. Property is expensive. Talked to a doctor that bought a fixer upper for half a million.

Hi Troy , glad you spoke about Punta Gorda .I’ve been looking at the Deep Creek section and I think I really like it . We were in Port Charlotte at Thanksgiving ,we did get out on our friends boat , it was beautiful and fun . Did get to Fisherman’s Village a couple of times , and I fell in love with the area . I am looking forward , after the RV to heading south . I desperately want out of Ohio winters . Any info on the Deep Creek section would be greatly appreciated. T.J. Cincinnati.

My good friend lived in Punta Gorda when the monster Charlie came through. It left her home a pile of sticks. After living in a FEMA trailer for months, she got her insurance money, bought a truck, andclived happily ever after in Arizona. Though she loved Florida, she said it was horrifying and she could never go through that afain.

I live in St Augustine Florida for 10 years in the 80s and 90s what a wonderful place it was back then. It is way overpopulated very expensive not a great place to retire and I'm saying that from experience

Cape Coral/FTM is good if you want relatively affordable property and is a great launching point to access the rest of Florida. It is only 2 hours from Miami and Tampa and 3 hours to Orlando. The downside about the area is there really is not much city life. Downtown Fort Myers has picked up a little bit over the years and does have some action on the weekends. Other than that Fort Myers Cape Coral Naples area is dead cosmopolitan wise

Last place (besides California) I’d consider retiring in is Florida. Too expensive!! I’m in Houston now and will retire in Europe. Want to stay away from hurricanes and excessive heat - and keep daily and monthly expenses to a minimum. Walking, good food, public transit, cheaper healthcare, lower real estate taxes, and greater sense of community are all advantages of living in Europe vs. the USA.

If you can't afford something the solution is simple...don't buy it. Florida is expensive... the reason is that we have great weather, best beaches, great economy, Great State Government, amazing infrastucture, Nature is everywhere. South Florida Is traffic, crowds, and to many residents from the North East. the rest of Florida is amazing. That said, coastal Georgia is also Amazing.
