One thing I like about your channel, and KZbin in general, is it’s a good way to learn things you didn’t know before. It’s quick and easy, digestible information that expands your knowledge and how you interact with the world around you. Before watching this video, I knew what bread was. Before watching this video, I knew what cake was. And at the start of the video, I was so excited to learn more about what makes bread bread and what makes cake cake. Yet here I sit, at the end of the video, now living in a world where the line between bread and cake has become so blurry that bread and cake have ceased to exist, and somehow exist simultaneously side by side. You have dropped me in the middle of Shcroedinger’s bakery, and I will never find my way out.

McDonald’s was once sued over the Quarter Pounder. Someone weighed their burger and found it weighed less than a quarter pound. McD actually had a plausible explanation. The pattie is 1/4 pound precooked. It looses some weight during cooking. McD’s advertising now states that the 1/4 weight is the precooked weight.

As someone who works at a Subway, let me yell you, it could definitely be worse. Just get a six inch with a decent amount of meats, cheese and veggies, and you're good Some people want double meat and extra cheese on a foot long, with waaayyy too many onions and peppers, hardly any lettuce, and drown it in sauce

in my country, bread does not contain sugar, the one that contains small amounts of it is called "excellent bread" (toasts, croissants, hotdog buns), it's really hard to translate it right, and those that have even more sugar but are not cake are called "semi-confectionery" it is difficult to translate because we have a separate word for bread and all baked products (excluding cakes), when in English it is one and the same word

The US, after people were killed by adulterated foods (some of which included actual poisons) in the early 1900s, leading to the creation of the FDA. There are rules about practically every basic food, and how they are to be labeled, how, when and where ingredients must be listed, etc. I would suspect things like that were the case in pretty much every country.

@@in4mal_baker270 FWIW, fresh and healthy are not the same thing. If I buy and cook 80/20 beef chuck from the butcher the same day he ground it, it's still not healthy even though it's fresh. Conversely, if I buy a bagged salad from the supermarket, it's not necessarily fresh but it is healthy. With that said, the freshness of Subway's ingredients is up for debate, as I've been to some locations where they try to load up the sandwiches with more ingredients at the end of the day so they don't go to waste, and I've been to other locations where they cling wrap the tubs of ingredients and refrigerate them for the next day. The funny thing is, the only thing that's made fresh everyday at all locations is, well, the bread.
