I just started ff after about a 50 year lapse. My dad and I used to go out to Black Bayou or Bayou DeSiard in Monroe, La after work and fish til dark. I miss those times. I had to replace my floating line and lube the automatic reel before bank fishing, had a blast. I'd fished the same dam in Bella Vista, Ar with worms but couldn't get the bream to commit. Now I catch 2 dozen or so. I try to encourage those around me to try ff. A decent fly fishing for panfish rig is really inexpensive and Walmart sells them, no need to buy $600 dollar rods and waders and all that. I had some 50+ year old popping bugs still unopened that I inherited from my dad, the fish can't tell that they are antique baits. Bass hit them too. Loads of fun.

Nothing like the tug of a fat bluegill on a light flyrod to make a man feel young again. You portrayed that nicely!

catching them on a fly rod is way more funner and you don't have to deal with slimy smelly baits.

I wish I could show him my one-handed, off the kayak stern roll cast. Pretty cool way to strip streamers along the bank from a foot-drive kayak.

The larva from a wasper nest make an excellent blue gill bait.
