The film footage of Carl Goldberg flying his Zipper model airplane was originally shot on 8 mm color film in February, 1941, in Bakersfield, California, by Edward Kapitanoff, then President of Comet Western Model Airplane Co. and Exclusive Distributor for Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. of Chicago

Looks like the Gas Bird (Diamond Zipper) of 1938, the Zipper came out the next year and had a rounded fuselage instead of diamond cross section. The clip of Goldberg launching a yellow plane is the Zipper.

Undercambered airfoils and polyhedral wings were common at the time. Gas engines were the new thing. They were very powerful, made the planes climb very fast and made the planes hard to control. Controlling flight in steep climbs was unfamiliar. The innovation of the Zipper was the pylon. The pylon controls spiral dive in steep climbs, which was a common cause of spectacular crashes.
