You just blew my mind! I never even thought about working in stages. And lighting...I was cussing under my breath about not being able to see. I thought it might have been the Knobb Creek Old Fashioned that I was sipping on. I keep a pair of reading glasses in my tying gear. I just can't bring myself to use them. I am definitely going to redoing my entire setup from storage to Vise. Thank you!!👍

I kinda figured out the "tie a whole bunch of one thing" tip on my own and boy could I see the progression in the quality. The difference between the first few and the last is remarkable. This tip is money. I also found a vintage organizer at an antique shop (wife was looking for lamps, china, etc.) that I use for hooks and beads. You know the kind - metal cabinet, plastic drawers that pull out. Probably came from an old time hardware store. Last owner used it for jewelry making/bead work. It really helps me keep the hooks organized. Just pull out the little drawer with the4 size/style you want and go on a marathon tying binge!

I’ve been using one of the original fly hubs for years. Absolutely love it and one of the long-standing staple tools at my fly bench. I use it for everything from midges to big streamers. Really helpful for production tying and glad you showcased it!

I had a teacher/baseball coach in junior high who had a sign in his classroom, " Organization is the Key" . I have used that in life, not only fly tying, and fishing. Every time I tie, I tie least a dozen from zebra midges to Sex Dungeons. My tying room is set up with a rap around built in desk, 4 drawers tall. I have upper cabinets and a rod and reel locker. All my materials are in trays or bins from the container store. It is my man cave.

I am tying 100 flies for Trout Unlimited's Tie-A-Thon. This is my 3rd year. This year I am tying a version of the Pink Copper John posted by Svend Diesel. I have the pattern worked out with the changes I wanted to make so I'm ready to git'er done! I agree - by tying the same part of the fly over and over it helps me identify the best way to do it and make it look great. I increase my ability to use that technique effectively on any fly that uses it and they look consistent.

Great video n tips are very real. I myself learned that tying a few of 1 recipe before the next works well n the flies get better n easier 2 tie. I'm getting back n2 tying n lighting is a key factor 2 see as well as reduce eye fatigue. Very good point. Good quality glasses help there as well. Yes I said it because I'm at that age where my eyesight isn't what it used 2 b. Cheap glasses cause eye strain n that is counter productive! Thanks for great video and keep them coming. God Bless n fish on!

I am so incapable of doing this 😅. Only time I tie multiple of the same fly at a time is for an upcoming trip or for when ppl hire me to make them flies. Otherwise, I usually let my mind wander and try to come up w new patterns based on the materials on my desk. It’s not efficient but it does allow for innovation. I have come up w several patterns or adaptations to old patterns from being less organized than the average fly tier. I do agree that the way you get good at tying is through making the same pattern many times in a row.
