Final Fantasy XIV. Mashayoshi Soken is an absolute genius. For those who have played through the story of the game, there are single lines or runs that can bring them to tears EVERY time. I recommend checking out "Flow" or "Tomorrow & Tomorrow" to begin with, since they're more traditional songs where you can really hear the instrumentation. FF16 also has some great uplifting and heroic music as well, same composer.

@@tim_tator Doubling up here. Every HALO games' soundtrack has such a grip on my soul that just hearing the intro to almost any track from any of the games is enough to give me chills across my whole body, and bring out tears of joy and memory.

This is so hard because there are so many choices. Majora's Mask (and Zelda in general) and Mario Galaxy (and Mario in general) are top tier. But the Kingdom Hearts series might take it for me. I went to see the official orchestra perform the soundtrack right before covid, and while I loved the music before, it was really an unforgettable experience. No games' soundtrack has ever hit me in quite the way KH has. Especially Roxas' theme.

the sweeping french horn bits throughout make me tear up every single time. i was a french horn player throughout middle & high school. HUGE respect for people who play professionally. i personally don't have the facial build for it, but HUGE respect. y'all are responsible for the parts of soundtracks that make me absolutely SOB. ❤

The transitions are awesome in this. What I love most is how every instrument helps to create a story in our minds and that is the good stuff!

I love when soundtracks weave the main theme’s motif into other tracks. Man, I miss when video game franchises reinterpreted their main theme in every new installment. Final Fantasy is one of the few that still does it.

A very delightful and insightful analysis. I'm still playing BG3 and I think I'll be hearing the music more than I previously did. Thank you for improving an already incredible game. As far as paying attention to game music, it really depends on the game and music. For FPS games, the music really adds to the drive and feel, while in games like BG3 music often fades into the background. It really has to be amazing music to pull some of the focus from the visual elements to the aural elements. It does happen happen when the music is either amazing or has been integrated into the game as an active element. I'm curious, what do you think are your top 5 or so games?

Well…where do I start? I am a huge horror game fan so a majority of games will be in that genre. My all time favorite series (with some exceptions) is the Silent Hill series. I’m a big fan of part 2. After that, I would say my second favorite is the Resident Evil series with part 2 being my favorite. I do find myself going back to an old game series called Clock Tower. The graphics aren’t beautiful, but the jump-scares are too good. I used to play Dead by Daylight a lot, but I don’t play anymore. This might be slightly embarrassing, but I think last would be The Sims (in any form). I love to build houses vs actually make my sims live a life. …but I am open to playing basically anything. Name it and I have probably played it. Lol

@@NittPicc My whole family wore LED symbols over our heads and spoke Simlish for Halloween, so I'm not going to knock anyone for a love of the Sims. :) Given that horror games often rely on music and sound to enhance the playing experience, was that the case for your top games? I've played some zombie FPS games and they leaned /hard/ on sound and music to both tell you that something is about to happen, as well as increase tension. None of them had the kind of memorable soundtrack that BG3 has however. I fell like the horror games I know haven't put as much effort into the music.

Do you think you can do a part 2 of undertale music? I love the reactions of them, maybe the song “Undertale” from undertale would be good or “megalovania” but a shorter one is “fallen down reprise”

Hi, just discovered your channel on the Jinjer reaction, I really REALLY enjoyed your synopsis and break down and overall thoughts on music, but I wanted to leave this on your latest reaction. Though my calling in life ended up being in the Fire/EMS service, I started playing guitar at a young age, was in a college band, worked part time as an asst. sound engineer and pretty much played or produced music my entire life in some capacity. I prefaced that because I see you haven't reacted to any Ren yet. I am in no way affiliated him, I'm just telling you from one lover of all things music to another, you really need to check him out if you haven't already, and that's why there's no reactions, because you already know...lol. In my 50 some odd years on this Earth, I have never seen someone with so much raw musical talent that just oozes from every pore of his body. He's genre-less, he can do it all, self taught, multi-instrumentalist, but you'd think he has years of classical training. He's an independent youtube artist who's one of, if not the first, artist to really embrace the reaction community, and has been very involved and appreciative of them as well, and he has a crazy and inspiring back story that I won't go into since I've prattled on enough. His catalog is deep, and though you'll get a lot of suggestions on which ones to do in what order from his growing rabid fans, called the RENegades, there is no need to, explore as you see fit, with the lone exception of your first one, which most people start with, "Hi Ren". It is the song released a little over a year ago that shot him into the limelight, and is a great jumping off point as it deals a little bit with his back story. Again, sorry this is so long, I rarely commented on videos before I discovered Ren, but when I see someone such as yourself, with a true passion for music, I like to pay the gift of music forward, because I promise you, you've never seen an artist like this, he's truly a gift. ✌💚

Heres my interpretation of each themes. First section: That deep impending doom theme represents the main plot of the game. The mind flayer parasites and how big this is all is. But when that Harp kicks in thats your introduction thats the main players intro its your destiny thats why it feels so hopeful its that "But theres a hero" moment. It represents you and sets up your journey. 2nd section: Represents the battles you will face represents how strong you will become over time. How you must be strong ,fast ,smart ,charismatic, tough and wise to survive on your journey. It says that it will not be easy. You will fall but you must get back up. 3rd section: Represents the RPG aspect of the game i represents your interactions with your followers, friends, and allies. Its why its playful and it feels like the perfect music if you played it at a festival. Its you romancing whom you want and you growing and building relations with your group. Its that "But your not alone" moment.

I have a very similar interpretation and totally agree with what you just said. For me, each part is an act.(minor spoilers ahead) The 1st part is the first act and the introdoction to the problem, the hopes that Come along and the calmness of the camp after the fights. The 2nd part is the second act, it starts dramatically, in a land almost destructed by a curse, so there is those chorals making you feel antsy, then the music turns hopeful once again as you find a way through, new allies and relationships. And I think the 3rd part really emphasises the city, the flutes and melody that could be used in festivals or taverns, tells the finalization of the story, all you have been through coming into fruitions, the romances, allies and the finale of each story.

I am still sad he didn't win at the GOTY awards. But personally I feel the music in the game is a mixed bag. A few pieces are too cliche and cheesy for me, a few are good but not outstanding, and then a few are absolute masterpieces that haunt me ever since, like the Nightsong piece, thought the gravity and visuals of the scene may be to blame in part. I am not even sure one can experience the incredible weight of that song without having played the game and having experienced Shadowheart's suffering and fanaticism up to that point.
