Top shelf Andrew, captured the mighty T and what is great about the place, people and flyfishing.

I love watching your fishing videos and I'm not even a die hard fly fisherman. Your videos are some of the best and definitely have consistently the biggest trout. Every time I watch one of your videos it makes me want to jump on a plane and head for NZ. That's saying something for a guy that lives in the heart of some of Montana's best trout fishing.
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Huntzz21, I guess it's hitting the mark the, sharing with others round the world and showcasing what we have here, those fish are actually average even bordering on small, we are very lucky here in regards to fish size and condition. Montana... yes, one day I would love to travel to Montana!
@huntzz217 жыл бұрын
Well if you ever do get serious about Montana I can certainly get you all lined out for a great trip guided or unguided. I am not a guide and rarely ever use one...well because, I don't need one most of the time unless it's water I can't access without one. However I do have some good friends that are top notch guides. Montana is a fantastic state to fish, only superseded by Alaska in my opinion. However I think New Zealand has even Alaska beat for trout. In fact, I'm not sure anywhere in the world has a better overall brown trout fishery than what you guys have.

Magnificent, fishing first and foremost, no room or need for incessant blather like other videos out there. A joy to watch!

Thanks Steve, appreciate the feedback, yes, my clips aren't "vlog" style, but like to make what I like to watch so pleased to see they are hitting the mark, thanks again. Andrew

Hi Alex, YES! That was SOOOOO rare getting footage of a Kereru on the ground, never seen that in my life, nor had Mike and Matt, let alone drinking, They have amazing colours on them, again, you only ever see their belly's when looking up into the tress! Hundreds would walk past that wee braid every week...

Right up there with the best of the best clips. What a great country we live in. Id love to see some indicator drifts and hits if you make another video.
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I love filming that very thing, just I'd need to put down the rod myself to film it, and I simply can't bring myself to not fish! The weather thwarted us a bit here, would have got some great drone hookups if it wasn't raining this trip unfortunately.
@waipapakura27 жыл бұрын
awesome videos! I live in Tūrangi and fish the Tongariro everyday and your videos are probably the only ones I enjoy watching, the indicator drifts and strikes are the best though, but this video is definitely next level bro!

Thanks mate, you lucky bugger living there! Yes getting those hits on film is hard, you have to film continuously, but when you get it, I agree, really makes the scene! Cheers again.

Great stuff Andrew, the footage certainly lived up to the photos and banter on Facebook! That part of the river is awesome, no doubt you got every nook and cranny sussed there. Some cracking fish amongst it and pretty much a slayfest by you boys. Great angling and yet another class production! Very ambitious shot that car over the camera, lucky its back up high and dry and running again.

Thanks Chris, yes, the camera is a bit "gritty" now however! Yes, we caught a heap of fish mate, this is only a fraction of ém!

Great stuff as always Andrew - some GREAT shots in there with great DOF and thought out angles - LOVE IT!! Was a great weekend away and typifies all that is good about the camaraderie of fly fishing. Awesome. Just wait till you get down here next...

Me to mate! Yeah amazing wee camera considering the DOF that can come out of it, if only they could improve that auto-focus, i'd be a winner! Looking forward to kicking your arse back country now... "he says, knowing damn well he'll get skooled!"...

Auto focus in low light was an issue for sure. And when it comes to my back yard - i well suspect you'll, at the very least, out-enthuse me! :-)

@jpdorsethq12807 жыл бұрын
Prosumer Panasonics X900 and older 700 series + the occasional GoPro H3+ Black and Panasonic TZ30.These items update so fast it is scary.I have a redundant Canon XL1s here but just like you folks not really suited to run and gun type footage.I do have a DJi Vision 2 Drone but not really used it in earnest. Good luck with future projects and be ever thankful for the trout fishing. Best JP

Different type of fishing than most of the NZ videos...no intricate spot and stalk for big browns with long pike like snouts. I guess that's a south Island thing. Great video.
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Dean Ransom Correct, this is a method unique to the Steelhead runs in the central North Island, however in summer which is now we also have the stalk snd cast sight fishing as you’ll see in my others clips, I enjoy mixing up the methods. Cheers

Great work. Love the stonking fish that got off leaping into the air at the Big Bend. What's going on with the Chernobyl look of the pines up by the Boulder Reach? i've not been down there for ages, and they look surreal.
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Yes, probably my favourite shot I got, along with the Pigeon and the leaping fish under the Rainbow. The Pines were poisoned years ago, but take ages to die, they want to rid the river of them as they are not native, I personally never minded them, the look bizzare now, all dead, but also kinda cool at the same time, another 10 years they will all be downed I suspect. Cheers.
@thor_68867 жыл бұрын
Yip, superb capture with the kereru drinking. I've enjoyed your blue duck shots in earlier vids. I can still picture in my mind's eye a stonking 6-7lber which leapt and threw the hook when I was nymphing the old Boulder Reach from the true right bank as a youngster. The smack as it landed and the trace broke. Shows how long it's been since I was there, not knowing about the pines. I know some anglers blame the pine plantations in on the plateau behind the Tauranga-Taupo and Hinemiaia etc for some of the issues with the fishery and lake. Soak up too much water, affect the insect life, etc. Not sure if there's any credence to that. Hopefully natives will come through and replace the exotics along the bank.

One day I will make it to New Zealand to due some legendary fly fishing, it is hard to beat the fly fishing around here in Montana, but New Zealand probably has the best in the world from what I have seen and heard. So beyond cool. Subbed to support a fellow KZbin fisherman! :)

Awesome video! The Mavic really takes your videos to the next level :D The only thing I would have done differently, if I had cut the film, is the thumbnail: 06:07 with the rainbow in the background and the rainbow jumping is just magnificent :D btw, what's the name again of the colourful pigeon...? :P Damn, I miss NZ so much :P :D Cheers Tom
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes! Didn't even think of that, I have a still that would have been perfect, may change it out, also like Mikes smile in the thumbnail, summed it up really, we all just ha d a lot of fun, even though the fish weren't big. That is a Wood Pigeon, it's native to NZ and called the "Kereru" here, stunning birds and the first time I have EVER seen one on the ground, let alone drinking, they are 100% always in the trees! It was an amazing shot to get!!! Cheers

Sorry mate, I've watched this three times now and unfortunately I'm all out of superlatives, having used them all on your previous videos. You'll just have to be happy with a 'very well done'. I agree with Chris bellow, you're a very, very hard act to follow. Especially when I'm only armed with a couple of dodgy go-pros stuck to my cap with double sided tape :-) Cheers, Craig
@troutboynz7 жыл бұрын
Ha, thanks Craig, I'll take that as a compliment! Funny how these clips come together. I said to Mike, I don't think I'll have enogh good footage to string a clip together, what I in fact had was enough for a clip at least an hour long! I like the FPV view from headcams, they tell a raw story, it's just not my thing anymore due to the stabilisation and fish-eye, I guess it's a natural progression. Cheers.
@CraigMounsey7 жыл бұрын
Definitely a compliment mate. I'm a bit jealous if I'm honest, I was meant to be in Turangi a few weeks ago but got hammered by the flu and had to cancel. Still recovering, bloody tragedy. Cheers, Craig

Hi Steve, no, not really! Here using a #10 bomb which is a 3mm black tungsten bead head and the body a simple wrap of .73 copper wire twice... that's it! The Glo bug is a small #16. But the only flies outside of taupo I ever use really are the Parachute Adams and black #16 tungsten bead Pheasant Tail, if a tout won't take either of these ya screwed! Cheers
