Thank you for this tutorial!!! I'm finally getting excited to try to get this right. I should have watched this in the first place before my unsuccessful attempt . Lol!!!

you are welcome ... have fun and I wish you success.... and yeah this is a difficult one and takes some practice to get around those corners... part of it is also having a tall enough pleat that it does not buckle on you

Would it be possible to get the measurements of your cross stencil?
@MrTieDye Жыл бұрын
the vertical post of the cross stencil I use is 13-1/2 inches long and 1-3/8 inches wide the horizontal cross piece is 4 inches long and 2-1/8 inches wide ..... I taped the cross piece so there is 1-3/8 above the cross piece and 8 inches below the cross piece ... I wish I could post photos here ✌🏻 and just in case it helps, here is anohter method of Tie-Dyeing a Cross : kzbin.infozknBQnbCsmM

@@MrTieDye Thank you! I am new to tie dye and love your channel and your talent! I love the challenge of creating. Watching from Creswell, Oregon.
@lovekrav Жыл бұрын
@@MrTieDye you said tape the cross piece so there is 1-3/8 above but it does not look right. Did you mean 3 3/8 in above? If taped with 1 3/8in above then there is greater than 8 inches below the cross piece.

Can you do sinew instead of thickened water
@MrTieDye Жыл бұрын
yes you can, in fact, I just recently made a new Cross Video where I tie with sinew : kzbin.infozknBQnbCsmM

yes I have worked hard to get corners down..... I may do a video just on corners and use something bigger to fold so I can show the detail
@heartforchrist70043 жыл бұрын
I just tried my first tie dye cross but I also have issue with folding when tie dying since my shirts are wet. You said presoaked the shirt it looks dry in video. Did you dry it after presoaking or is it partially dried? Thank you.
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
My tees are barely damp when I fold and dye them... after I soak in soda ash, I 'spin' out the excess soda ash using the spin cycle of my washer ... some washer spit water during the first part of the spin cycle(this will dilute your soda ash), so set it to half way through ... when it is spun out, then the tee will be barely damp ... I like to dye while barely damp as the dye soaks in nicely for me
@Wheels85042 жыл бұрын
Can this be done with large letters? I had an idea to use the letter N, but in a way where it looks wrapped around both sides of the shirt. I'd like to spiral a shirt first and then trace the letter so it looks wrapped around both sides.
@MrTieDye2 жыл бұрын
yes I think it can be used in many ways... although I think it will work better for symmetrical letters ... for other letters, I do a Raised Pleat : kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzupSkhAoL-bNx-5t-36H3F4c

Do you ever have problems handling the shirt with the soda ash already applied? I either do it dry or with just damp with water, then soak in soda ash/water after I've tied it.
@MrTieDye6 жыл бұрын
no it does not bother me, but I know it does for some people... main thing is that it get soda ash at some point so it can set the dye, but it does not matter what order you do it in

What is thickened water?
@MrTieDye6 жыл бұрын
I use it to hold space in the tee as liquid likes to spread to dryer areas..... so if I want to leave white, I put thickened water there ..... here is how I make thickened water that I then use to make thick black dye for the outlining I do on a lot of my designs ...... kzbin.info/www/bejne/n57EhYuNmbN9itE ..... and you may need to adjust things just a bit to get the right consistency, but this will get you very close

hey Carl!!!! i cannot seem to do this design. it keeps buckling up. my cross looks like a blob with 4 things sticking out. :) you can see its a cross, just n ot a very good one the corners are hard!!!!! is there another method?
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
This is the only way I have done the cross, as for the buckling, you might try making the pleats slightly taller .... it took me some practice to perfect this design so just keep at it and you will have success .... as for the corner, I find it best to end a run that I am folding with the end of the line being on the downward side, that way i can fold the next line up with a twist to lay it right in line with the other fold, I hope that made sense

I had a tie-dye cross at Carlton Palms. The place was shut down for abuse. I hope the guy who made it for me is okay?
