That’s how they started off but Diana became the hit maker at the time with her unique voice and added layer to the groups vocals. Things happen for a reason sometimes.

@@IamRocque there was frankly nothing "unique" about Diana's voice. That was simply an internal decision to make her the focal point, rather than showcasing the talents of all three. Diana was probably the LEAST unique vocally, but she had the most "pop" voice.

@@careyconley4690 Diana Ross and Jean Terrell had two of the most UNIQUE voices in pop music history. Florence had a great voice, but more commonplace, not a unique voice. If Florence was the lead, the Supremes would have sounded a lot like most other female groups at the time.

Its very rare that a lead singer can leave a group and the group still be great. I love the Diana Ross years as well. When music was changing and the group changed in 70, the transformation just worked! I wish that a Supremes movie or series was put together before they passed.

Mary's voice always sounds good on they're tracks. It would have been nice if Motown utilized her vocals more in the songs. It has always annoyed me when groups don't use the other members talents optimally. The Pointer Sisters did a very good job of that and even The Spice Girls of all groups.

I remember in Jr. High School dancing to this tune at rallies etc. it was 1972. Wow so many years have gone by, it seems like yesterday. They sounded good, it was cheerful song, Mary was one of the leads, it wasn't something that was permitted often but after Diana left she began to have some freedoms, that did not last too long.

Poor Mary Wilson, she's still trying to get her solo career off the ground 50 yrs 1970-2020 after Miss Ross left the group and have a top 10 solo hit record without having to depend on Diana Ross.

I never knew Marry could sing, why were they letting Ross lead all the songs when she could sing too, she was pretty and fabulous. They were handling that song they had the best of times, it is sad when people get older and they leave this world too soon.
