Fluffy Homemade Dinner Rolls

Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110-115°F
2 1/4 teaspoons instant or active dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 large egg, beaten
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable spray for greasing
Bake the rolls at 350°F until they color lightly -- 15-20 minutes

I have been looking for a roll recipe and it was solely based on the inside finished structure. I was looking for a roll my mother baked for many years and all 7 of us girls hunted through our mothers recipes and none of us had that recipe. It's important to know that salt kills yeast, so always mix it in well with the flour, not onto the wet ingredients 😊

1st 🙂Thanks to the cook for sharing your recipe! 🙄 Okay, people need to understand the difference between tips, known corrections, and putting someone's recipe down. Years of cook's experimenting and communicating are what make great recipes! 🙂 As a bread baker for over 55 years, 100% agree with your comment about needing to mix your salt into the dry ingredients! 🙂 Those who disagree should make their recipe trying both applications, and then you'll really tell the difference between your rise, texture, and taste, with no need for salting the tops. Adding my own caring tip to yours on this recipe... If you'd like to add salt to your cooked tops, brush on some melted salted butter, it will then stick and give a nice finished look. Most bread doughs are fairly forgiving (especially bun), so don't be afraid to pinch pieces off dough and reform them more evenly. Its important to make your dough balls the same size because this makes a major difference in your rise and for being all evenly cooked. If you do end up with some smaller ones, make sure to go by the larger ones for doneness. It may not seem like a big deal to eat under cooked bread dough, but it can make you quite sick and, most of all, not as enjoyable.

Sorry but that is a lie. I taught kitchen chemistry to children. In one bowl we place a tablespoon of salt with yeast and water. A second with a tablespoon of sugar and water with the yeast. We left them for an hour and both bowls produced the same amount of foam. No salt does not kill yeast. If that were so the proofing of any recipe with salt would never rise.

My mom would make these,along with alot of other amazing breads! She didn't have the time to teach me the technique of the kneeding concept & what to look for. I watched a million times, but never felt the doh myself. I was her prep cook. There were 6 of us,me being the eldest,spent alot of time cleaning in the kitchen. I think I will attempt to make these! Kevin, thank you for sharing this recipe. I make rolls every 3 to 4 days. My health requires I eat a lot of bread and I prefer my bread in the form of soft rolls (lucky me I have a carb tooth). The recipe I currently use is similar to your recipe but has a lot more sugar. I want to reduce the sugar in my diet, so I'm glad to try this recipe. I do like to proof my yeast first, so I will continue to do it my way in that regard, but I will try the rest of your process. You do a great job showing and telling. Appreciate the tips, like how to stretch the dough to make sure its been kneaded enough.

Kevin, I've used a small paint brush when making barbecued ribs. Granted, the barbecue sauce is thicker than melted butter, but the paint brush does work well. Loved the recipe and video!
