Robbie is a lovely Vet to look after the bats so kindly. Myrtle looks so good (if a little skinny), and she doesn’t lack for strength and agility. My money is on her to fatten up and get flight ready again. I’m glad there were no visible injuries to her flight structures.🖤🇨🇦

What a sweetheart Robbie is! When my little gray and white cat became ill recently, one x-ray was $180 USD and was inconclusive - and vet didn't offer any alternative views. If Myrtle had sore ribs, wouldn't it really hurt to try and fly? So relieved she has something which has a better outlook!
@Megabattie Жыл бұрын
I'm not convinced that she has/had rib fractures. They're only on one side and I think this would have been reflected in asymmetrical flight. I don't know. She didn't appear to have any pain if you handled her. I hope it isn't one of those soft tissue things where they don't ever fly again and you never know the reason

yeah, to me it looked like she might have some damage to the costal cartilage(due to location of the funkiness) of those right ribs which will as you say will need time to heal... she made beautiful X-rays I was glad there weren't any broken bones1 I hope she dose heal up well and gets some good weight on her so she ca properly take back to the sky's!

“Fart puppy”. 😂 This is a really educational video, Meg. Are the wavy looking parts of her lower (left?) ribs old, healed rib fractures, or could they be caused by gas (are her rib bones malleable enough that gas can cause the ribs to curve in those places)? It’s fascinating seeing the x-ray images, and how you position the bat to get the most accurate angles to look at her bone structure. She wants to fly. Perhaps a nice extra week or so of spa care will be all that she needs to achieve lift. Fly, Myrtle, be free. We’re rooting for you. Thank you, Meg. I hope you’re still resting and healing. 💙
@Megabattie Жыл бұрын
The lower right ribs look discontinuous. But she displays no sign of rib pain. It's not gas.

@@anyagetman8596 , Fixed wing versus a non-fixed wing. Edit to add: the one side isn’t completely useless in this case, only weaker. In the airplane engine, the left wing is almost useless. Edit 2: Tamarra explained it better with her analogy.

She won't star in another release video though - the window for hard release back into the colony is a maximum of 10 days after rescue. After that they go out through the release aviary and you don't see them fly off; they come and go for a while, and come back for a feed if they're not fit enough to find enough food for themselves, and eventually they don't come back.
