Flydigi Apex 4 Elite Controller: A Casual Gamer's Review
Hey everyone! Today I'm putting the Flydigi Apex 4 Elite controller to the test, but from a casual gamer's perspective. You won't see me take it apart (there are already great videos on that), but I will be putting it through its paces with some games and showing you what this controller feels like to use every day.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The Apex 4 has a distinctive design, thanks to the see-through plastic. The buttons feel great - nice and clicky, with just the right amount of pressure required. The joysticks are something else entirely - the bounce-back is unlike anything I've experienced, and it feels amazing. I also really like the balance between mushy and stiff on the back buttons.
One minor point - the triggers feel a little hollow when you press them. We'll see how that translates during gameplay.
Let's Play!
I'm excited to see how this controller performs with some games, especially since it can simulate different in-game experiences with its pressure-sensitive triggers. Imagine racing with a trigger that feels like a gas pedal, or firing a weapon with a trigger that feels like the real thing!
Deep Blind Dive: Flydigi Space Station
(While I won't be making adjustments on video), the Flydigi Space Station app lets you customize a ton of features on this controller. There's a lot to explore here!
Wired Connection and Gamepad Tester
We'll now switch to a wired connection and use the gamepad tester website to see how precise the buttons, triggers, and joysticks are. The pressure sensitivity of the triggers is definitely there - you can see the values change on screen as you press them down.
Breaking Down the Interactive Screen
The interactive screen on the back is a cool feature - it lets you adjust settings without memorizing button combinations.
Bluetooth Connectivity and Lag Test
Now, let's test the Bluetooth connection. I'll be playing some iPad games to see if there's any lag. Since these games involve constant character movement, any Bluetooth delay will be very noticeable.
Overall Impressions
As an old-school gamer (Atari, anyone?), I'm having a blast with this controller. It's a great reminder that you don't have to be a pro to enjoy a quality gaming experience. The combination of great feel, customization options, and cool features like the interactive screen make the Flydigi Apex 4 Elite a winner in my book!
Bonus: LED Lights
I noticed that the colored lights on the controller change during gaming. I'm pretty sure you can customize this through the Flydigi Space Station app.

The intensity of joystick vibration can be set either weak or strong...by default out of the box, vibration was set to 50-60% if not mistaken

Does it really sound that click clacky in person? Like when you press the triggers and move the joysticks to me it sounds quite loud in comparison to day DualShock 5 controller.

Hi, thanks for reaching out. I did have the mic near the controller, down on the same level when I recorded it. But still I do think the joysticks and triggers do sound like you described when using it. However, especially the joysticks feel amazingly unique, nothing like it I have felt. For the triggers, not so much-could be better, even after configuring them for pressure sensitivity for certain games. But overall, I really like the controller. I would keep until something better comes out, but my guess is it would be quite a while.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I’ve read that Victrix Pro BFG is pretty good for PS5. Have you looked into the DualSense Edge which I wouldn’t mind getting it for my PS5 (if I had one). And there’s Nacon Revolution 5 Pro which looks great.

got this controller and love it, it just bothers me that the rumble motor is a bit audible when the controller is vibrating (like it feels like I hear the motor working and not just the vibration). I felt like it could be a small defect in my unit but it seems like yours has it too so I won't worry

Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes I agree, one gripe about it is the rumble motor. It’s audible and not as strong and intense. When increasing the rumble intensity from the original 60% to higher like 80%, it’s better but still audible. Overall, I’m still very happy with it with all other features on it.

Hi, thanks for reaching out. There are so many brands that are from $4 (on AliExpress) to $26 (on Amazon). They are pretty much the same, depending on how long you’re willing to wait, Ali could take up to a month. Search for “USB-C magnetic adapter” on either. They keep changing their brand names.

Do you trust the space station software, when I did a scan one detected a trojan or false positive?

Hi, thanks for reaching out. I understand your concern about the software. Antivirus scans can sometimes flag legitimate programs as threats. It's always good to be cautious! Have you tried downloading the software directly from the Flydigi website? For me, I was neutral on this, but now I may have concerns. Because the PC that I use in the video is only for some casual gaming, and testing things for YT videos, and for whatever required PC installations (such as full-frame cameras that I have), I tend to not think about that. My main work horse is my M3 MacBook Pro. But now, I have concerns. Would you like some help researching the issue? I would like to research user reviews or forums related to the Flydigi Space Station software to see if others have encountered similar situations. And I could report that here.

I was going to suggest that, if you hadn’t already downloaded for the PC. The Flydigi Space Station app seems to be primarily designed for mobile devices anyway (Android smartphones and tablets) to control the Flydigi Apex 4 controller. It’s definitely the Best alternative! I now wish I had an Android phone and tablet.

…in addition, I also did a URL scan for their download link, and got “Seclookup” to be malicious. However, I researched this, and it could be a False Positive. Anyway the app on a mobile device or tablet is the Best way to go. I’m glad you thought of this.

Thanks for your feedback. Off camera, yes, I’ve tried fast and slow when testing it. Also tried to do it smoothly and then roughly, the percentage would stick around under or average of 10%.

Suprisingly how good is the chinese product since if compared with all their new technical they put into this controller to the price tag -- I think it's not something pricey btw. I've owned the Elite series 2 since 2020 and it still usable for me until the series 3 comming. But when I see this controller I have to - must give it a try. Well, chinese product always being treat like "oh, it's like a chinese product -- don't buy them, it's bad". Felt really sorry for them. Urgh..they just deserved it better than that.

Hi, I just tested several games in my iPhone (iOS 17.5, latest). I’ve tried “Stardew Valley” and “Beach Buggy Racing” with no problems. I also tested Delta Emulator and tested “Metroid” (NES), “Super Mario 64” (N64) and several others. No problems. To me, it’s fully compatible. So there shouldn’t be any issues.

Hi, thank you for reaching out. I think it outshines most controllers. Its physical components of the controller (the joysticks, ABXY buttons, not the shoulder and triggers) and the adjustable features through their Space Station app supersede all of them out in the market.

It has the best joysticks I have ever felt. The centering is far better than any hall effect joystick I have used with almost no drift unlike the kk3 max. Maybe I got a really good QC controller but it seems to be the case for others. Only downside is the inner back buttons being basically unusable if you have your index and middle fingers resting on RB and RT. Even if you don't they are not in a great position. As for aiming it has been phenomenal. I play apex on 4-3 linear no deadzone and the lack of drift is so huge for aim especially long range and the adjustable tension is really good. I have had battlebeavers, scufs, aim controllers and elite series and this is just better. not to mention the price being much less than all of these.

Hi, thanks for reaching out. Not, directly I guess yet for this game. No difference using the trigger for this game. But you could manually go into the on screen settings of the controller to search for “Trigger > Sniper” (something like that, I don’t have it with me right now). Or in the Space Station software. It should work as good as any shoot-them-up games.

I finally tried using the DualSense controller with Cyberpunk, but it didn't work as expected. It did seem to activate the DS mode since the controller vibrated, and I got a notification saying it was in that mode. The button prompts also changed to the PlayStation icons instead of the Xbox ones. However, there was no haptic feedback whatsoever, like no vibrations when there were explosions or driving off-road, which you'd usually get in the standard mode. The triggers worked fine for shooting, but they just had a basic recoil effect (like in recoil config setting), which wasn't that great. I wish the DualSense integration was as good as it is on the PS5 version.

Hi thanks for your comment. I think it’s only available right now on Amazon. It’s sometimes would run out, but it would be restocked. As for warranty, I think you have one year-there’s online support for that at their website. You also have 30 days to return policy from Amazon.

Hi, thank you for comment and reaching out. To be honest, I have not used the Vader 3 Pro, so I may not be the best person to advise on controllers specifically for that genre. However, when it comes to controllers in general, the Apex 4 has so many ways to configure it, including racing. But again I wish I could help. I would love to try out the Vader 3. Hopefully soon. Normally when you reboot the computer, the ram is cleared or emptied of its contents. But any way, if you did all that. Something else is wrong which I don’t quite know what. Have you checked the requirements for the PC to run the app?

Hi, I do know of but never have used either the “Brook Wingman XB” and “Goku Wireless Controller” on Amazon. However, you may want to look into it further. Because I also heard (but Not necessarily true by what people are saying online) that recently Xbox no longer allow unauthorized third-party accessories to be used with Xbox consoles. Hope that’s not true. So, I don’t know 100 percent.

Hi thanks for reaching out. At the preset, no. But later I made the vibration adjustment on the controller to more than 60% and it was as strong as the Xbox’s. You could also adjust it through the Space Station app.

Hi, I’d say this. For customization, how it feels in hands and how it can perform. Not that the KK3M isn’t good, it also great. Both are, but I’ll choose this one.
