I need to keep watching these to get more ideas. Never worked on even weave but you have made it very clear in case I ever do. I can use thses start and end techniques right meow!!!

I've never used a waste knot before! I typically use loop start but if I have to tie off and start again, I have always used my non-needle hand to hold onto the tail and flip my Q-snap back and forth when anchoring the first few stitches. I have smacked myself in the face more times than I can remember. I will be trying waste knots tonight when I get some stitchy time! Thanks for the tips.

Great video! One trick I have found with starting a thread under a previously stitched area is once I run the thread under the few stitches (like you did on your coffee piece), is that I will take the needle and go up and then back under the last stitch closest to where I am starting my new stitch where it loops around it (hope this makes sense) as it will help anchor the floss even more and not really add any bulk. This is especially good when working with metallics or outlining with 1 strand of floss.

Thank you for this video! I’m actual going back and watching all your videos now as I start to pick up cross stitching again. It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve picked up a needle and only ever stitched on Aida and linen. I hated linen and am looking forward to trying lugana. My last piece I ever stitched was Mermaid of the Pearls on linen and that linen (and kreinik) is what made me give it all up! It’s a beautiful piece, but I was over it! Excited to get back in to stitching...so many new things!

When threading the floss for the loop method you can just thread the needle with the loop. In place of fighting to get both strands threaded on the needle. Much easier to thread the needle I promise you! So loop in the eye of the needle, not the double ends.

Good tutorial. Good choice of color for both floss and fabric. (And I love lugana too.) I do my stitches from upper left to lower right, then upper right to lower left, so it looks weird to me to see someone stitch like that. But kind of cool to watch a different way. I kind of think you could probably do a video of just the stitching and it would be soothing to watch, sort of like asmr or the Jackson Hole live stream. I've done variegated in both individual stitches and like normal (all one way, then all the way back). Doing the "wrong" way just makes it a more subtle effect to it, sort of a mottled look to it. I have a White Willow tribal butterfly with that and it looks just fine. I have another one, their tribal cat I'm doing in the variegated greens, that I started last weekend that I'm doing the individual stitches and it's much bolder. And I've been told if you go vertically with individual stitches instead of horizontally, you get a nice effect as well. I haven't had the chance to try that yet. Another thing that is also helpful with evenweave is railroading your stitches.I get lots better coverage when I do that. One thing I've found people need to be careful about with the loop start (and not just for the example mentioned with variegated) is that when you do the loop, the strand has two differently running grains to it. And depending on the quality of the floss, that could mean one strand might be weakened and possibly shred. If you tap the ends of the floss, the one that "blooms" more is the end to put in the needle. I always do that and keep them lined up, like how you did the variegated one. Looking forward to what you post next. :)

Ah fantastic! Thanks for posting this video, you've really helped a girl out! I found a small stitch kit in my stash (ufo) which was 27ct evenweave and I wasn't sure I was doing it right. The one strand stitches in the background look a bit sparse, and some of the stitches look uneven but I just needed a little bit of oomph to move me in the right direction!

Thanks again for the wonderful demo!! After watching your demo I realized I've been stitching the wrong way when I use the variegated thread. I was finishing each stitch as I went along, however, I was doing the loop method to start & I really did not see a lot of color change. I want you to know I tried your method this morning and WOW I could see a differences in the color change. Just had to let you know how your demo really helped my stitching. Thanks again.

First, thank you so much for all the instruction you give. Second, I have a favor to ask. It has to do with Stitching on the horizontal on 28 count luguana. If you have time I would like a visual of how it is done. I have just started a piece that I am using 28 counts lugana easy grid. And I am stumbling around in the dark. The piece has quite a few color changes in it and is 232 x 287. This is a piece that is pushing against my conform zone of only stitching on aida, a learning tool. However, before I get too far into this piece I want to make sure I am stitching it correctly. Thank you and I wish you and your family peace.

Love the video it helped a lot, never done even weave before and this new pattern is just that. One question is ( I'm no expert in fact very novice) following a pattern graph ? I have symbols all over the place which is the best way to work. If I change colours do I finish one colour fasten of and go to.next colour! Or do I leave the thread hanging below. Would be good to follow someone doing a graph 😻

Great detail however, you need to "finish" the stitches before you cut the thread ..go under 5 nearby stitches (or the ones you just made), otherwise, those X-stitches you just put in, can very easily loosen & become unstitched... & stitches are gone!!!

I have just started to stitch a pattern on Lugana 28ct., which I’ve never done before and my stitches feel very uneven and sloppy...not sure why? I’ve been stitching without a frame so I’m wondering if that may be why. What is the stitch mate you are talking about? Do you have a video on it? Thank you! I love all your videos!
@Stitcherista
@Stitcherista 6 жыл бұрын
Using a hoop or qsnap or scroll frame will make your stitches a bit more even. I do have a video on my stitchmate on my channel. If you go to my channel page and put in stitchmate in the search bar it should come up. Sadly, the designer of the stitchmate passed away so the stand is not made any longer.

Just starting on evenweave (love it). Do you worry about the starting place? Which hole, is it next to a up down thread or a left right thread? Does it really matter what hole you start in? Also how do you figure where to start? Do you measure in from the edges or find the center by folding the fabric? Thanks for the tutorial, it really helps tremendously. 👍🏻
@Stitcherista
@Stitcherista 7 жыл бұрын
Charlene Otting on evenweave I don't worry about what thread to start on, as the fabric is even. On linen it is different. Usually I will start in the middle, but I have started 2 or 3 inches in before from the top left corner.
@judystone3645
@judystone3645 7 жыл бұрын
Charlene Otting starting your thread by coming up next to a vertical thread that runs over (or on top of a horizontal one) will help in not having your thread disappear and going into your fabric. the vertical thread anchors it so you have a nice stitch. This helps in both even weave and linen fabrics.

It is but with variegated threads you usually complete each X as you go along.

It is a needlework stand that is no longer made, as the owner/creator passed away.

Thanks for the video. I always stitch on 14ct aida,but have been thinking of venturing on to different fabrics and have heard laguna would be a good one to start with.However i don't have an LNS anywhere near me,so can't see and feel what it looks like.So what do you think,would that be a good one for me to start with,i know i can order from joann at 123stitch,just not sure if it's what i should order or is there another fabric that would be better for someone like me?? Love your videos,some of them crack me up!! It seems you are doing well now with your health,sorry you had to join the BC club,but we are strong and we are overcomers.I just celebrated my 9 year cancerversary(bc also) hang in there,stay well,keep recording. Ps love the nails today..

Davis Kathi ordering from 123stitch is great. They have small cuts you can try out.

You can stitch any pattern on any fabric. If the model was stitched on evenweave, you can still stitch it on aida.
