Such good tips! Staying organized can help save you money too….cant tell you how many times I “re-bought” stuff I already had one or two of. The struggle is real 😂

Sharpie colors bleeding and changing colors when hit with Super Glue also happens when hit with Sally Hansen's. When you started on the White Thread and Sharpies tip, my mind immediately went there. I was happy to see that you followed up with that warning. Good tips!

Good tips ! I’ve pretty much learned the same things from tying a lot of years. Started in early 70’s and what is amazing is the amount of materials available today as compared to my early days ! I still have boxes of Mustad hooks marked $1.69 ! Mustad was pretty much the standard in those days ! Enjoy your videos !!

Great tips!! Started tying 2 years ago and have tied and tied and tied…… now I have more flies than I’ll ever need. Best thing I’ve found in tying is how relaxing and enjoying it is. Just retired this summer so hopefully I will have even more time to tie. And fish them. Donne size 20 drys to 10 inch articulated musky flys.

Thanks for sharing your tying tips. For deer hair bass flies, I use hard plastic discs with ahole in the center to help push the packed hair back using a hair packer then use my half-hitch tool to secure , whip finish and remove the plastic disc (remember those old bingo marker discs?). As for organizing, I use large flip down storage bins and put lime materials in each bin.

Thank you for sharing such variety of good solid tips. I recently retired and just started tying 2 years ago. You have no idea how much I appreciate the knowledge and your guidance in the good-natured way of presenting it, that has kept me from getting frustrated and quitting.

Thanks for the tips. I reorganized my 5 drawer carts with baggies- see thru, all together, and handy for all my materials. My tool caddy is another dimension!😂

Thread control with a thread you really know intimately …totally agree…in my case it’s ultimate tying silk from FishOn Productions

shoe storage boxes are great for the same use as the fridge organizer. They also are VERY cheap at any big box store in the home organization section.

Brian… all your tips are great! I’m really glad you brought up a glue finish. I never real trusted it , and a whip is, at times, have messed up a great tie (for me). If you have never had it fail, I’m going to proceed with confidence. Question… must it be gel? Why so??

Thread color, I learned about the sharpie trick too late. I still have too many colors in various size threads but commonly use white and finish with sharpies now.

All true, but I have a sincere question, since I haven’t used gel superglue. Why use gel instead of regular superglue to finish a tight thread head?
@ryansaulsbury-qb9sj3 ай бұрын
I like it because it’s easier to control, to manipulate.

Great tips! Two more: Take a lesson from a pro, no matter the price. Look hard into what flies guides tie, the guys fishing 100+ days a season; this can be a real eye opener.

Less is better, never more. I've been tying since the late 70's, and only in the last 5 or 6 years, I started hearing this misused tip for new tyers. The term goes back further, but a German-American architect coined the phrase in the early 1900's to sell a design to a board reviewing his design. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was a minimalist architect. It doesn't bother me. It's just silly. Less is better... doesn't that make more sense?
