The Nuzocke continues into Kanto! Can I beat Pokémon HeartGold with only Pokémon that are found at night?
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first nighttime Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

I wonder if it would conceivably be possible to do a routelocke - or in other words, using 6 unique Pokemon lines that all derive from a single route in a region. I’m not sure if it would be a proper nuzlocke considering route 1 probably doesn’t have enough lines to fill a team, on the other hand they would all be very low BST so much more challenging. For example - Hoenn Route 102 seems very interesting for an early routelocke, although alternatively it could be such that if you wanted to make changes you could swap 6 from a single route with 6 more from a different route after certain checkpoints? (# of badges etc?) Might be a really interesting setup for a Randomizer attempt.

In all fairness, you can evolve Eevee into Umbreon fairly early on. But yeah, it's unfortunate that most of the new Dark types are unavailable until the post game

I'm always blown away by how you just became a fully-fledged KZbinr, out of nowhere: you do interesting videos based on something that everyone can relate to while being unique, you have enough skill to consistently do nuzlockes, you have a fully-developed persona in your very calm voice and dry humor, you give a very strong narrative with your editing and script, never leaving out the parts where you struggle or fail (one of the reasons I like jrose so much, for that matter); and you post consistently. You know what could be an interesting run? Pokemon black and white 2 with only pokemon that evolve through stones. There are actually a ton of pokemon you can get that evolve through stones in those games. You can get: a sunkern from route 20 a growlithe or magnemite (if you want to count that since it's a stone evolution in sword and shield) from the virbank complex an eevee or cotonee/petilil from castellia city (you can also get skitty if playing white 2 but why would you want skitty?) one of the elemental monkeys or cottonee/petilil from lostlorn forest A mincinno from route 5 a tynamo from chargestone cave A litwick from celestial tower a staryu from undella town a roselia from route 12 a clefairy from the giant chasm and a cottonee/petilil from victory road (if you didn't get it in lostlorn forest or castellia city)

Definitely one of my favorite challenges from you so far. My heart did sink when Hotspur the Houndoom perished in battle. As a fire type lover, it was hard to bare witness to. Hardcore agree with what you said at the end about challenge runs with diverse teams. I'm attempting a White 2 run right now, and my theme is Pokemon whose names start with P. That... leaves me with a lot of NFEs, but my current team of Pignite, Pelipper, Probopass, Petilil, Psyduck, and Pinsir is a super fun one. Lots of love to Probopass, it came in clutch just in time for Skyla.

To have such a wonderful 2nd part from an earlier nuzlocke makes it for me, this is hands down excellent content. I really loved the theme in this nuzlocke, it was a fun way to get out of the monotype routine. May I suggest something like doing a run in which you catch only species with a certain beginning letter, i.e. Pokémon whose name begin in "A"? I don't know how that would work but yeah, I'd love to see that. Also, Laprá best pronunciation ever

a challenge i did a long time ago was a safari challenge, only using pokemon you can catch in the safari zone. if you do this as a FR/LG nuzlocke, you can get early mankey, nidoran, and paras to take you through the early game. thought id recommend if you were looking for more challenges like this one :)
