First of all, a huge thank you to BobVids for the incredible support throughout this whole ordeal. I'm truly grateful to have met him; he's genuinely a goodsoul. So, thank you so much, Bob! I'm feeling really down and upset with myself for helping someone like Artur. It bothers me that I let myself be manipulated and deceived. I keep wondering, what could I have done differently to see through him? When he first reached out, as the video details, he completely lied about who he was and his past. I believed he was a new indie developer, and I sincerely wanted to help, because that's just who I am-I like to help people. I won't pretend that this experience hasn't shaken my trust; it definitely has. I often help indie developers for free, spending hours on calls to offer advice and assistance wherever I can. But this has really knocked my confidence, and I'll find it hard to trust as freely as I did before. However, I refuse to let Artur change who I am. I want to continue being the kind person I know I am, and I’ll do my best to move past this. Lastly, if you're racist, transphobic, or hateful in any way, I have a simple message: please leave. For everyone facing racism or any form of hate, I am so, so sorry! Do what makes you happy and live your best life, because you deserve it. Love to all of you, and yeah, it’s going to take some time to process all of this!

It's true that we didn't have as much problems with racism as e.g. USA, France or UK because there weren't as many people of color here in the past (in the 19th century for example). Tbh after getting independency in 1918 and before WWII our country was seen as very open one in comparison. Of course as an European country we had a lot of problems related to antisemitism, even after the German occupation. People of color started to settle here in the 50s as an element of cooperation between Poland, USSR, China and North Korea and mostly in the 90s after the fall of USSR and the opening of the market. Then there were some racism issues which weren't really covered by officials - mostly in language (like offensive terms that have entered linguistic usage) and isolated racist attacks. The effect is that many folks who were raised before 2000s had limited knowledge and views on racism. I think Artur is a perfect example of it - not really racist but with limited moral compass from lack of knowledge. Anyway, not gonna lie - we're living in 2024, there were over 2 decades of the huge expansion of the internet, when we all here had chance to learn and become better. So not really defending the guy, just wanted to share an interesting context in my opinion.

also, LGBT-free zones are no more a thing as we've changed the government few months ago. It's not a very safe country for LGBTQ+ people beside few biggest cities and our current government is centrist-right-wing something but they started cooperating with EU again so hopefully we'll see a change soon. Warsaw is for example a very friendly city and I met there a lot of LGBTQ+ people who feel good here but there is still a lot to do after the last pro-catholic antitrans pro-life trump-esque govnmt which ruined a lot of things.

@@clumsyninja925 a lot of the conversation surrounding artur has been very spiteful and angry towards him - and rightfully so, he's done despicable shit, make no mistake. but the internet has a bad habit of building up peoples' identities on the things they've done, or whatever they're known for, which kind of results in them being codified as that one thing forever. like how james somerton is known by most people as The Plagiarism Guy now. it doesn't matter if people like artur do _want_ to change if they're simply not given that chance, because so much of the discourse surrounding them involves people spitting in their face for what they've already done. it can make them feel like they'll never be forgiven, or like they don't _want_ to associate with the people who are mad at them, and if we're not careful, it's possible they'll just double down on their old habits. hate and anger can be comfortable things to stew in, especially if they're already familiar to you. it's already so easy to fear and loathe what you don't understand, and if the unknown is openly hostile to you, it only gets easier to shrink away from it. i'm not saying anyone needs to forgive artur or make excuses for him; if he does want to be a better person, that _will_ hinge on him putting in the effort. and it'll probably be less daunting to get started if he gets some breathing room first. let the poor sod be on his own for a bit and think about what road he wants to take without people spitting in his face every other moment

I wonder to what extent cultural upbringing actually explains bigotry? I'm from Poland, but I've had the privilege to be born to well-off parents who moved a lot between countries and sent me to a boarding school in England. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I ended up identifying as firmly left-wing, with ambiguously European sensibilities. I imagine I would be far less so if I had stayed in Poland and fallen in with the wrong crowd. But still, it feels weird to hear someone bring up their country of origin as an explanation(?) for why they did a racism. There has to be some deeper emotional introspection there than just "my culture made me"...

I had to mute the video when Artur started talking to explain why he used the 911 call. And followed by Joe's genuine plea to explain why no one would ever want their call used for entertainment really hurt to hear. While I want to believe anyone can change, someone who's prime entertainment on Twitter being videos of black people being hate crimed/dying going on to using real audio of a SA strike me as someone who has a very, very long and cruel journey ahead of them for change. Poland does, in fact, have a shockingly large volume of violent Nazis in the country surrounded by an extremely Catholic community. Is that the entire country? No. Just like any other country, the majority of the people are normal, kind, empathetic people. For him to say as an adult he thought any of this was okay and blaming it on Poland is just ingenuine. Right now he's not looking to actually change, he is looking to cover up his violent racist, transphobic, misogynistic beliefs in order to still get money. At the very least I hope he never makes it in the game industry for many years to come.

Hell even I am not sure he deserves a second chance. That being said I consider his apology a positive. Being skeptical about his sincerity is where I would end things. You can still be angry for all the fucked up things he has done and I honestly am angry as well but if we are going to say “ok show it then” to him, I am not comfortable starting it with angry shouts. Hi, sorry this is off topic. but I watched both Voidburger playtrough's of SH: The short message. And am now watching a VOD of you two theorizing about it. I was wondering, have you come up with a solid theory that explains everything? I've been digging into it for a weak now, and I think I actually figured it out. It's really hard to find people interested in it. . My problem is that I really think the common consensus on the game is wrong. Most people get the main plot but there is a lot more if you want to explain most of the stuff that seem out of place at first.

Wait, the actual audio itself was from the real 911 call? I thought that whole thing with that was just about using exact dialogue from a real call for a recreation. I mean, both would have been incredibly shitty, but jesus christ, I was happier when I misunderstood that one. Fuck that shit, seriously.

I'd be curious to see if Artur does actually want to change down the line. I've seen folks do a heel-turn before, so its not impossible. But it's good you're not giving him the benefit of doubt. Its so easy saying you can change as person, but the actuality of doing it is long and bloody hard, and lots of folks balk the moment they get the first sign of pushback. It's something you have to truly, deeply want and work for despite if no one believes you.

If Artur Łączkowski had just recognized the awful nature of his hateful actions and resolved to change, all of this could have been avoided. A lot of people are unconsciously bigoted or hateful, so Artur's situation isn't really abnormal or irredeemable. The staunch refusal of Artur and bigots like him to become better people is mind boggling. I don't understand how people can admit to being pieces of shit and be proud about it.

Having lived in Poland as a kid… yeah. It’s really bad to be non-white or gay in that country, so to a degree I understand being born and raised in that environment and not questioning that mindset. However, that’s not an excuse for your behavior, it’s an explanation. You need to do the other half of that and improve yourself, and if you’re not willing to do that… that explanation becomes just another excuse that the rest of us should completely ignore.

So, I would like to state this: from a perspective of my personal lived experiences, unlearning what I've been taught by a Puritan society & putting victims front & center, I do not understand why you put in your conversation with Artur Łączkowski. If you honestly felt speaking to him was going to do anything productive, fine, but why put that in the video? I truly don't get that part. As much as you still were assertive in the conversation, it's just...when you converse with the bigots, it's giving them attention that I think is better suited elsewhere. It gives them validity.

This comment might get deleted or whatnot and I don't expect most of Bob's audience to agree but I am kind of weirded out by the practice of constantly saying you'd like someone to change while publicly telling everyone that you don't believe they're capable of it and that they will continue to lie about their progress. This isn't really about Artur, I don't give a wet fart about the guy nor should I care about some dude who seems to be making some of the worst cruft on the Steam horror page, but it's just this tendency I see not just in Bob but in a lot of folks on the left or who purport to believe in restorative justice. It is true, as a few commenters have pointed out, that Artur seems at least regretful of putting the 911 call in his game, and from the little Bob has shown us I don't find much reason to believe OR disbelieve him either way when he says he thinks it was a stupid decision. I did watch Bob's previous video on the guy and was obviously appalled, and I could believe that any behind-the-scenes interactions with Artur might have cemented Bob's conviction that the dude is incapable of change, but barring the possibility that there's stuff Bob just can't show us out of a respect for privacy (which: I assume Joe and/or his sister were OK about publicizing the attempt, right?), I don't know if blasting around that he seems like a piece of shit who can't change is gonna be, like, terribly conducive to actually changing someone's mind out of motivations that aren't plain shame or guilt? Ironically enough I'm writing this comment in the first place because I do think Bob of all people is capable of at least reflecting on issues like this. I'm sorry Joe and everyone else had to get caught in the crossfires of Artur's bad behavior.

Many people out there profess regret or intentions to change in order to enjoy an immediate reprieve, then have no follow-through. It's hard to say if this is because they never had the intention at all, or they were banking on people just forgetting their history once it's out of mind. It is deeply frustrating to have your trust in someone who claims they're going to change be betrayed like this. I understand having your guard up, and leaving room for people who aren't ready to forgive them yet. There is the further matter that even if someone does change, it doesn't erase what they've done before; that's still factually the case, and it's often worth it to remember the past even if someone does change for the better.

Yeah, I personally don't have any sympathy for Artur in particular (and he does seem to be a compulsive liar) but I don't think the rhetoric and tone around this is something people should be so comfortable with. It feels a bit like using the obvious moral superiority as "content" for a good video; look at this call of us telling him how to be good like us, the good guys! This kind of tactic can very easily be used against people who aren't as clearly bankrupt as Artur, and are more vulnerable as well. I know this is a tough topic for people to talk about, especially when they feel on guard from bad faith "so much for the tolerant left" criticism, but it's very, very worth people bringing up.

I want to say that I do not intend this to be a personal attack against you bob, so if that's the way I come across that is not my intention. Obviously, adding a real 911 call in any game is in very poor taste, and, in addition, the developer should not have lied regarding the numerous things he's accused of but I think you handled this poorly. At first watching these videos, I was under the impression the developer had made real racist transphobic tweets towards others or attacking communities via his Twitter, but he never has. If he did you would've shown it, but all he's done, in my view, is *like* problematic tweets. I read his blurry apology you showed in this video and he acknowledges that an immature part of himself found those tweets humorous. It seems to me that he had an edgy sense of humor but never actually composed any real harmful tweets towards anyone, so I don't believe he's an actual racist or transphobe. We should be more careful who we call racist or transphobic epecially since on the internet these terms get thrown around so much that the words themselves become or start to become meaningless. I don't think *liking* edgy tweets is enough to prove as a matter of fact that someone is definetly racist or transphobic. I think it might depend on the rubric or criteria you're using but this instance, to me, is not one of those cases. I can only speculate that the reason the developer's inital apology was deleted from his Twitter was because people didn't find it satisfying and left negative comments as per usual when a content creator posts an apology online. Whether he left the apology up on his Twitter or deleted it, I feel like it still wouldn't have been enough for anyone. Towards the end of this video you still discredit the developer and believe him to be a liar, poisoning the well to your viewers even after having that conversation with him. I don't think there have been any real victims of targeted harrsament or hatred involving racism or transphobia that have been made by this man. I'm willing to take him at his word and give him the space to change. Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything. I come in peace.

If your takeaway from these videos was 'Artur personally made racist transphobic tweets', well, that's not something bob said. If you took away that bob was specifically or definitively calling the man racist or transphobic, this also was not something bob said. All your comment reflects is your own difficulties listening and understanding this bit of nuance. bob simply stating facts in line with what he knew so people could make informed purchasing decisions about Artur's game should not have been very controversial, but it ended up resulting in a legal threat. Nobody is saying that Artur should go to prison or whatever you're thinking a lack of forgiveness would result in.

We also can't just float past some of the people mentioned in this video did some stupid and awful things too. Horrovisuals is notorious for defending anti-content warning sentiments and vehemently shared that sentiment to all of his followers saying the games were more important than people's feelings. The vtuber thing at the end sucks sure, but keep in mind we're talking about someone who made a joke out of the idea of sexualizing women and the objectification and commoditization of female streamers in online spaces with hypersexualized anime avatars. She does not give a fuck and it's telling her first reaction was "oh no what will they think of ME". I hate Artur and I adore horror games, but let's not pretend he came out of nowhere. You can be a violent racist and grow from it and become a well rounded person in the future but no one, especially black people and lgbt+ people, are required to accept his apology much less believe him. Considering the sides here are Bob and Joe being lied to and deceived vs Artur hiding as much evidence as possible until he was confronted with it by someone who was helping him earn money ( Joe ), yeah, I see why Bob doesn't like him and would shit on him for the entire video. It's not like Bob outright said Artur will never change; he said that Artur had promised multiple things for Joe and to charities in the end and that he would like Artur to change. And so far Artur has done nothing to show that he is doing so. People deserve second chances but no one that they harmed is obligated to give them that second chance.
