Floury Pumpkin Delights 🌱 Harvesting, Cooking, and Enjoying Sri Lankan Pumpkin Dishes with Family

In today's video, we're diving into the world of pumpkins with a fun and family-friendly harvest. I jumped at the chance to start reaping our pumpkin patch this season, especially knowing my father would be visiting. Despite only reaching two small patches in our yard, I managed to harvest nearly thirty to forty pumpkins! I brought a few home while the rest were sent to wholesale.
➡️ These bright yellow pumpkins are perfectly ripe with a floury pulp. I cut them into wedges and steamed them to create a delicious snack for teatime. I prepared a savory filling with boiled potatoes, fish, and spices, wrapped it in a dough made from pumpkin puree, and used a special trick to shape them like little pumpkins. With some leftover steamed pumpkins, I decided to make a dessert instead of letting them go to waste. I combined condensed milk, pumpkin, eggs, and spices like cardamom and nutmeg to create a fragrant pumpkin pudding, perfect for a divine lunch treat.
When my father and Uncle Sumith came over for tea, they enjoyed the pumpkin fish buns with a piece of jaggery, sharing jokes and laughter. While everyone loves boiled pumpkin with fried dried chilies, katta sambol, and coconut, my brother isn’t a fan. We packed some of this delightful meal for Kalu Mama, who joined us on our journey.
➡️ For lunch, I prepared dried fish fry, Gotukola sambol with papadam, boiled eggs, and a savory pumpkin curry. My father loves tasting freshly made pumpkin curry, so I made sure to cook it last. After a hearty meal, it was time for dessert. Everyone gathered to relish the luscious pumpkin pudding, including our loyal dog, Moya, making the moment even more special. In Sri Lanka pumpkin is not a versatile vegetable. But in the USA and Canada and even Italy it is used for so many things. I'm Sri Lankan and I always have been using pumpkin to make cakes, breads, rolls, pasta, cookies, browni, desserts, etc etc. This girl must have seen some overseas channels and is copying those. Otherwise in Sri Lankan village these are not at all.common.

Such a lovely pumpkin harvest! Everything looks so very good and tasty! Everything from the pumpkin dumplings to the parfeit, it looks wonderful! Our electricity has been "iffy" this year, sometimes we cannot use our stove; I love the tabletop burner (AND the wood oven!) Tea with jaggery, a perfect compliment. (California, USA) You live in SUCH a beautiful place!
