The track is called zircon hourglass released in 2005/06 and for those that say that the helicopter can't do 180 mph your right, so how can the boat do that when the speedboat is doing 180 mph the chopper is hovering in one place and the shot is towards and from that spot and when the chopper is keeping up with the boat it's on reduced power look at the roster tail and the bow it's not that far out of the water the spray is coming from the bow not the stern of the boat.

hey guys for clarification on the video dialogue: 1) this chopper maxed out at about 130mph- it was a Bell Jet Ranger. The chopper did NOT follow the Statement when it hit 180 mph- because clearly we could not keep up. I was there, my crew shot this episode the boat did 180 trust me...but not with chopper following at time, Enough said hope we cleared the air on that. Producer, Stu Jones

@Patriot Jefferson Afaik no one was hurt but I had no info about that, just that the boat was destroyed. The MISS GEICO raceboat was destroyed in 2012 when a fuel line broke in the engine bay during a test run. Both men got off the boat w/o injury.

Turbine Marine builds a Lycoming turbine engine that makes 1850hp with a bump up to 2000hp. Two of those should make this boat run around 200mph. If that's not fast enough for you, they can build T-55 Lycoming turbines that make 2750hp with a bump to 3000hp which would be a 220-225mph boat. These are military helicopter engines that have been completely rebuilt to flight specs. There are some differences due to being put in a marine environment but they're basically the same ultra-reliable engines that choppers use.

We have races in the States in 5'-7' seas, sometimes more off Key West and the New Jersey coast. The builders are former racers themselves so they build their pleasureboats to the same specs they raced with. This boat will run 80-100 in 5-7s.

I have no doubt the boat can run 180. Some choppers can too and that one may be one of them. The FPC has a lot of fast boats so you need a faster bird to keep up with them.

The boat can do 180, but in this video it was only a little Robinson R44 chopper doing the chasing...so the boat didn't go that fast :) I don't think the Robinson can manage 100...

In races two people are required. In the smaller boat classes one can drive and throttle with the other navigating. In the bigger boat classes there has to be a driver and throttleman. As fast as it is, this is a pleasureboat so the owner will likely do most of the driving and throttling.

Turbines can use almost any fuel so in that sense the boat is 'green'. They are probably using a mixture of JetA fuel and something else, maybe gasoline. The downsides to turbines are 1) they use about 10% more fuel than comparable gasoline engines and 2) they use as much fuel at idle speeds as full throttle. Upsides are 1) they are practically indestructible 2) two oil changes a years is about all they require 3) they can run for thousands of hours before major maintenance.

@WhiteKestrell No. STATEMENT runs 1450hp Lycoming T53-L13 turbines from Turbine Marine in Florida. Miss GEICO is a raceboat running 1800hp Lycoming T53-L703 Turbines from Whispering Turbines in Montana. Not sure what the MSRP is for that boat but it's well over $1M.

Felice...I'm not an expert on the subject of this boat, but I can come close. These engines would probably each burn 80-100 gph at WOT..If the boat had 400 gallons that would put run-time just over two hours on 400 gallons, at 170 mph in perfectly flat seas.. There's been no speed runs of this magnitude but to be able to cover 350 miles in two hours would be pretty insane, but do-able!!

The only way that works...put fast boats together in one direction...and let them go. As long as there are no turns in the course, it works out great!

As for draft it's hydroplaning; the only thing in the water is the prop and rudder.maybe a centerboard if it has one to improve high speed handling once out of the water. 180 MPH is no day in the park. There are a lot of figures and calculations to consider. The Cat haul design is for high speed minimal turn performance where as the V haul is for lower speed sharp turns. What's your cup of tea? Speed boats are just as different as cruse ships and ski boats.
