My scouting is very similar to yours Loki, but I really like the idea of sending one scout off to 12 countries in a year. I haven't done that before....I am on it right away. More great content mate!

Loki,I know nothing about European "Football" (I'm from across the pond) and have never played FM (in any version/year), but because of your Motorsport Manager vids, I started watching your "FM Journeyman" vids and became interested in this game because I like "management type games" now onto my requestcan you make a "tutorial" type vid on "Transfers & Loaning" of players? something as a teaching tool for those like me who know nothing about this, as this is a totally foreign concept to American sports. We do not have such a beast and I am trying to get my head around this concept and way of doing "player management"Thanks

If I have the time, which is not very often, I will generally set up all my scouts to different nations and possibly a few regions with 4 star potential, 15 determination, and under 21. If I am incredibly ambitious and want to stick to the key tenents of gegenpressing, I some times add a filter on work rate, teamwork, stamina, and natural fitness. This usually gives you quite a lot of bang for the buck. I then set all of them up to scout key competitions to then pull in the best senior players available. If I don't have any time, I leave it up to the chief scout and manually scout a bit more.

interesting, i never really go into that much detail myself when setting up scouts, i prefer a more broad search then judge each player myself

That being said, I have been known to snoop around the regen days and blanket scout regens from random countries. I'm slowly coming to the realization that it's not worth the time, but then you find that amazing 6'6" center back from Honduras or some other far-flung place and it reels you back in. I think I'm going to go a bit more traditional for the rest of FM17 go rely on my scouts. Keep these types of videos coming!

Thanks for this Loki. As someone who is very new to the game, the depth of it can be quite daunting. Any tips for running lower league teams with little to no transfer/wage budget? I'm running a tiny team who can barely afford a single scout, so have been searching manually and was wondering if you have any tips for signing players to basically play for nothing but a small appearance fee. Would I still be better trying to get a cheap scout (if the board will give me the money) with local knowledge, as working with attribute ranges and no scout reports can be hard? I know some people recommend starting with a big club as they have funds, but my logic was if you have no money, it takes away some of the "option paralysis" of such an in-depth game, plus I was inspired by your journeyman series and also wanted to start off as unemployed and work my way up the game. Look, I admit it, I basically just want to be you.....if you ever see me peeking through your windows, just ignore me...I'm harmless. Seriously though, cheers again, and any more of these sort of guides would be greatly appreciated.

hi Stuart, i would definitely get a scout, even a bad one, he will still come up with some decent players. but for small clubs like karlovo, i generally just manually search like i did in the video. you can add options to the search regarding wages and stuff to refine it more to players you can actually afford

At the end of the video you were talking about staff suggesting players and I have an amazing anecdote about that. I was in my second season with Sunderland and the staff came to me about Lucas Lima who didn't have a contract. I scouted him and saw he was 4 and a half star so obviously I signed him. When it got to January I managed to sell him for £60m and in that same year he scored the winning goal in the champions league final for Madrid. How I managed to pick him up for free I have absolutely no idea!

what is your opinion of roles distribution like how many def., supp. and attack roles should a team have also is it smart when a coach advise you before the game like you should have 5-6 support duties for that tactics should i accept the advice or just do my own thing

My personal tip: Scout lower league clubs in scandanavia. Ullern, who play in the Norwegian third division, are an absolute goldmine. Basically all players in the first team, with an age of 20 or below are worth signing, most have championship/prem potential, and cost absolutely nothing (most expensive is felix horn myhre, costs 3K!!!)

what do you mean for a league i don't have selected? do you mean a league i don't have loaded when i started the game? if so yes he will still scout that league, there will just be a lot less players

Need help with scouting players as my team is so small I only have two scouts and say I told them to scout 30 players it would take them 30 days and by that time the transfer window is closed and I can barely see any players attributes

Is it a lower level small team? Running into the same thing. What I've done is try to max out my scouts and then have them stick to one area. So essentially the same idea, but I am doubtful my Ladbrokes League 2 team is going to attract some gem from Argentina anyways. My two cents.

Gray Hair Gaming cheers My team is in the league below ladbrokes league 2(downloaded it) and the weird thing I'm finding is that my scouts think everyone isn't good enough for the league yet I have won my first 5 games including a 3-0 thumping of recently relegated Clyde! I hope it's just the scouts are terrible and I need to get promoted before actually trying to utilise my scouts properly.

it does make it harder, especially if you downloaded a lower league database, the scouting system was not built for it. the scouts are saying players are bad because they are terrible scouts i imagine lol

i don't really do much with training, early season i set team training to team cohesion and tactics for a couple of months then usually defend and att positioning, thats about it

do it yourself at the start of the season, that way you can choose them to train on tactics and team cohesion (to settle the new players) after a couple of months you can just set it to your assistant
