Right. Mick was just taking horrific bumps no one else in a major promotion would take. It seems obvious now but it's almost surprising to hear how much those really hurt him because they sold it so well that he had such a high tolerance for pain.

I was at the St. John's show, and have sporadic memories of that match. Sadly, WWE hasn't had a house show in literally 15 years. It's so infuriating to me to know that they run dozens of matches in the same locations, yet they can't even be bothered to even host a single house show in Newfoundland, despite us having a massive arena. How much is on them, how much is on our province for jacking up the cost of airfare, I don't know. But someone in power should mention it to them, or even AEW, as it would be a welcome change for once.
@kipster38022 жыл бұрын
Has nothing to do with our province or airfare. Back in the day canada was a big part of their business. Nowadays they're much more worldwide going after big dollars, not to mention they run a lot less shows than they used to. The production of a house show these days is gigantic compared to what you saw. Wwf left a ring at the old stadium for 10 years used the light from the labatt light scoreboard and all they had to do was set it up once they flew folks in. Now even a house show has its own lighting rig, barricades, ring, huge entrance stage and multiple camera men on the ground. Not in a million years is that worth trying to bring here on an island for an arena with 6000 capacity.
@ivenstorm2 жыл бұрын
@@kipster3802 Doesn't have anything to do with our airfare? might want to double check that one. Because last I checked I can get a trip from Texas to Toronto for less than half the cost of a trip from New Brunswick to Newfoundland. Hell, I'll give you one. A couple years ago I was travelling from St. John's to St. Anthony. It was going to cost me 1200 dollars. I could reduce that cost to 800 by flying to Nova Scotia, then to Quebec, wait 9 full hours, and then fly to St. Anthony. The airfare has always been a problem within the province and it needs to be dealt with at some point. That price wasn't nearly as bad back in the 90s even with inflation. They still run just as many house shows, every week. They just keep it to the mainland. And by the way, Legends of Wrestling used to hold events in the province all the time. We don't need the fancy equipment, I think most of us would just settle for having the wrestlers show up and perform. And they have filled stadiums with just as low if not lower capacity. Even if a stadium states it has a 7k capacity, WWE chances are fills it up with nearly double that amount. And you know they would charge enough to make money.
@kipster38022 жыл бұрын
@@ivenstorm no, it doesn't. All the equipment would have to come here on a ferry. They charter flights with the crew in and around the maritimes.

So Mick's right; pow wow should not be used in this context Pow wows are actual spiritual and cultural meetings, which were made illegal in the USA and Canada for decades. Indigenous people were not allowed, by law, to practice their own ceremonies, dances, sacred practices, as thst was since as a 'threat' to Christian religion. It's not cute name for a squad meetup or huddle, it's something that real people had and have to fight to be allowed to do. However if you have the chance to attend a pow wow, do! Make sure it is open to all (most are) and make sure you know how to behave respectfully in that sacred space 🧡 Remember that we are being granted the privilege of joining the celebrations, we are not entitled to be there

It's really crazy how Conrad would ask a former professional wrestler "would you rather be a critical or a financial success", as if there's this body of wrestling critics out there. There's just The Observer and nobody should give two fucks about what Meltzer thinks about anything in 2022.
@ssssssstssssssss2 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize that, but it kinda sucks. I think for wrestling to be taken seriously as an artform/theater it needs a good number of critics. Not just one goofball.
@psynque2 жыл бұрын
@@ssssssstssssssss I guess, I just kinda think that the "age of the critic" is in the past. Nobody really bases their consumer choices on the opinions of the critics anymore because you can catch a feel about a movie, album or whatever so much easier before watching it. With wrestling it's even more difficult since it's live entertainment and to add to my original point I think the only "critics" the wrestlers should care about are the other boys in the back watching the match. When it comes to Dave, he really is just a goofball as you said. I respect him as a historian to a degree but any good will he had as a journalist or a critic is long gone. It's just farcical at this point when some fuck has had more 5* matches in a month than Bret Hart had in his entire career.
@captainxhulio29292 жыл бұрын
@@psynque Meltzer sucks ass. He went from being a reliable, sensible guy that I mostly agreed with to being a spoiled little snob. I think it happened after he went to Japan. After he saw All Japan Women's wrestling he became unbearable. He refused to acknowledge the different styles in regions and the ACTUAL feelings of the fans. This is also the same guy that said the Iron man match between Michaels and Hart was boring. And by this point in 2022 Meltzer has exposed himself as an idiot. He was such a snob and so selective about everything in the 90s it's laughable that now he thinks Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks are the best. Twenty super kicks and six stars later and Meltzer is a joke.
