I have a friend who is an Orinthologist who said you know your yard is a healthy ecosystem if you hear birds. You must be doing something right Jim because your videos are full of birdsong and it's so heartwarming!

And just like that I’m ready for spring. 🌸 Maybe after a pleasant autumn we can skip right to March.

I treat my tulips as annuals. I don't mind spending money on them yearly. I enjoy their presence so much.

So a few weeks ago a the Walmart manager gave me $300 worth of so many beautiful bulbs for just a few bucks since he marked each down to $.10 and was trying to get rid of them for some reason. So I have a fridge full of bulbs. Christmas came early. I can’t wait to get them planted. Woohoo happy growing! 😅❤

Woohoo! Love a good clearance rack score! Not a bulb, but I just snagged a Hollywood juniper that's taller than I am for like 85% off.

I always get excited when my bulbs arrive in November. The anticipation of watching for them in the late winter and early spring is so much fun.

I've given up planting tulips and crocuses for now too (except for a few that I dug up that I'll try to chill protected in the garage or fridge and will plant in containers in the spring if successful) due to squirrel/rabbit madness. This year I've bought or ordered: Summer Snowflake, Spanish Bluebells, Windflowers, Muscari, Double Snowdrops, Thalia daffodils, and another daffodil variety called Mallee.

I put out the original poets daffodil last fall and it was So beautiful. I hope they come back next year. It may be my new favorite bulb.
@Ibis333 Жыл бұрын
I put them in a spot last fall too. I only got foliage, no flowers, so I'm hoping they'll come back this year with blooms. I had a spectacular show this spring with Exotic Emperor tulips and Pipit daffodils (the latter shipped by mistake when I ordered some Thalia daffs two years ago).
@dia9491 Жыл бұрын
@@Ibis333 the majority of the 100 bulbs we planted last fall never came up. I expected that. I hope your poets daffodil blooms next year. They smell so good and looks so beautiful.
@Ibis333 Жыл бұрын
@@dia9491 Oh I hope so! I put them in a fairly prominent spot at the end of the walkway near the front door so it was especially disappointing to see only strappy grass like leaves for weeks (it was a cool spring and I left them up as long as possible to give them the best chance of blooming next year).

I have a number of pending gardening bulb orders. I'm getting into some new ones I've never tried before like Crown Imperial Frittilaria. They're such a welcome sign coming out of the dreary depths of winter.

When would be the best time to dig and transplant daffodils in zone 8a, central AL? There is a large swath in my parents yard that I would love to have in my yard as well.

I have a three year old White Wedding Hydrangea that bloomed well and the blooms are now changing to its Fall color. But now, I noticed it is 1:34 blooming again but with more of a lace cap type blossom. It’s so strange. Explanation and advice. TIA. 7b North Alabama.

My 19 year old Cornus Kousa is really struggling in a western exposure yard. This years’ heat really did it in. Perhaps it had something already wrong with it but was still beautiful last summer. It has no protection from Sun. Could u suggest a small tree whose roots aren’t too extensive (leach field) that would work here? Thank you. Kathy

New gardener. Starting to plan some tree planting. Now I’m getting stuck on what to plant under the trees. I seem to be attracted to deciduous trees… now, do I plant “shade” plants under the trees??? I’m so confused. What type of plants thrive under deciduous trees? Thank you! California Zone 9b
