I'm in Montana and love fishing mouse patterns in the fall (late September to now) for big browns. I tried it years back ; we get a high-water flood season that leaves log debris "jams" on many of our rivers and it makes for prime conditions for large flies and larger than average fish

Check my post above yours. Mouse patterns from 30 years ago where the big thing for giant browns at night. There's a book published about it. Nightfishing for trout. The pusher paterns where tied in Butte, I've used them all over, got an 7 lber out of the big hole. 1am total dark. Thought it was a beaver that I hooked

Awesome video! Try the side-by-side wiggle as you swing. Absolutely deadly here in BC.

Been waiting years for this one! Hands down my fav way to fish for trout and while it’s unlikely I’ll ever make it down there, chucking mice in NZ has always been a dream of mine. Been following along watching for a long time and always hoped we’d get a mouse mission so I’m pumped for this one! Haha cheers from Ohio 🍻

Pretty cool when a freshwater fish readily eats some mammals! My buddy caught a monster rainbow last year in a local Wyoming reservoir that had 3 mice in its digestive tract!

Gotta try those big pools at night! Summertime,Talking the big rivers in Montana, Clarks fork, Flathead especially around Enis..20 -30 years ago we used to fish big "pusher" flys and mouse paterns with a super slow twitch retrieve across those big swimming hole type areas, especially attractive where tree roots and deep cover are present. The big browns turn totally predatory, like larger food sources and ignore hatches and day time activities. Wall hangers!

I mostly nymph, but the last couple of years I started using some streamers. I'm hooked ( ;-) ). I spend 5 months a year by the West Fork of the Madison. A lot of the water there is pretty fast and choppy. Would you fish mouse flies there, or would you only do it further downstream? Also, do you have any favorite mouse patterns? Thanks.

Hmm i am no expert but i would try a bit darker mouse and fish it more aggressively also across the river and downstream. A mouse doesent float down the river but try to cross it. Dont know if u care but atleast i tried:)
