Same! I like that mindset. “It really doesn’t serve me at this stage in life”. I’m 55 and post menopause. I’m a recovering type 2 diabetic and it will never go away. I manage it through food alone. No meds. LOST 51 pounds. Foods that don’t serve me are DEADLY.

So was sooo hungry after work today and I literally had no food in the house and needed to go shopping. I wanted get a box of processed breakfast bars and binge eat them in the car, but then your voice came into my head. I have watched a lot of your videos and you talked me out of it! Lol. Because it does not serve me to eat that stuff, I got quinoa, a can of tuna without salt, and spring mix salad instead, being mindful of how much protein I would consume and limiting the carbs. I also got some of Tabitha Brown's "sunshine" seasoning to see how it tastes. Ever since I started to watch you a few weeks ago, I have been eating much better and I look better. I do not have any friends who are menopausing like me and wanting to look amazing. So, I watch your videos often so that you can be that positive influence that I need to help me to get and stay on track. Thank you for this channel and for your example.

I only eat imported pasta. Semonlina pasta from Italy has a good protein content and is a rustic heritage grain. Same thing with jasmine Thai rice (it’s also much higher in protein). Pizza: we make our own, or buy from an authentic Italian restaurant only (like the parents came here from Italy). Tons of protein because we use only Norwegian hard red winter wheat (11.7 grams of protein per serving) and most family Italian pizza places use the heritage semolina flour for pizza also (it’s how they get a flaky crust). Cheese: I only eat imported cheese. Kerrygold or from Italy. Super digestible and minimally processed. My digestion and post menopausal dietary issues dramatically alleviated when I cut out lab grown foods like Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat. I’ve got my diet as certified organic as possible. It’s exponentially more nutrient dense and you actually eat less of it because of that. It ended up cutting my grocery bill in half. . . We all play hockey, me and my 2 boys, and I can feed all 3 of us on $750/month USD by buying primarily organic. Red wine does help with digestion but it also has enzymes that can trigger migraines. I don’t metabolize 80 proof (has to be 150 or higher), so I don’t see the point. As I’ve gotten older and more organic food, my taste buds have changed or they’ve changed the ingredients and I don’t like the taste.

Melissa, you are such a Blessing to women of all ages, but especially for women of a certain age who want health and fitness as a priority! For years I was in the gym in good shape and then suddenly.....I could never figure out how my health and fitness went all wonky!! Everything stopped working that previously did! I am finally getting a hold of health and fitness! 😘🤗💗🙏🌺

You are absolutely amazing and super inspiring! I’m only in my 30’s and finally have decided to make changes with my eating habits. I’m also not a drinker and really could care less if I never have another drink at all..plus it always makes me sick. I deal with motion sickness and alcohol only makes that worse for some reason. I am trying to switch out pasta and other grains like rice. I am striving to reach that point where I’m only eating nothing but foods that serve me. Please provide more videos like this. 😊

Thanks Melissa. My rule of thumb is nothing white (sugar, flour, potatoes, rice), fried, or with a shelf life. (I’m no very disciplined yet.) Also, I’m pescatarian with a shellfish allergy. Recently, I’ve been feeling itchy even after eating regular fish. My protein options seem to be diminishing! I need help! (My husband and I watched this video together so he understands my issues a bit better.) Melissa, we love listening to you! ❤

I make pizza where the crust is made of chicken. Add any toppings but I like Alfredo sauce, spinach and onions. It's delicious

Such a good video presented from a great perspective. I’m trying to change my diet to eat for the body I want. I’ve been working on eliminating all of these. The one I have fully eliminated is alcohol. Big difference. I feel so level and better in general. I’ll never go back. I occasionally eat the other three. This is a good reminder to keep pushing myself on that. Thanks Melissa!

I have gotten off track a bit . I have been invited to so many birthdays where we ate cake . I only would eat a thinner slice plus I ate food with milk in it which causes me to retain fluid . I haven’t gained much fat weight but had sudden gain of weight due to fluid retention . Time to make a change . I am going to eat about 1600 calories per day a long with strength training 4 days a week and walking . I hope this will work .

I find it difficult when a lot of my Italian friends invite me for a meal. They tend to serve high carbs foods, pasta, spaghetti, pizza 🍕 sugary desserts, and hardly any protein. I avoid fast food like various burger 🍔 restaurants and McDonalds which actually made me feel unwell recently

agree 100% about alcohol. it’s a neurotoxin, and a carcinogen - antithetical to good health.

You're exactly right about the pizza! Now I know why I can eat 5 or 6 slices of pizza without feeling full. I stopped eating it a long time ago even though my husband eats it at least once a week. No fast food or pasta for me either. You're right, these foods don't serve us!

You can make a pizza crust out of egg and cheese. You can then top it with veggies and lite cheese if you don't want fat. Personally, if it is high quality (grass fed), full fat cheese )like mozzarella it will be keto-friendly and will not cause an insulin spike and be better for you than limiting fat.

I agreed but sometimes feel culture and location might also influence what you eat. For example salmon is healthy yet to but it in Caribbesn Barbados very expensive like $25 US dollars per lb so sometimes have to buy in can

And this is why I don't have a body like you!!! I've just had a wholewheat homemade pitta pizza, I did eat some sliced beef on the side to get my protein in and I'm sat eating dark chocolate and almonds whilst watching this😂 I also ate pasta this week, but I do tend to fish out more meat and veg onto my plate and alot less pasta, and I'm partial to an odd MacDonalds about 4 times a year, and an odd Cornish pasty, I don't drink though😂 I shall try to cut down more, channel my inner Melissa, it's there somewhere!!

Is this one of the reasons why so many older women are overweight because they continue to eat lots of carbs?? All the older women in my family eat lots of carbs could that be one of the reasons why they're all heavy?? I don't want to make any of their mistakes I want to be completely extremely different from them !!!!! Also None of the older women in my family work out or have ever worked out, I don't want to be anything like them the human body was designed to move and be active 💪🏻🏋️ but now I'm wondering if this is one of the reasons why so many older women not just in my family but a lot of older women are heavy because of all the carbs they continue to eat

maybe it is, but there is a difference in "overeating carbs" and "not eating pasta in years" ... I applaude those who manage to stick with a purist diet, but in my case, i work out just so i can have pasta/pizza on weekends xD

@@fer10190preach🙌🏽 You couldn’t have said this any better . I too have these foods occasionally not consistently . The problem for many is exactly what you said : people over consume calories /carbs/fat etc., consistently and they gain weight ! It’s really that simple. Weight loss happens gradually and so does weight gain 😂.

@@lineehall267 does this mean that when a woman is in pre menopause or menopause eating pasta doesn't make her gain weight It's not the pasta itself but it's if she eats more than what her body needs like going over calories?? Because I hear people saying that once you are in menopause those foods just automatically make you gain weight but it's not the food it's the calories??

I can tell you iam 66 now and when i was in my 50s i knew i was in menopause but i think i started earlier than 50 any how it is very hard to stay in shape and at age 66 is harder now. plus i have osteporosis and i just got a small fracture in my foot now jsut from having going thru menopause and weak bones.

Honestly pizza, pasta, yellow cheese (🤮) processed food and alcohol are foods best avoided by everyone ! There is definitely not enough discussion around refined Vs healthy carbohydrates. So many people are muddling along, making unnecessary mistakes, that later in life have big consequences. Most GPs know little to nothing about nutrition and it’s scary - because people put so much faith in their Dr. ‘Functional Medicine’ is about diet fixing metabolic diseases and with the right diet (which is everything you put in your mouth, not ‘how much’) everyone can be healthier and actually feel better. Coupled with the right activity - promoted by Ms Neill and others - life can be long AND healthy AND disease free !

I dislike this advice. Life is about moderation yet you make it sound like eating a slice of pizza or having a glass of wine is an invitation to death. Workout. Move your body. Generally eat healthy. Eat a slice of pizza, drink some wine and enjoy your life. The fact that you, at 56, are restricting yourself to such an extent - for your “dream body” is bizarre. Relax.
