This song is sadly overlooked in the discussion of the greatest cover songs ever made. FF stayed true to the original song but still managed to make it their own. It is easily recognizable as Baker Street, but also easily recognizable as a Foo Fighters song!

fun fact... Gerry Rafferty originally intended for the sax part of the original to be played on a guitar, but he wasn't able to find a guitarist when they went to record. so i feel like this is faithful to the original vision while still adding a unique spin. bravo to Dave for knocking this out of the park!

Finally a positive comment. Foo Fighters aren't trying to school Rafferty by playing his song. They know what a legend Rafferty is and they actually like this song enough to cover it. Both versions are pretty cool. I personally like Rafferty's better. People shouldn't be upset just because a band liked a song and decided to cover it.

GR's original is amazing and one of the best songs in rock. FF made a cover that to me is brilliant. It is completely original yet they play every note of the original. They learned the song note for note, nuance for nuance and then took it apart and put it back together as their own. I've read all the comments below. Why compare? They are both art; they both stand on their own; and they are both brilliant. I dare any band (including my own) to take an iconic song, and make it original yet keep every nuance. To the comment about DG's voice, he nailed GR's vibe. Amazing work, as we have come to expect. Thank you!

Winding your way down on Baker Street Light in your head and dead on your feet Well, another crazy day You'll drink the night away And forget about everything This city desert makes you feel so cold It's got so many people, but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long To find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything You used to think that it was so easy You used to say that it was so easy But you're trying, you're trying now Another year and then you'd be happy Just one more year and then you'd be happy But you're crying, you're crying now Way down the street there's a light in his place He opens the door, he's got that look on his face And he asks you where you've been You tell him who you've seen And you talk about anything He's got this dream about buying some land He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands And then he'll settle down In some quiet little town And forget about everything But you know he'll always keep moving You know he's never gonna stop moving 'Cause he's rolling, he's the rolling stone And when you wake up, it's a new morning The sun is shining, it's a new morning And you're going, you're going home

There's something about Gerry Rafferty's original that brings back my childhood. I distinctly remember hearing this song piped through my parents' stereo and thinking there was something so beautiful and soothing about the saxaphone and how the song came together. The Foo Fighters did a great job of modernizing it. A lot of covers fail to deliver the underlying "feel" of the song but FF did a great job of keeping it intact despite the sax being replaced by guitar. It flat out rocks.

Absolutely. You never know what cover they'll toss in, or who might hop on stage with them. A couple years ago, John Travolta walked out on stage and they did a song from Grease. 🤣

Normally I say the original is the best version and all others try to come close at best. But this version of Baker Street was powerful and masterfully done. Even the guitar riff at ---> 4:00 was deep and with a haunting feel that goes to the core. Bravo Foo Fighters! This was a fantastic performance...

Monster hook. I feel Rafferty's lead guitarists at the extro is one of the tightest and finest lead I have ever heard. Thanks for keeping it true especially that lead

This song takes me back to a specific memory when Napster first came available and a friend was trying find the original version to this song and tried to explain the guitar solo to us. Someone even called their uncle and he just asked us if we were high and why were calling him so late at night wondering about the name of a song (we probably were) Finally, I remembered the Foo Fighters cover after listening to it on a local rock station and blurted out" Backer Street" and he finally was able to find and download the song. Kids today have no idea about the luxury of listening to any song at any given time without worrying about "pirating music".

I just found out there was a 90s British dance style cover of "Baker Street". This one is one of my all‐time favorites. No sax, no keyboards, just raw rock power and I like it!

It is nice to hear a cover of this without relying on the saxophone. A cover should add something to the track, not just replicate what we as an audience already know.

First up, I am not a fan of most covers, especially by modern bands, secondly I LOVE the original so I came here with low hopes. But this does sound fucking incredible. Not better than the original but a worthy tribute and a great song. I also always thought that sax solo would make a great guitar solo and it does!

My sentiments exactly! Rafferty aired the Original when I was in my 3rd year of College and it took Balls to cover this one. (I think that's why it was a "B" side) but Dave friggin' Grohl is a genius in his own right and they made a beautiful cover, which is more like a tribute. Simply beautiful song...
