Might not see this but hey. I was able to make ice cream in my dryer. The method of the bottle in the plastic container was getting there, but not quite. I used two metal containers, ice cream inside the small one, inside the large one surrounded by ice and ice cream salt, sealed tightly and graciously padded so as not to damage the washer's inside. Turned out delicious, and was JUST the right level of frozen. (Side note, make sure the smaller metal container is not vacuum sealed, and it works better if the two containers are actually fused together so that the inside container isn't bouncing around the inside the larger container. Maybe weld them together?) I originally got the idea from an ice cream soccer ball that I use to have as a child. It was basically the same concept, but you kicked it instead of abusing your dryer.

For the ice cream, using pre-crushed ice would help prevent punctures, especially if you got the pieces small like shaved ice. And then you'd want really heavy-duty bags, like the kind used for sous vide, or using a thick and sturdy Tupperware that's taped shut for the ice container. Probably also stick it to the drum of the dryer, like with double sided tape or something. It might tumble a bit less, but there's probably a lower chance of it breaking that way.

Suggestions for ice cream, having made a bit myself with a homemade crank one: more salt for the ice- lots more salt, and realistically more ice as well. Basically you need to create saltwater as it has a lower freezing temp than the ice cream, and more salt makes that more efficient. Also- they make glass mason jars about the same size as your plastic one, with metal lids. Maybe also try attaching it to a side, to keep the motion consistent. (Something you try to do with hand crank ice cream makers is not stop the motion, so inconsistent motion and change in direction might be working against you.) Good luck! Hope that gave you some ideas! Look forward to the next attempt!
@existentialrookie54322 жыл бұрын
I was thinking maybe a top load plastic dryer might also help. The one they have is a front load, made with metal, and is a bit too big, which causes big inconsistent motion to the plastic bag/jar of ice.
@cullenlatham23662 жыл бұрын
not sure if glass is the right option, at least without changing other factors like affixing it to the barrel itself. If even plastic, with a higher elastic deformation potential, got shattered by the various tumbling, the glass will likely become dangerous.
@rvcloud2 жыл бұрын
@@cullenlatham2366 excellent point, which is why I also suggested attaching it to the side. A sealable metal container might work better in case the attachment fails- however metal will also contract with the cold and make the container harder to open, or won't seal well enough to contain the ice water. I do think if they do test a large glass mason jar, wrapping it tightly in a blanket and tying it up might be a good idea as well as attaching it to one of the walls.
@poisonpenfairy28442 жыл бұрын
But one thing that didn't make sense to me is ice cream needs a lot of air to get churned into it - with all the necessary sealing of jars I don't see how you could get enough air in to make ice cream

@@poisonpenfairy2844 when I make it, the recipes I use, the liquid only goes about halfway up the container, and eventually fills it. Perhaps that's something else that their experiment can improve on- but really I'm not sure what the solution to that conundrum would be.

I made ice cream in a bag when I was little, a couple recommendations: 1) The jar probably would have worked if you had reinforced the lid (maybe with duck tape); 2) Temperature, make the ice colder by putting some rock salt in with it. With those two things, you can make something resembling soft-serve in about 5 minutes; if you want something firm, like Dreyer's (ha, pun), it would probably take about 4 hours (you may have to switch out the ice a couple times). Maybe use a food sealer to make a bag for the cream, those things are pretty tough.

Hi! Lover of food and puzzles here :D If you seal the ice cream in a small aluminum canister this should work a lot better. Aluminum is dryer safe, it's common to put aluminum foil in dryers to help with static actually! Adding something inside to help mix it, similarly to how you did the butter, should also help. A lot of highly rated ice cream makers are built like this, with a canister holding the ice cream ingredients surrounded by a larger canister that contains the coolant. Plus you won't have to worry about the ice piercing the bag : )
@blueee00882 жыл бұрын
For the coolant you can even use milk, as they found out recently
@grantsorensen13662 жыл бұрын
