The Thredbo River. My favorite river of all time. Since 1990 I've fished it, swam in it, walked up as far as I could to the source of it. It's just my happy place and if I ever need a pep up or solace this is where I head.

Thanks for another great vid Steve. It’s such a stunning river, albeit really slippery in places. Those watermelon sized boulders can be nasty! See you soon. R

Thanks Rob! Yeah it can be a challenge to wade for sure… :)

Thredbo river was my first real foray into chasing trout and it produced for me. Thanks for the video brought back some good memories.

Thanks Pete! Yeah it’s special for me too for the same reasons. :)

There must be a bunch of us out there in the same boat . I first learnt to fly fish here when I was 13 years old and we camped at the diggings . In those days there was no ski tube and basic tracks along the river. I try to go back there every year and no matter where I fish it’s hard to find a river as beautiful as this one. It really does have zen like qualities. Great video to remind me to get back there again soon.

A lovely piece Steve, well done. I've always thought that the rainbows in that river are amongst the most gorgeously coloured that you will find. Strong, almost orange flash along the flanks and a golden hue along the sides and underbelly. Very pretty. Hope you're doing well.
@PeachyFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Ah, thanks mate! Yes they are gorgeous fish in there, was a nice mix of browns and rainbows too. I was too high up for the spawning fish, they had a late run of rainbows lower down in the river, but the ones I found were very pleasing....All good here thanks, hope you're doing well too! :)

AH sorry for some reason I only just saw the question about the net, it's made by a company called Mclean, it's called the Mclean Angling Spring Folding Weigh Net. Hope that helps! :)

Brilliant! Such great memories for many over the years, and still a fantastic fishery! Have to say I’ve found surprising good fish in shallow fast pocket water early in the season, particularly if the stretch is long and sun exposed…all about water temperature as they say! Thanks for sharing!

@@PeachyFlyFishing all good. Btw, thanks for the heads up 🆙 on the supurb xp a while back. Obviously pretty nerve wracking buying $$ rods without casting them. Haven’t put it away this season so far…what a joy to use! Your take on it is spot on!

@anthonyclark6118 ah that’s great mate! Yeah it’s a great rod!

@@PeachyFlyFishing I’ve thrown a lot of different methods at it. Does it all very very well. Would say both contact and dry fly it struggles with accuracy at longer distances. But at shorter range…second to none !

Seriously Steven, you have taken your video production to the next level - the audio quality, in particular, is incredible - this is a video that I could watch multiple times, and learn something new on every view - have always struggled with the Thredbo - so beautiful, so clear, and such discerning trout - have just invested in my first Contact Nymphing rod (an R.L. Winston Super 10 3wt) so I may need to get some lessons from you 🙏 - Rob Louis
@PeachyFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob! Yep euronymphing is deadly on the Thredbo, it can be a difficult river as it's very clear and gets a fair amount of pressure. Would be happy to take you out nymphing some time and show you the ropes, no problem. Nice to see in your recent video that you met Nathan and Rebecca too, they are both mates from the competition scene, very good anglers. I'll be down in Tassie for 3 weeks or so, maybe catch up for a fish when I get back in December. :)

Absolutely, image quality & stabilization is amazing, and they don’t usually freeze up like the newer GoPro’s do.

Gday there, awesome video. Also wanted to ask, have you ever come across Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout in the Thredbo river? Have heard of some good sized ones in there.
@PeachyFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I haven’t come across salmon and brookies in the river, but I have caught them in the dam at Jindabyne. The salmon generally are a bit skinny and out of condition and mainly small, but there are some large ones in there. The brookies I’ve caught have generally been smallish too, cool fish though! I think the best place to get brookies is up at 3 mile dam though, plenty of them in there. :)

Hi Steve, really nice vid. I’m learning a lot from your channel. Just one question, what are you using to hold your rod on your hip when you change flies?
@PeachyFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Ah excellent, thanks Pat! The rod holder is called an o’pros third hand, I’ll post a link: bwcflies.com.au/product/opros-3rd-hand-rod-holder/

Heya Peachy! Is there a good general purpose 8wt floating fly line that isn’t over $100 in Australia? How much difference does expensive line vs cheap make? I’ve got a cheap MaxCatch 8Wt that I’m mainly using for carp but would like to try for a cod at some point.
@PeachyFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Gday! Hey I’m not really sure about lines less than $100, there probably are some but I’m not familiar with them so can’t really offer any advice…these days I use the Rio lines which are excellent, the new coatings are great and the tapers just work really well for me. Sorry I can’t offer any more useful advice! :)
