97 Bret was the best heel in the business it was real no gimmick loved it
@Antihero2973 жыл бұрын
Bret was the best kind of heel because you could kind of see his point. He wasn't some moustache twirling villain, he was a frustrated professional wrestler venting his anger. Very fine line between kayfabe and reality.

i hated that he was heel. i hated that he was kind of right. you knew on a level his anger was legit. he was a GREAT heel

@@mox19380 WWF and WCW both have shows in Los Angeles this week on the same night. WCW is treating it like an internet PPV and will be doing live audio commentary on their website (no video because, well, it's 1997. Think of how much of a pain in the ass live video streaming still is now sometimes, then subtract 20 years). They're also promising a confrontation (but not a match) between Hogan and Sting. As for WWF, their show will feature Bret Hart's return to the ring and a bikini contest with Sunny, Sable, Marlena, and Chyna. According to WWF officials, ticket sales are neck and neck, while WCW claims to be several thousand tickets ahead of WWF. Both sides are claiming that the other is heavily papering the shows. For what it's worth, Dave says that despite the perception that WWF is the #2 company, the truth is that they still consistently outdraw WCW on house shows. And the advance ticket sales for Summerslam, which is still over a month away, has already made more ticket money than WCW has ever made for any show
@josephboza74482 жыл бұрын
Around Summerslam you can tell he was frustrated af and he wanted out. Thats why I was surprised he was put over to beat Undertaker and become the first challenger to win the WWE Championship at Summerslam like JR said. I forgot Taker was the WWE Championship. It felt like he was a side piece in the Bret vs Shawn feud.

I'm Texan but there's Austin in 98 and there's Rock in 00. The fact they both tried to go Hollywood and only one succeeded is proof who was bigger. When Austin was on top they did Celebrity Deathmatch...when Rock was on top they did SNL back when it still mattered. Also when Austin was out for surgery in 99/00 they weren't constantly having him on TV like in 97, the ratings didn't dip, the Rock easily carried the ball. You can thank Mick for helping initially but the Rock was always more marketable. "The People's Champ" was more than just some guy who mostly feuded with his boss. Don't get me wrong Austin/Rock/Hogan/Flair are the top guys of all time. There's a few right below them Mick/Savage/Sting/Piper/Taker but the rest of the so called greats just didn't connect. Austin, Rock, Mick were all blessed Hart left for WCW and HBK got hurt because those two had Vince's ear and honestly made a crappy product. Had either remained it would have drug out the war much longer because they just weren't that entertaining. We just weren't so lucky with Cena/RKO who stank up the joint so long it may never recover. And seriously no HBK didn't make shit for the era go rewatch it...he's getting booed when Sid wins the championship off him and he's supposed to be the face. He gives a Cena-esque interview afterwards but you can tell it bugged him he wasn't loved by all the fans and it bugged Hart that the product was getting trashy to stay competitive. Hart/HBK were arguing they were technically better than everyone else. To that I'll agree but I don't care about their ability to fake fight...I care about their ability to make me care about the fake fight and why it's being fought. Also DX is late to the party by the time they arrive and the best version of DX was HHH, New Age Outlaws, Chyna, and X Pac anyways.

I can not believe Owen never apologized to Steve. Not that I think he was a saint, but how could you do that to a guy and not on any way try to apologize, check on him, etc?!?
@ilovefatpussy117224 жыл бұрын
Who knows if he apologized owen probably could've been in the championship picture against Austin. But Austin didn't want to wrestle him.

Thats whats fishy about this, Owen did a sit-down tombstone, he always did kneel tombstones, seems Owen was purposely trying to hurt Austin imo

i saw an interview with bret where he mentioned owen felt very bad about it but was told not to talk to austin in case there was a lawsuit cuz apologizing is admitting guilt.....also i could be wrong but i think austin has said he was so upset he wouldnt have talked to him anyway

Just shows Owen is another person who's goodness in life has been exaggerated after they have passed. IF it is true that Owen did not apologise to Austin then Owen was a coward plain and simple, there is no excuse for not giving an apology after doing something like that.

I still hope that there is stock footage from that day I was there. My father drove me and my mom to the arena in a hearse with the Undertaker rest in peace shirt in the window. People crowded around the hearse thinking the Undertaker was in there and it was just me and my mom getting out. I was 7 years old. Funny coincidence well, not funny, that was the last event I went to with her. She died in December of 1997 from HIV and one of the last phone calls I remember talking to her in the hospital was about the pay-per-view bad Blood and I remember saying to her mommy you have bad blood too

Wait JR what do you mean Vader didn’t have anything left? The way they book him killed him, especially versus Shawn. Unless he’s talking about a different time? Also it’s true that US/CAN rivalry where the faces and villains switched depending on the country was one of the coolest storylines in history.
@adam-thesportsguy61479 ай бұрын
I agree when a 5’10” 200lbs Shawn Michaels screamed “Get up you piece of shit” for a shoot after stomping a supine Vader in the face in the middle of their Summerslam match…Vader was dead at that time. Vader thought he still had a lot left which is the only reason he didn’t jump up, shove Shawn’s head up his ass, and throw what was left of him into the 18th row. He knew if he did that Vince would blackball him forever. Smart booking could have gotten another 2-3 great years out of Vader including runs with Austin.

Never cared for Hogan when he was changing diapers, making cartoons and eating vitamins. Couldn't stand him after he knifed those same fans with the "You fans can stick it brrrooother" speech. It's one thing to play the game and business is business. But Terry let it go to his head. Rather have Stone Cold any day and he had major problems with WCW when he left. Smartest thing WWE ever did was drop the cartoon crap
