This week I fly the PA28 back from France to Gamston after a fantastic lunch on the French coast in Le Touquet. I just can't believe how easy it is to fly across the Channel in a PA28!

Taking your kid to another country for lunch makes you the awesomest dad ever!! I think I’m the same age as you @Noel but I’d be honored to be your kid co-pilot for a day if you and the family fly the Mississippi north and end up in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin lol. There’s no airports nearby but I’ve got a couple big fields you can land on😄. Just don’t expect French cuisine lol

As a private pilot in the US, I'd be interested in the things that weren't covered. When I fly from the us to Canada (my only international destination to date), I would have to file information on the aircraft, pilot, and passengers in advance, file a flight plan, and be in communication with air traffic control when crossing the border. In Victoria, BC, I would taxi to a pay phone and call a toll-free number to check in! Coming back to the US, I would have to follow those same steps, stop at the nearest international airport, park in a yellow box painted on the ground, and wait for Customs and Border Protection officers to come to me. There was always a search of the plane and a bit of an interrogation before they'd let me continue on my journey. It sounds like you had a flight plan on file, but it looks like you flew all the way home without stopping. You didn't mention the immigration formalities or advanced notification. One day I'd love to fly from the US to Tangier by way of Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, France, and Spain. What an adventure that would be!

That was a good question from Sam about different classes of aircraft using the same frequency. Whilst you use two boxes to be able to listen to one frequency whilst being tuned to another for communicating with an ATCO, my aircraft does not really have the panel-space for two radios. Instead, my radio has a feature called "Dual Watch" which allows me to listen to my standby frequency whilst being tuned to the primary. If a transmission opens the squelch on the primary frequency, the radio cuts the reception of the standby frequency rather than mixing audio from the two. When the squelch closes again, it returns to receiving on the standby frequency. If both frequencies are silent, as the squelch opens on the primary frequency, there is a beep to let me know which slot is receiving without me having to look at the display. A detail you missed which would also have given useful information is that in aircraft with two boxes, the second box is often used for the nav instruments (as far as I understand it).

You mention Bleriot in the vid and whilst he was famous for crossing the Channel you may not be aware that a Bleriot plane was used to begin flight operations only 3 miles from Leeds Bradford. A Bradford entrepeneur, Albert House already had the first car in the city, he ran the first bus and wanted to fly. He bought a Bleriot and flew from Rawdon Meadows to Filey on day trips. Lots online if you search "Bleriot and Rawdon Meadows".

Adopt and restore an ARC RT-328 radio and restore it. You will also need the tray, wires, and rear plugs. The range, tone, and quality of signal is telecom heritage. It runs off 12 regulated volts, dc. You will hear your same Easyjet plane for 20 minutes. Set the internal RF Gain,, and leave the squelch off.
