You're blessed to be young strong healthy beautiful. My dad said farmers were the richest people on earth, and he was right. His depression days as a farmer were amazing stories. No machines. Pitch forks, shovels, hand saws, work horses, wagons. He'd cut ice blocks from the pond and store them in his barn for summer ice for his milk route. Schiebes Corner was history of the half way overnight stop for farmers traveling to city farmer market. He and his extended family's worked together to prosper with veges, fruit and livestock. He'd say he was born between the kitchen and diningroom, as his mom's memories were always working there. 💕 I enjoy your utube 💕 thankyou.

Hi Hollars, let me give you a quicker and neater way to peel and separate garlic gloves. Take any size mason jar that a whole garlic bulb will fit in loosely. Shake mason jar vigourously up and down 30 seconds to a minute. Then have paper bag near. You'll will slowly sift through the peelings and find clean separated cloves and 95% of the peelings contained.

Then got 3 cu ft of fine straw from the farm store and mulched and covered the rows over 2 days. I am a senior lady working by myself and can barely move after 2 days of work. That's so cool that your potatoes made fruit. Remember it is a 2-3 year progess when you start from true seeds. So if those seeds are mature, you will get really small tubers the first time. Stick with it, save and replant the little tubers another season or 2.

It occurs to me when watching you all sit down to eat, that the act of stopping and praying is also a good way to put aside the frantic working brain, breathe and then with a calm and in the moment brain you can eat and really enjoy your food. Such a simple task to stop thank God and then eat. I guess it is the same with stopping, slowing down and praying before getting into bed - a way to let go of the busy brain and get ready for slow breathing and sleeping. I had stopped praying at set times but i think i will bring it back into my daily life.

End of summer is shockingly fast. Always sneaks up on me, and throws me into overdrive. Everything needs planting two weeks ago, stuff should have been put into chilling boxes last month, because half should be coming out of the fridge for planting in a couple weeks not just getting in there, and so on. Inchelium Red garlic so far is our hands down beats them all garlic. Only draw back? Never planted enough. Even if you plant every good seed sized clove from the year before, from the best bulbs. Haha keep finding more ways we want it, and more more more... Especially freshly harvested. It's such an amazing fragrance. I even get scapes most years. I know! From a soft neck! Few do that, so much so that sellers seem to have differing info about this variety. I thought something went wrong the first time, but still made beautiful bulbs np. Some day soon the whole family will be able to have legitimate ponytails! :) Those buns are just gorgeous. If I could ever get the handle on yeast rising outside of summer. End up sticking it to rise on the back porch. Which is a bit nerve wracking. Although, what eats bread dough, and is strong enough to shift two tightly wrapped kitchen towels, besides two legged predators? lol

Meg, it breaks my heart watching you peel egg shells off in its and bits, even though you have an Instant Pot. 'Boil' them in the I.P. for six mins, and let it natural release a couple of minutes, put them in cold water like usual, and the shells will SLIDE RIGHT OFF! I can do a doz eggs in about 5 mins! Give it a try and you'll never go back to stove top boiling them. : ) When I do potato salad, I can put the potatoes in WITH THE EGGS ON TOP, let them both cook together, and in the few minutes it takes for the six mins to be up, I make the dressing for the potato salad. Potato salad ready for the table in about 10 mins! Of course, its better chilled but, still...its ready for the table!

That is so neat that you got tomato berries. You get the seeds the same way you you get tomato seeds. Each seed in one berry will produce a different variety. You would start the seed inside the same as tomatoes. In order to reproduce a variety you like from the seeds, you would have to plant the potato tubers. I just learned about this and purchased 100 seeds. Seems like a fun experiment

That’s exactly the garlic I just planted on Monday. Tuesday morning I went out and something had eaten every clove of my garlic. It made me sick in my stomach. That’s the first time I splurged on a wonderful softneck and there’s no time to replant even if I could afford to. There’s always next year. I should have known to put a covering because we’ve only had 11” of rain this year plus it was still 100 on Tuesday so the critters have nothing to eat. 😢.

We used to use wooden bins on my commercial vegetable farm for hauling winter squash and pumpkins. Since I stopped farming a few years ago, I now use the wooden bins like raised beds for my home "garden". They have a pallet on the bottom and are 2 ft high above that. I put wood chips and spent hay in the bottom, topped with a few inches of topsoil. Every year they settle a bit more so I top them with compost and plant into that. I plant my garlic bulbs about every four to six inches apart in one of them. This gives them plenty of room, no wasted space, and I can fit approximately 100 in a bin. And as a bonus, you don't have to bend over to work them. Unbelievable the amount of vegetables I can grow in those bins- tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, zucchini, etc. They are essentially a tall raised bed system with deep, dark, rich soil. Highly recommend it. And also, it cracked me up when Corbin made a face at the camera before you sat down to eat LOL!

You’re smart to plant garlic-I heard last week-I believe it was Greg Key who said it-that most of our garlic comes from China and since exports are iffy there could be a shortage next year. I’ve never planted garlic but I understand it doesn’t grow well in my area. Our Feed/Seed store had elephant garlic (which isn’t garlic, but has a mild garlic flavor)cloves so I’m planting mine today-and they’re quite pricey. I checked the price at Hoss Tools and theirs are the same price. I guess if I want them I just have to pay for them. Meg, your rolls look delish. If you’ve shared your recipe, could you please direct us to the video? Y’all take care-God bless!

I have a question about the rack you have your vegetables in. On the wall in your kitchen?? I love it. I have a cupboard but everything rots before I remember it's in there. Out of sight out of mind. Love watching you guys.

I got it from amazon! It holds like 40 pounds and has been great for keeping everything out where I can see it. I am guilty of out-of-sight too.

I’m hoping to plant at least 300 garlic we go through so much and I make garlic fermented in honey. I have been able to grow hard neck garlic in California by putting them in my fridge for 8 weeks and my favorite is Music garlic

I had garlic growing last winter into spring transplanted it because it was too small it died and then came back this fall so I've transplanted it back to where it was and it seems to be doing okay. I guess we'll wait and see what happens this winter into next spring.
