they’re good but c’mon… there has been an absolutely incredible post punk revival after interpol that hit it’s peak around 2011-2018, though is still going strong. these guys aren’t as innovative as bands like Women, Protomartyr, Iceage, Swans, Xiu Xiu, Liars, Bambara, Savages, Girl Band, just to name a few off the top of my head. at the drive in isn’t even post punk

Fontaines may not be as good as Swans for example, but they'll reach more ears. There's a reason they're opening for Arctic Monkeys in the states next year and those bands aren't.

I love how each band member has their own look, style, or attitude. Lead singer is channeling the Gallagher brothers from early Oasis. The guitarist in the white shirt is a greaser from The Outsiders, total attitude. The bass player has this androgynous, kind of glam look, but super understated. And the drummer invented his own style with the sweater vest with no shirt underneath. He just screams Irish. I don't know why I'm noticing this but it informs their music and makes them unique I think. They're a great band, though.

FDC are usually compared to legendary bands but never one band alone... What I read from that is people are hearing something genuinely fresh and those songs are giving the feelings they had when they first heard those other band's tunes... Main thing is that the quality of FDC's songs are at least on a par to those new wave / post punk or whatever bands they heard before. It's great for people who like guitar based music to be able grow up with their band from their own generation, rather than have to look back to the past.
