What’s funny is all of the pros I rode with in the 80’s stood all of the time except once they were ready to accelerate out of a turn. The only real difference I see to today’s style is being on the balls of your feet on the pegs.

Riding a lot of mtb on downhill trails with clipless pedals helped me a lot to keep those feet on the pecs.

I pretty much learned to dirt bike from watching AJ's KZbin videos, hoping to apply it to my other passion; night vision. Two years and many miles in the dark later, the ONLY reason I can competently dirt bike under NVGs without crashing is foot on the pegs, attack position as the default. It really is that essential to keeping it on two wheels. Thanks for all the tips!

Cool! I have a few LONG nights experience with night vision. I was struggling to see, especially nothing close to my front tire. I had to think about perfect position the entire time because rocks and roots were sneaking up on me

@@AjCatanzaro Sounds about right, getting the NVG objective focus sorted out is a big part of overcoming the limited field of view and lack of depth of field. I've heard of people riding with just PVS14 monoculars but I don't and wouldn't recommend it. Dual tube systems work way better especially if you're willing to run "googly eyes" with one tube focused at 5-10ft and one focused at 25-100ft depending on speed/terrain. Varg will also help a lot, only having to worry about two brakes and the thottle is awesome in the dark.

I'm 30, I started riding b4 I could walk.. i was on quads, dirtbikes, snowmobiles all of it everyday on 120acres of farm land that was adjacent to a race track in MN... but my dad died on a snowmobile when I was a kid so I never got to race, now as an established adult with my own money and time is it to late to get into racing? I have always wondered how I'd do in a race especially on my home track that is now known as BCMX AP. Is there even a such thing as an adult begginer class? (Sorry I'm hoping someone in the comments with experience reads this and replies) 😆

Hey man! 30s is definitely not too late to start. There's age classes all the way up to like 65+ or 70+ in MN so you could ride 30+ C and that's a great beginner class! BCMX is also my home track as I'm over between St.Cloud and Princeton, getting back into racing this year myself.

AJ has said many times..."It's never too late" I took his class and there were 60-year-old riders there. I'm 53 and just started riding in the dirt 2 years ago and it's been a blast thanks to AJ's instruction.

D class is for everyone, 250d 450d/350 . But Vet class like 25+ 30+ etc can still have these fast guys that's been racing for years. It's a good place to do a race or too before getting into the age class

I see that the Stark Varg is pretty much the go to bike AJ is riding . . . Is this bike more fun or can be easier to ride vs my Husqvarna FC350? Just wondering as I am very curious about these bikes and maybe it is worth getting one vs gas bikes?
@TRGP331

I got to ride one. It is incredibly fun, and simpler to ride than a gas bike. At this point I would have one as a second bike but not yet as my only bike.

No one ever talks about how the 4 stroke has changed the way we ride. 4 strokes don’t slide out like the 2 strokes.
