FLY FISHING THE DRIFTLESS REGION: Does TroutRoutes really work?? (South Bear Creek, Decorah, Iowa)

I have been hearing all sorts about the Bear Creek watershed just outside of Decorah Iowa.. Word on the street is that North Bear Creek and South Bear Creek are some of the most visited trout streams in the entire state! I guess its only right that I finally made my way out there. I would usually consider myself an early bird… When I rolled up to the parking lot before dawn, I was surprised to see the number of cars and trailers already there.. I really prefer to fish alone, so this sent me into a slight panic. I was thinking there was no way I was going to find my own slice of water to fish with all these folks. But as soon my feet slid into the beautiful spring creek all my worries washed away. Not only did I get my very first Driftless Trout Slam, but I was also able to get on some seriously quality pre-spawn brown trout (which I think were wild??) With the density of fish and the chance at eager fish every bend, I understand why the lots were packed. South Bear Creek would be a perfect place to bring a new angler to help them learn a good hook set!
This was seriously such a fun video to film and even more fun to put together! Like I said, TroutRoutes recently reached out and wanted me to give their App a test drive. I am not one for gimmicks or any sort of flashy bs. So I mean this when I say, this little App is quickly becoming one of my new favorite research tools. I just got this App, love it!!! saves so much time on where to go, and love how it rates the streams, so you have an idea what its going to be, love how you hit directions and your on your way, This plus onX fish when it comes out for still water will be my fishing app.

Another great video Mike. I’ve been using Trout Routs for a few months now. I was reluctant to comment about it simply because I thought it might seem like a product endorsement that may violate some KZbin protocol. Don’t want to get kicked off your channel! Not sure about south bear but north bear the browns naturally reproduce. In fact i like fishing middle bear in the fall because the browns will swim up there to reproduce. And I've see some big browns on middle bear. I've never caught anything big on middle bear but seen them. Middle bear is on north bear. How to fine it. Its the 3rd road. The road after the camp ground is the first road. Go straight, the next road is 2 and then 3. Drive down the 3rd road you'll cross north bear. Walk up stream. Your going come up to a fence, cross the fence, the first pool after the fence has a spring coming into it. Thats middle bear.

It’s a great app but it doesn’t show everything like many people said on here. I always compare the app with Wisconsin DNR. Also the WI stream map shows the feeder creeks.
