Agree totally with your take on the Spore chicken rice, definitely bamboo shoot better than miserable pieces of cucumbers but not forgetting the fresh fragrant corianders leaves n the vinegared chilli sauce that compliments the Spore Hainanese chicken rice. Oh how much l missed them. Makes me want to fly home to just spend two weeks in quarantine eating all the local food ordered from GRAB or asked my friends for favours to deliver my favorites to my quarantine hotel n then "bingeing" for the rest of my stay (a month) after the quarantine is over.

Taiwanese chili sauce are mostly watery, sweet and a just a tiny tinge sour. Spiciness level could just be 5% at most for the sake of it haha! But lots of great food there. Just that Singapore's variety is much wider. I can't live long without a sample of our Malay/Indonesian food at least a meal or two per week.

If you want to try out some old military (眷村)flavor... try out 家家麵食. For Hakka style food, visit 義民廟 in 新埔. Also a Historic site. For a more diverse dining experience, go to 東門市場 in the evening and find small shops and restaurants that specialize in different styles. Kinda traditional market meets trendy feel. Personally a fan.

@@AsiaHikelopedia I kinda disagree, there are quite a few, even smaller towns like Xinpu , Guanxi both have excellent Hakka style food not to far from CBD of Hsinchu, the only thing is, they generally not well advertised, and many Hakka restaurants don't even have signs, that sends the wrong signal, gives the wrong impression of "there isn't much to eat"...if you ever get tired of Hsinchu food, my hometown Zhongli/Taoyuan city have plenty to offer and isn't far away :)

hello, greetings from a singaporean. i have hainanese ancestry and wenchang is suppose to be the famous chicken rice county of hainan but everybody please note. while wenchang chicken is the famous and probably the original inspiration of hainanese chicken rice, and still is the famous dish in Hainan island, the Hainanese chicken Rice of SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA are Not the SAME as wenchang chicken (rice) although they are both from hainanese dishes. the hainanese in british ruled colonial Singapore/Malaysia (once all parts of British controlled Malaya , and Singapore used to be part of Malaysia) created the South East asia version of Hainanese chicken rice after they migrated OUT from hainan island. the methods of preparation, ingredients, sauces and taste are rather different. The version depicted here is probably more closer to the Hainan wenchang chicken rice version from China, probably with abit of evolution added in this taiwan version.
