With all due respect to Ian Smith who I admire, India didn’t really have a revolving door in the keeping department since Dhoni’s retirement. His ready replacement was Wriddhiman Saha, who was a serviceable batter while being arguably the best wicketkeeper in the world (and criminally underrated at that). The team was deliberately built around Saha’s keeping ability, with Ashwin and Jadeja batting around him. As soon as the management thought Pant was ready, they phased out Saha in favor of Pant, who was clearly an upgrade overall. The only time there was something like a revolving door was when Pant met with that unfortunate accident. Even then, India found a few different options, all fairly good, that they can build a team around.

Saha was not a good batter at all, atleast by performance India deserved a keeper who could make fifties and centuries consistently

@@shubhamkumar-gx5vx Sure, like I said, he was at best serviceable as a batter. But the whole point of selecting him, especially in that era where India would prepare minefields at home, was to have the best keeper possible with above average batting skills, and together with the allround depth, they would be able to do a decent job.

29:06 I take it that DK’s name was taken in jest? He never quite cut it as a keeper at this level, and a batting average of 25 never did justice to what he could have been in an alternate universe.

The problem with India not playing Ashwin is India's fragile batting. In kumble's time indian tail sometimes could bat upto 9 or 10. With kumble, harbhajan, zaheer, irfan etc etc. And also the batsmen could turn their arms over as well, with sehwag, sachin, ganguly etc. Now none of the batters can bowl, and almost none of the bowlers could bat apart from ashwin and jadeja. That makes it very tricky

Allrounders like Shardul, Hanuman Vihari, Pandya, havent really performed consistently plus lot of injuries.

@@dashmeetsingh9679 shardul has too many limitations to be picked consistently . he's a 5th bowler at best, which again brings up the problem of no 7 and 8. There's no comparison between sehwag/sachin/ganguly and vihari as batter/bowler. Pandya is too injury prone. But players like him who are genuine batsman and a very good 5th or 6th bowler is the one India need. If pandya plays or india can develop someone like nitish reddy, that means We can play Ashwin overseas with no problem with batting and team composition

I was very surprised by Pant's selection for the T20 World Cup. IMHO, he is not at all suited for T20s. His strong defense, tempo management and counter-attack are really well suited for Tests (and he's proven that and knows that). In ODIs based upon his body of work he would slot behind the likes of Rahul, Samson and even Kishan. But if he's able to showcase better performance he may yet find a place in the ODI setup - TBD.

Bangladesh pacers lacks the ability to reverse the ball barring taskin. If these young bowlers develop this art they will became very good team which can perform in every phase of the game. And their spinners were bowling bit slow which is not suitable for Indian conditions.

Ashwin might be playing more this time. Rohit and Ash has a good relationship. Their story starts long ago, Ash was in the original squad in a under 17 India that toured outside, but in the last hour he got injured and Rohit replaced him as an opening batter. Rohot specifically mentioned to select him during the 50 over worldcup 2023. So Rohit rates Ashwin so high, unlike Virat and Shastri combo that kept him away a lot of time.

Why you always bring some county match example to distinguish with international cricket? Don't think county has the same standard as it maintain even 10 year's back example Pujara and Shaan masood scored tons after ton in county but when they played for their National squad not had much of success.🤫

Most of the best international players played regular county cricket from the 1960s until the 1990s. It wasn’t as strong as international cricket (for the most part), but all the county sides featured big West Indian, Pakistani, Australian and South African stars. If you want a modern comparison, it would be similar to the IPL in that it was a domestic competition that attracted the world’s best players.

@@tpjpower I am from old school so I always believe in 4 day's cricket rather than paijama cricket T20, secondly if you want to nurture your cricketer's from Grass root tell them the importance of test cricket as according to me test player can easily walk in to T20 may be his strike rate very but T20 player very rarely fit in test cricket, the downfall of pakistan cricket today because of too much obsession with T20 format.👍

Ashwin was done in by Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli. Add that to the false narrative spread by jealous cricketers like Harbhajan and you can understand how unjust the treatment was to Ashwin

Exactly! Kumble Harbhajan had to toil hard for their wkts in their time. India wasn't producing rank turners and matches used to last 5 days. Many of them ended in draws. Ashwin has been very lucky ( also jadeja axar) to bowl on rank turners where matches end in 3 days and you hardly ever have any drawn test matches. Ashwin gets easy wkts and never had to work hard for his wkts like the bowlers of previous generations. That is one of the reasons why Ashwin doesn't have a single five wkt haul in sena countries even after playing for 15 years

@@prathamchhabra4833you should develop some reading comprehension skills. Tendulkar dravid may have played on roads in India but they also scored a lot of runs in sena countries. They were great because they performed everywhere. That's one of the criteria of being great. In tennis you need to win on all surfaces. In football you need to prove yourself in different leagues ( home and away). Sachin dravid were not dependent on conditions like ashwin. The fact that I have to explain this to you , tells me you don't understand cricket at all
