Denis You sent me a message just before I went on a magical retreat earlier this year. I asked about Hellenistic practices and whether I could book a talk with you to get a better idea of were to start etc. I saw the message pop up but thought I'll read that after my retreat but cannot find it. There used to be a KZbin messaging thing but I can't find that either. Could you prompt my memory as to where to find it. My name was Familythreegamers then. Adam

I have just discovered this channel, yesterday in fact, and I'm head over heels. I absolutely love this channel. You present this work in a intelligent, clear, concise manner, while at the same time you always get across the fact that you love what you do, and that you actually care about this. There are some channels that have books about the occult featured, where the person presenting with their purple hair and tattoos from the lesser key, where it all feels like Hot Topic magick. Like they are more concerned with being edgy than finding knowledge and understanding of the world. I dunno.. Either way, I just wanted to say thank you for approaching this the way that you do, and keep it up!

Everyone seems to want to look at ancients as having answers but they are like prophets and pioneers of what was to come. It’s just how life works. Everything said in books like this gains it’s power to direct our attention because it says what nature says about god. Yet that remains subconscious for most people and they actually sell themselves out for some lesser power. It’s a zany attempt at laying a kind of yoke onto the boundary of knowledge where the ocean of chaos beats the drum of the sands of time. Monkey god vs the pillars of the hand of the Buddha. It’s good to read these things but keep in mind that knowledge moves forward and growth is where you find life. Where you find real creative power. It’s silent, not full of fireworks, and all-consuming. Unity. Thank you for this review and it is quite interesting. This is timely because the dawn is now.

Knowledge does both can be found in the past or only as one moves forward. But how would you move forward with the best knowledge unless study is done of the past. History does repeat itself. Not literally being exactly the same but you can find patterns and many other things to help you move forward. This I feel is one great big problem we are facing now it's that they stopped teaching history. For the most part. & what is taught isn't true only what they want you to think & reading these old books is about the only way to gain some understanding of it. Why do you think they burn them in revolutions and right now the libraries are closed. So you can't know

Yes, well said indeed. Regardie said himself the intent was not to provide a finished philosophy because the initiates were meant to find truths on their own. I look at these systems as tools or templates that assist seekers in pressing forward into this abstract world.

So, after reading through all of these comments I wanted to point out a couple of things regarding this particular book. There are some really good comments, but there are also some of the most ridiculous comments that I have ever read. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn taught a system of Spiritual Attainment that is just as extensive as any form of Yoga or Buddhism. The difference being that it's western and is not Buddhism, Yoga, or really anything quite like any other thing in the world. We in the west call our systems of spiritual attainment that follow along these lines Magic(k). Some magical systems do utilize eastern techniques, and the Golden Dawn was no exception, but the point here is that our Western Esoteric systems as taught in the Golden Dawn and other orders are western equivalents to the Eastern methods of doing the same thing. Some people practice various forms of yoga, others Buddhism, others might practice Sufism, etc. The western equivalents to these types of spiritual traditions are what we call our Magical Traditions. The system of the Golden Dawn (and actually it's an offshoot of the Golden Dawn called the Stella Matutina) is outlined and given in the book up to a certain point, and there are many out there that criticize the book and those using it because it only has the basic teachings up to a certain point and no further. The problem with this criticism is that if a person actually achieves that state of Spiritual Progress that corresponds with that grade, then he or she will be guided from within for any further steps and progress. Thus, no further teaching needs to be included in the book itself. There are those that want to proclaim from the mountaintops that there are elements of Satanism in the teachings. Those people have yet to truly understand what Christianity is, where it actually comes from, what it has been responsible for, and how it sought to change and influence the course of history for the betterment of all people, and not just for those calling themselves Christian. Indeed, the Golden Dawn is rooted in Christianity although it doesn't appear to be so at first sight. For those that want to claim that this is a bastardized form of some ancient Kemetic system, those folks need to sit down and study the system before making such claims. The system itself is syncretic in that they took from a great variety of other world traditions, not just Egyptian. In this, however, nothing was "stolen or bastardized" but was made a part of a new system that somehow, and in some manner, accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish, which is spiritual enlightenment. The system is about letting go of the ego and getting in touch with what is the real person, the real you. It is a vast system that can only truly be understood by learning it step by step, and practicing the techniques over time. In that manner a much broader view of the entire scheme of what is going on within the system can be had, and that's when a much better understanding of it all begins to take place. The first thing that one has to begin to learn, however, is that the little ego is not top dog, nor does it have to be. The system as given in the book is not for the lazy and undisciplined person. Indeed, the system is structured and needs to be followed according to the structure as given. There are some exceptions that can be made, but if a person is working from the book, then follow the book and the guidelines for approaching the work given in the introductions of whatever edition you happen to have. This, however, is a major stumbling block to a great many that take up this work. Persistence, perseverance, and discipline are your friends in this regard. The only real obstacle is that there isn't a great deal of teaching on the Kabbalah, but there are a number of good books on the market that can be obtained second hand rather cheaply. Lastly, there are a great many people out there, and here in the comment section, that seem to have google eyes and fairy dust all about them. The Golden Dawn is not about having your head in the clouds, nor is it about everything being unveiled in the faery light of fluff and spice. Quite the contrary! The system of the Golden Dawn is designed to create change within the individual when and if necessary, change in the individuals life, and change in how they perceive life and the living of life. This is no easy task and can oftentimes lead to painful situations that must be worked through, but we have to keep in mind that the goal of the Golden Dawn system is a state of Spiritual Enlightenment, and quite often this is not something that can come about by continuing to lead our lives in the manner that we always have. Adjustments often need to be made both inwardly as well as outwardly, and this can at times be uncomfortable. All is not faery light and fluff in the world of Magic(k), and the magical traditions are not traditions that make everything easy. It is work, and quite often it can be the hardest and most difficult work that a person will ever undertake. The vast majority of people will walk away and play at lesser things when it gets to that point. Many people will baulk and criticize the size of the book. They will exclaim that this or that teaching isn't necessary, or that it's 90 percent fluff and padding and only a small portion of the text is relevant. What they fail to realize and understand is that the Golden Dawn system, as a spiritual system of attainment, is just as vast and extensive as any other system in the world. It is a spiritual technology that is as extensive as any form of Buddhism or Yoga tradition, just as extensive as the Sufi tradition, or any other spiritual tradition in existence. Contrary to what many may think or believe, Crowley was not the Golden Dawn. He was a member, but he wasn't the end all be all of the Golden Dawn, nor was he the only reason that there was schism in the original order. There were a number of forces and circumstances that led to the schism, and Crowley was simply the most visible and vocal. He wasn't, however, the sole reason for the initial schism. There were a number of things going on behind the scenes. Lasly, if anyone truly thinks that Trump is a member of the Golden Dawn, that person is completely clueless about what the Golden Dawn is actually about, but might understand their error if they began to truly study and practice the system.

Such an incredible book- never ending lessons to be learned within. Interestingly, these are the Rituals of the Stella Matutina, which was a surviving offshoot of the Golden Dawn, and the Rituals of the earlier Golden Dawn are in the Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic published by New Falcon, and is equally massive. Two Rituals for Higher Grades used by Whare Ra, a long surviving offshoot of the Stella Matutina are in The Secret Inner Rituals Of the Golden Dawn, also published by New Falcon. They are all so fascinating. I record the Rituals and listen to them as well, which has really helped. Thanks for another great review!

As one who followed their teachings for a while, they really fail to explain the kabbalah, and I'm sorry to say, it felt like for a reason. As a turned esoteric to full on kabbalist, I would push anyone interested in this to look into the teachings of The Zohar and Sefer Yetzirah, I'd argue it is the fulfilling factor. That is not to say I didn't love the book! It started my path and taught me many a great thing.

I bought this edition when I first wanted to dive into the Golden Dawn Tradition. This book is beautiful, and the updated pictures are marvelous. However, something I want to point out to anyone wanting to do the same, I ended up having to purchase the 6th edition as well. The reasons being, there are papers missing in this newer edition! Specifically, the one regarding the elemental grades. Also, all the previous introductions from the previous editions have been removed. Quite honestly, the content that has been removed in the 7th edition is rather indispensable. If you must choose between one or the other, I would recommend the 6th edition.

@@Foxy57237Christ never said he would return. Christ said Christ would return, and in a very cryptic way, mind you, as most versions dating up to modern times of Christian texts state. Take that how you will. I believe there will be a time of great enlightenment and spiritual revelation and awakening but it will take a lot to get there. I understand that your intent here is of course out of love, in an attempt to in your eyes “forewarn” or keep the person leaving this comment safe in your eyes, but do not shame anyone who simply has an interest in practices that simply defer from yours, magic(k) or not, especially not with loose threats of damnation. It does no good. It makes evident a sense of fear out of lack of understanding in your own self. I have nothing but love and respect for the fascinating story and teachings of Jesus Christ. I do not limit my spiritual understanding to Christianity however or any of it’s modern denominations, or historical interpretations. People and practice have a lot more in common than they do in difference, we must look past these differences instead of fighting over them as we have so often historically to come together and establish this age of new, positive, “godly” thought.

HOWEVER, through your channel, and as a clinical case study bibliophile, I've come to find these books fascinating. I've always found the subject matter interesting from an strictly empiric point of view, and great source of inspiration for my stories as a fantasy novelist, but I've mostly borrowed reference books from the library or bought the digital edition... now, now I really want to own (and am planning to buy soon as my next payday comes) several gorgeous volumes I've found on your channel, this being one of them. Not to mention, I find your videos both informative and extremely soothing... looking at gorgeous books like these, listening to the pages turning, etcétera. Not gonna try and go Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell with practical magic anytime soon (fantastic novel, by the way), but I'm certainly planning on enjoying them for research, for knowledge, and as very nice pieces to add to my collection.

I'm so glad you're finding value in these videos despite keeping a healthy dose of skepticism! Personally, my skepticism is what drew me to all this in the first place. There's none of this "believe or be damned!" attitude you find in most mainstream traditions. I like to be able to try something, and keep only what works. I mean sure , if someone wants to have a fight about a technicality, there'll always be someone out there to pick up the gauntlet XD I tend to like the "this is what works for me - what works for you?" approach :) Warmest wishes to you, Jorge! Bear in mind that Regardie did not have all the information of the HOGD when the book was first published and what he did publish was highly abridged. Also, the info he did publish was Stella Matutina and not the Original HOGD - they are similar but not identical. Finally, some of the Egyptian references date back to Wallis-Budge, which has since been re-assessed and corrected. The original work was based on the information available at the time.

At time stamp 16:56 you show the lovely coloured enochian watchtowers. I have the kindle version of this "The Golden Dawn". TO get a digital copy of these beautiful tables, I download kindle on my pc. I then open the digital book to the appropriate page. I then press "printscreen". Then I open powerpoint or equivalent; and then crop the image to my liking So for all those enochian practitioners out there, this is an awesome way to get your hands on the coloured watchtowers :-)

Books only exist 500 years in the form we know right now and it was Belisa Barca who invented the press technology, playing with wax and batik stamps ... she gave all the saints a book in their hands on her paintings - it would be a source of knowledge ... that's the force of creativity, but we seldom remember what inspired us. Making things too complicated is narcissistic, but sometimes it was the only way to preserve knowledge when people were more occupied with fighting. Belisa's life was the first life I remembered and it came in the form of a movie - that makes me conclude that we are all are playing the leading role in our personal movie. It was a door to another consciousness that contradicts everything we have learned about spirituality. Between her life and mine, there is the life of Johanna van Castilië and, since we have the ability to make the history real, it would help us to make movies that explain why it has become such a mess today. Johanna died in 1520, 500 years ago and I try to learn to reason logically again, why not give it a try? I don't have the intention to make those books forbidden again, but advise everyone to see the bigger picture - knowledge is only real, when shared and what is lost, will be lost forever!

Aleister Crowleys Magick Book Four. Is the next step up after you consume and understand the teachings of this tome. (It is my personal opinion. Sidenote: I am not saying that Crowley is the end all be all. BUT, like Zeppelin, the Beatles, etc. (to relate this to music) he is one of the all time greats and homage MUST be paid to the great mind behind his teachings, which were (and still are) poignant and radical to his (and our) time.

Foolish Fish I believe one of the last “master mages” to exist before Crowley was Solomon himself. Those Sumerians... elusive buggers they are! Interesting to know what knowledge was lost in the burning of Alexandria of their practices and mystical orders. What little we do have of their culture does wield great power... though if you talk to the right mage, the same can be done with fictional powers as well (such as Lovecraftian entities as a verifiable example) I think it goes back to the mind and the user/wielder thereof. Then there’s the question- are all of these Gods/Angels/Demons merely egregores of the minds eye, or do any actually “exist” in our universe. Does a mage HAVE to in fact look outside of himself, or draw power from “entities/gods” outside of himself.... or is the mind of the mage, and the energy he is producing out of it more than sufficient enough??? Can one draw the same level of energy out of playing their favorite song and drawing the energy out of the very frequency of the notes themselves? Things to think about (but that I also wouldn’t mind others input on/about) - The Curious Mage

Foolish Fish I do like ritual and ceremony.... especially when they give you the goose pimplies as they say. But I also want to question the need for such frivolities. Maybe, the need for those things is more mental than actually spiritual. (Maybe the average Joe cannot tap into the energies without the ritual, motion, of doing a,b,c to get the mind generator running) but if I’m right, then there is much misleading happening that you must follow certain formulae to get a desired result, when the same can be achieved without the incense burners, the chimes, etc. as long as you are engaging the senses (sight, smell, sound, touch, and in some instances taste) Magick CAN be performed in the most unorthodox or unbelievable of places. I have yet to read a masters work claiming or explaining such.... but I have some stories/experiences (and I bet a great many more than just myself have) that would argue the latter.

I see so much of what the GD was teaching about in what the A.’.A.’. does. Soror Nihil Obstat has written a marvelous book on how Crowley saw Kabbalah and how it is used in the order. Yes, Nephilim press. The author also used to send out signed copies, which might still be on the market. The book has 3 main parts - the sepheroth, the paths and the veils, all of which are described with the same kind of analysis you would expect to find in commentaries to the holy books of Thelema, the quotes from which are of course generously sprinkled within the text

I made a video about a year ago called occultism Vs mysticism (or something along those lines) where I approach this question. I think different people need different things to reach the core. That's not too say everyone can't approach it, it's just not the best path for everyone. 👍

The exact same thought crossed my mind after making it 50 pages through this book. It seems like an overwhelming labyrinth of understanding and knowledge, much of which seems unnecessary, and perhaps for the purposes of creating social cohesion. I like to separate the practices and the knowledge from all the extra.
@thedevilsadvocate8766
@thedevilsadvocate8766 4 жыл бұрын
The point of the mazes and labyrinths is pretty much laid out in the First Lecture of this book, my dude. It's symbolic language meant to show otherwise hidden, or "occult", relationships between seemingly unrelated concepts. The further you advance in the order, the more complex and/or abstract the symbols become in order to relate more complex or abstract ideas. In a sense, yes, it is a heretic question because as much as we want all people to enjoy and benefit from the knowledge that we have, the harsh reality is that there are still people who simply are not ready to accept or handle the very real responsibility that comes with this kind of power. The orders of the world maintained strict silence because of this. However we live in a world today wherein each day more and more people come to understand the basic ideas which lead one to these orders. I, personally, feel that silence is no longer necessary but I also KNOW that if i just rambling about these very abstract concepts to your average Joe he isnt going to understand a word of it. The mazes and labyrinths serve a dual purpose in the modern era: firstly they screen out the dabblers and secondly they provide a framework of symbology from which even a small child can learn. Idk if that made any sense but it's how it was explained to me when I was a member and asking the same questions.

Natasha, I would direct you to Mark Passio. He does a great job of introducing people to the occult. He has a ton of lectures on YT and a podcast called What On Earth Is Happening.

Is this book comparable to the secret teachings of all ages by Manly P Hall? Or does it have different information in it?

Have you ever came across a book titled “Masters of the Universe” (not He-Man)? With or without the gold cover?

I love your videos. Finding them has fostered a very lovely relationship with reading esoterica. You mention a couple of books (I believe) Higmantia/Hygmanschia and Pig of Tricks. I couldn’t quite figure it out. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction? Thanks!

The only book I have that has anything to do with occultism is called “Nazis and the Occult”. I’m a nerd for WW2 and other wars. It goes well with my other WW2 books.

I have read this book, and I follow this tradition, for the most part, it has everything I needed in a Magick path while remaining a Catholic like many of it's members were originally and still are, or Christian, Egyptian, Greek, Mirrors, Tarot, Angels, Demons, Cabala etc!!!! It's a great part for those interested in High Magick, I practice a lot of low Magick as well but, The lesser Banishing, middle pillar Etc!

This may sound stupid, but I have no interest in practicing any magic, but, I’ve recently become interested in learning the esoteric sciences, the mystery schools, etc. I do plan on purchasing this book.
