Thanks for the good info. I was a calorie restricting cardio girl in my 40's and it worked great. Then menopause hit me around 1994 and it just didn't work anymore even though I kept trying and trying. My muscles have practically disappeared and being this weak scared me so have begun to strength train now and bump up the protein. Let me just say it is awful what gravity does to your body as you age so the sooner a woman can get on strength training the better.

@@aristeakriki9326 It is possible to start resistance training with bands and work up to weight lifting.... even if you have physical restrictions and limitations. If you have never worked with resistance band or weights... look for a personal trainer in your area that works with disabled or deconditioned people. Phone them and conduct an interview of sorts... so you know you are getting someone who can meet your needs. You'll need someone who can adapt and modify exercises for your specific abilities or limitations. There are also good videos on YT for modifications... but you need to figure out on your own ....if you can do the exercises or not.... without hurting yourself! Mark Wildman has a good series for overweight and deconditioned people.

Great video, I’m an 8hr a week 60 yr old male cyclist 🚴🏽♂️ very cardiovascular and it does keep my total body weight very low, but as the years have gone by I started to get more fat around the middle and a loss of muscle, this prompted me to add 5 x 10 reps mod/heavy deadlifts twice a week to my programme and 3 months later I’m actually a little heavier but look and feel much better, and I’m glad to say the belly fat has all but gone.

I’m now 48 and perimenapause, and noticed weight gain at 45. So I changed my diet completely, started doing SIT/isometric training (can’t do weights anymore due to overuse injuries to right arm), and hypopressives. It’s been a slow process, but I’m now 33lbs lighter and reasonably toned. I was curious when I saw you video pop up on my KZbin feed, as to whether your advice was similar to what I have already been doing. And it is! So I’m really pleased I’m doing it correctly. I wish I could do weights again but the pain it causes in my right arm can be debilitating. I am 53 and have been lifting heavy for almost two months and eating healthfully, cutting back on sugar, alcohol etc.; I've gained muscle with that consistency but I wasn't losing any fat. I have seen a noticeable loss of some fat in just a couple of weeks since I started eating 120-140 grams of protein like you recommend. It seems like "too much" food on some days - I've never eaten this much protein in my life - but I'm still able to have a decent calorie deficit on days that I lift and walk. And I feel much better, overall, more energetic, focused, and determined to keep it going. :)

I’m a man and you may think I wouldn’t know anything about this topic but I do, I started studying myself and it just carried over to helping my wife. I’m 51 and she is 43, she is going through the menopause. I have helped my wife by getting her in to calisthenics and she uses small weights with exercises I have given her. The one thing I’m not hearing here is fasting, this is key for everyone but especially for those that are older. I went from not being able to do a pull up at 49 to being able to do a muscle-up, I am near doing unassisted handstand push-ups, this is not something I could have done before I was 49. My wife is on a similar journey and she is now looking how she wants to look in her clothes and it has changed her journey through menopause. Being stronger is just something everyone should be, we just stop doing it. My wife is now enjoying being older and stronger, I love seeing her empowered and in control. Please stop telling people you can target belly fat, you cannot, you can only target body fat.

I am positively inspired to go into this next phase with gratitude, energy, strength, happiness and health!! I also have regular talks w friends of same age and we cheer each other on. I am of Greek heritage so follow a mostly Mediterranean diet which also helps keep me on a healthy path. I do believe results are happening slowly but surely!! I'm so glad to hear you're feeling inspired! Starting with a diet change and adding at-home workouts can be a great way to kick things off. Building muscle can indeed help firm up areas with cellulite, as strength training improves muscle tone and may reduce the appearance of cellulite by tightening the skin. Also, keeping your body in a calorie deficit, if fat loss is your goal, will also help you reduce fat in the targeted areas. Remember, consistency is key, and small changes over time can lead to big results!

I’m 50- 5’6” and about 215 pounds. I used to do cardio 3x a week and lift weights on my off days when I was 32. (I’ve exercised most of my life) I did high reps with low weight and low reps with high weights- from a book by Arnold Swarzeneggar. I stopped lifting from 38 to recently. Now I’m lifting again and doing Pilates but not very consistently. By the way the Pilates helps my pelvic floor!! I hate Kegels!!! When I was younger the lifting worked for me making me stronger but I didn’t have the definition then that I get from it now!! Also Cardio would be the only way to lose fat back then. I seem to see more difference in the way my body looks now from lifting versus the way it used to look then which is weird. I weighed less too back then! Around 160. It seems I need to lift weights more than cardio nowadays. It’s what my body seems to be telling me to do. I recently tried swimming a mile every other day which I did for 9 months but my skin was getting so dry it was scaly!!! I still have the issue! I lost 40 pounds then stopped losing fat. So frustrating. In the past I rode a bike, did interval training (Curves gym), did belly dance, Pilates and swam for my exercise over the years. I’ve really noticed I’m losing my strength recently. I’m a trained auto mechanic (27 years ago) but not currently employed. I maintain our cars. I’d really like to get my weight back down and wear my heels again- I have a shoe collection of 135 shoes. I really like color! 😅

Losing weight happens when their is a calorie deficit. The older we get, the l fewer calories we usually need unfortunately!

I'm 45 and had a total hysterectomy at 38. Since then I've put weight on around my middle which I really don't like and am not used to. I was 8 and half stone and a trained dancer. Due to a knee injury I had to stop or reduce knee impact exercise which hasn't helped with the weight. I'm now just over 10 stone and don't really do any exercise at all apart from walking. I think the HRT has accelerated my weight gain, plus my love of food 🤭.

I'm pushing my calories up abit as an experiment, all the right choices but I was down to 1200 and not losing a gram. So I deliberately upped cals monitoring my weight. I have more energy now. Ready to reassess. True, running makes me hungry. I'm walking a lot but not keen to push it and run.

Great video! Using My Fitness Pal my calorie deficit is 1,200 calorie with only 60 grams of protein . I feel it is low. I am 67.

I did somewhat of a study on fitness apps. They all ask for personal Information Age, height, weight, gender and each one gave me different calories per day to lose 1-2 lbs per week. In my opinion Myfittness pal and others are inaccurate. Of course the elderly need more protein than 60 gr. We are losing muscle as we age! We need more protein now more than ever! Personally I mentally chart my calorie intake and weigh myself daily so I know what I need to do. Apple cider vinegar is key also in digestion and burning fat. I put 1 to 2 tablespoons in a small glass and fill with a couple ounces of water and just chug it three times a day.

I'm so confused and frustrated. I've been doing ALL of this for the past THREE YEARS and I just keep gaining muscle but losing NO FAT; I even put on 2kg practically overnight last fall despite everything and I'm completely baffled. I just don't understand. The only area where I know I struggle is getting good sleep and managing stress, but with everything else I'm doing, shouldn't I be seeing some results? I'm only 43 and have been struggling for the past 5 years to get back to where I was when I was younger and it's just not working. I even wonder what's the point of doing anything if it's just not going to work? I've had bloods taken, too, and they can't find anything wrong. Is there some sort of secret handshake that I'm supposed to do before following all these tenets? Should I be wearing blue shorts instead of black? I cannot understand what's wrong. I'm completely discouraged and just looking worse and worse every day.

Hormones? Maybe your body is used to what you're doing and wants something new? Stress? Sometimes stress isn't obvious.

What's your diet if you don't mind me asking?

Cortisol is a hormone that instructs your body to store fat. Doctor Berg on KZbin talks about how this happens. So it pays to get rid of stress if you can find a way.
@panes840 Жыл бұрын
@flyboy3186 it can do that, yes. Thank you for mentioning it. Much appreciated. Sadly, I'm not a fan of Dr. Berg. He's been debunked on other things other and other, but his charismatic style is incredibly convincing! He's marketing worked!

I am 54 years old and 5 years post menopause. I don't take HRT although I am definitely considering it because my joints are so bad that I can't do hiit without injuring my knees, as well as other troubling symptoms. I have done weight training since I was 40. It is absolutely shocking to me how much my body has changed and how it no longer responds to diet and exercise like it used to. Also i do consume a lot of protein, 100 grams a day(I weigh 125) but maybe I need to up it? I have all this fat that has accumulated on my belly and it won't budge. Because my knees can't handle much at all any more I'm not doing HIIT or as many leg exercises when I lift. I recently began walking on the treadmill at 12% grade, at a moderate pace, for half an hour a few times a week. Do you think this is beneficial or too much like cardio? You have given me hope that I might just be able to get in shape again. Thank you.
