They are very competitive at the college level with some crazy 5k times. I think women competitive times are around 15 minutes while men are around 12 minutes. Pretty crazy and fast.

The Arkansas Women would win the 2019 XC National Championship 3 days after this video was posted. In doing so, achieving the 2nd ever women's triple crown taking national titles in indoor, outdoor, and xc in one calendar year.

Same. When I first started track (Not XC) I would run 2-3 miles consecutively per practice and we only had one other person doing long distance for trac and he and I would run and it really improved my pace when I was first starting. (And my school doesn’t have XC so that’s the closest thing I can do.)

D T ?? Doesn’t everyone wear their own outfits? The only merch we bring during practices are our sweatshirt to warm up. I’m pretty sure no schools force their own athletes to wear merch during practices...

As crazy as the pace of these girls is, its incredible to think that its still slightly behind the record pace of a freaking marathon. Imagine running this fast for 42km... people are capable of some mind-bogglingly amazing things for real

Awesome. I wish my nieces would see this because it might inspire viewers who aren't already running to take up running. i ran cross country in New England (Rhode Island). Loved it. I hate the modern track and field because the tracks are so different. Rubbery, springy, energy returning etc. It makes a mockery of past track records where people ran on cinder, dirt, asphalt, etc

3 min 10 sec per km is an incredible pace. It is equivalent to a 2h 13m 37 secs marathon - a women's world record! I'm aware they're doing intervals and have 2 minutes rest between each km but it's still an awesome training performance.

Fabulous stuff. This is an evil pace. I wonder what the recovery time between kays is - 2 mins, 3 mins? My program has me doing doing 800m intervals at around 4:00 to 4:20 min pace (I'm 52) with 3 min breaks. I'm feeling very soft and wimpy now... :-)

samuel bostian got that right, I run in Arizona and during the summer it is literally the worst experience you could ask for. The sun truly blazes on those 110-120 degree days

Can someone tell me what the rest period was between 1000’s? I assumed 3 minutes, but then Lance mentioned the shorter rest intervals that the freshman were getting used to. These women obviously got it done last weekend. Congratulations.

it was 2 min jogging, which is insane. i mean im still in high school but when we have 1k intervals we generally have 3 minutes and its really hard to hold the pace even with that much. not to mention they are hitting these a whole lot faster than i can.

White Recycling Thanks for information on the rest interval. Just out of curiosity, how do you know this? It clearly makes the workout even more impressive. Just checked using a Daniels VDOT calculator and this would be an interval workout for around a 16:00 minute 5k runner, but given hills and grass, effort would be more. So two minute rest would be quite short.

@@WhiteRecycling Thanks so much for helping me on this. I totally missed that sub-heading. It seems like some college programs take good high school runners and make them great, while others take great high school runners and make them good. Arkansas' program is clearly doing something right.
