Just WOW! What a restaurant. The L1011 is one of my all time favorites! I've had a few flights in my life as a very lucky Irish kid in the late 90's/early 00's on Delta and Air Atlanta Icelandic. I remember a few different things about the experience, like my granny telling me as we're boarding "look Jesse, our airplane has a chimney!" I also remember holding my mom's hand down the back of the plane waiting to use the toilet and thinking "this is completely mad", because there's this cool semicircular design of 5 or 6 toilets where the galley would be on a normal airliner, and you just stand and watch for one of the doors to open, like some sort of gameshow. It was also touching down in Shannon, sitting behind the right wing of a Delta L1011, that I remember the exact moment that I decided "I like planes now." Considering I'm only 28 years old, I have been very fortunate with the dinosaurs I've gotten to fly on! Thanks as always for the exceptional content Simon. I flew in a BA L1011 Tristar 500 in 1981 to the Caribbean, loved every minute of the 14 hour flight via Bermuda and the Bahamas, to get to Kingston. Still one of my best flights ever. BA gave the Tristars to the RAF in the mid 1980s and they only went out of service around 5 years ago.

My first flight in the early 90s (as a child) was between GLA and YYZ on a Caledonian Airways L1011 (god, I'm old), which sparked my love of all things aviation and so the L1011 is a special plane for me. Cracking video, as always.

I checked out Coffee War a month ago on the way to U-Tapao airport... Highly recomended! Had an iced coffee in the A330 thats complete with what looked like ash trays in the cockpit! Unfortunetly the Tri-Star wasn't open, not sure if it ever is anymore. Also worth checking out is U-Tapao-Rayong airport, interesting place. 2 x Thai Airways a380stored there, and it used to be a US Airforce Bomber base during the vietnam war

I flew the L1011 several times with Delta (I might have been on the one you ate in). It was such a wonderful plane to fly in. In fact, I was on an L1011 that landed as a hurricane was hitting S. Florida. It was the only plane they would let land because it was so technically advanced.

The L1011 dining experience was on Saudia and Gulf Air back when petro dollars were super dollars. They had the TWA type swivel seats that rotated around a circular central dining table. Only bettered by the A380 lounges. Cathay Pacific cemented their excellent reputation using the Tristars on regional Asia routes. Great video Simon. Thanks

I think the Germans YourtravelTV was also in the L1011 restaurant. My flying story started in 1989 with an L1011 from Germany to the US. LTU and Delta used them a lot in the 90s. another side note: Lockheed invented the four brake system in the 1920s.
