I think you make ALOT of good points. Are they solid and definitive? Hard to say but a fresh perspective with someone who is at the very VERYS LEAST trying to draw parallels with pieces that didn't exactly fit anywhere is greatly refreshing and helps to keep things in perspective and it's great you call out details that many people don't discuss.

Eye contact does not exclusively indicate lying. It also indicates fear, insecurity, distrust, discomfort, etc.
@GmmBeast
@GmmBeast Жыл бұрын
It's actually a common misconception that liars will look away or shift eyesight. However, the majority of liars want to maintain eye contact to ensure that their lie is being bought and accepted. However, I don't know what it's like for children. Breaking eye contact and looking to the side could also be someone trying to collect information from their mind and process their thoughts.

Personally, I have a very hard time looking people in the eyes in general, no matter who it is. I can do it with animals though. Maybe unconsciously it's because it feels more like people are judging me and animals don't feel the same way to me for some reason.
@horinum

@@GmmBeast I’ve read somewhere that the trick isn’t keeping eye contact but more so looking for behavioral changes when they lie. So if somebody don’t keep eye contact normally lie and then they suddenly change their habit, it would be easy to notice.
@GmmBeast
@GmmBeast Жыл бұрын
@@horinum when trying to determine if someone is lying, it's good to understand their baseline. If someone naturally has a high blink rate, blinking quickly for them doesn't necessarily mean lying. Also, there's never ever ever one thing alone that can be used to figure out if someone is lying. You have to see a cluster, multiple behaviors all at once or in quick succession that deviate from their baseline. But it's true that liars are way more likely to maintain eye contact to see your reaction to their lies.

Patient 46 not looking at the therapist could mean they're lying... Or it could mean they've been through a traumatic event. People who have been through trauma usually struggle to look at someone when recounting what happened. The therapist doesn't believe patient 46 has experienced trauma because they "had a happy childhood", so it makes sense that the therapist would conclude that patient 46 is lying. But we know that patient 46 could be dealing with the memory of trauma from their own past life or even someone else's

Yeah and as someone who's dealt with someone else's memories and trying to come to terms with that: it's not easy. It's so jarring and an almost empty stomach feeling when having to deal with the comparisons. Also this just reminded me, there's science behind people looking down meaning "internal dialogue" or "kinaesthetic"
@jenmiranda13
@jenmiranda13 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. When I'm uncomfortable I tend to look away and I've been taught that staring is disrespectful so I hate it when teachers would assume that lack of eye contact makes students rude. And I only ever hold eye contact when I'm mad and want be intimidating. I'll look at people when I lie to, like you said, see if the person believes the lie or not. It depends on the person but for the most part lack of eye contact rarely is a bad thing.

I really enjoy the explanation from John about how Nightmarionne wasnt or isn’t necessarily the character itself but rather the concept of a “dark version of Charlie” The one quote that always sticks out from UCN is, “I am the fearful reflection of what you have created.” Charlie as the puppet in the same game mentions that they’re not afraid of Afton anymore, and Nightmarionne says “fearful reflection of what you have created,” which always felt strange as like… why are they the “fearful” reflection? Doesn’t that imply they have fear? And the line reflection also implies something too. I think it’s interesting that there can be this little sweet girl voice coming out of the Puppet while the “dark” version sounds demonic, mentions they’re “fearful”, and also states that they’re a reflection of something Afton has created (the possessed puppet?). I kinda hope they take that somewhere in the future, but the concept alone is cool.

I appreciate Matt bringing up the books being required reading for lore around 28:00, and therefore somewhat alienating a part of the fanbase, because hes right; reading is a HUGE commitment to some people. And in order to indulge in more of the FNAF lore, you are forced to read thru an ever-growing book pile that could take people months to read them all. Its why I have huge appreciation for people who explain the book lore in simple talking bullet points like Dawko, because it takes away that huge commitment while still being able to indulge in the content.

Some points he proposed he was glad to recognize where things went awry, and that’s great. I really appreciate the sentiment "It doesn't really matter which of us is right" because in the end, this whole thing is supposed to be fun. Finding details and making connections to figure out a story is interesting and engaging and that doesn't change just because you use different details or make different connections or draw different conclusions - or if it later turns out that you were hinging a conclusion on a connection that didn't exist or a detail that wasn't important. It's the whole process that's cool, especially as it leads to this sort of collab where people approaching the same game from different perspectives can discuss the different things they see about it.

I'm glad that John doubled down on the parts of the theory he supported, but was open to being wrong and questioned other parts. I can't imagine how intimidating it would be to be questioned by people you look up to and the pressure to completely fold and abandon all your previous thoughts and ideas.

I love this! In the grand scheme of things does this matter? No, but MatPat & Tom are wonderful examples of how you can disagree with someone without being mean. It's always such fun watching MatPat & other creators theorize together!

Fun fact it's a misconception that when people lie they look away. More often than not they make more eye contact that usual. Either because they've heard the misconception before and they're intentionally trying to throw you off or because they're trying to see how believable their lie is.

what i like about john is that he likes to take big steps. matt often spends a while on smaller details looking for little things, but john will take anything and roll with it, and i think thats what we need at this point in the lore.

Why couldn't Charlie be the CEO who's designing the Megaplex around her buried memories? It's actually a common misconception that liars will look away or shift eyesight. However, the majority of liars want to maintain eye contact to ensure that their lie is being bought and accepted. However, I don't know what it's like for children.

If tape girl's original intention of tape 1 was to stop people from reassembling the logs it would say don't collect them as the first words and wouldn't be telling you that there were more or that they might be out of order. She hid them so she knows where she hid each piece.

In the wrap up Matt talks about the idea of the power cords being symbolism for building something on a burial site and I JUST WANNA PUT IT OUT THERE THATS QUITE LITERALLY WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SILVER EYES. They decide to look for the old pizzaria and find out that A HUGE MALL WAS BUILT OVER IT, WHICH IS ALSO THE SETTING OF SECURITY BREACH. Just a little interesting tid bit that connects the books and the games Even more, I personally dont think that they are the same mall or the same place but it just proves that the books and canon.

One thing that could aid to Tape Girl lying the whole time is when you're putting together Glitchtrap and he's constantly saying "Hello? Can you hear me?" (which is what Tape Girl starts off with) being a hint as it's part of the end goal. Tape Girl reintroducing themselves could also be a way to pretend they weren't possessed at one point to build a background and manipulate the player.

I can attest to that cause I do this a lot when I talk to people. I have social anxiety/just anxiety as a whole tbh and it’s difficult for me to hold eye contact when talking to people. Not because I’m lying about something, but just cause I’m uncomfortable just as you stated. :)

The comparison of the novels and the graphic novels is interesting because it lets you know what's definitely intentional and what's just filler. If something shows up in both of them, it has a much higher chance of being significant.

"Sorry I'm late to the party. Fashionably late, of course." So, interesting ly there are more inconsistencies between book and graphic novel. I know it's trivial at best, but in the book, Marla is the one who wrote, "Carlton smells like feet," but in the graphic novel, it's Charlie. That is something that I noticed immediately looking through the graphic novel that has been in my mind ever since.

I think at 54:08 what john meant was the tactic to the end goal shifted. First was the curiosity of the thing messing up the game and the need to keep the tapes apart to find the tapes and destroy glitchtrap. Both were ploys to assemble the tapes cuz the one where she says to not assemble them is number high so if u were to listen to them u would start at 1
