i've seen with flick the most perfect positional 433 since guardiola. perfect because position is what matters, not players. all zones are perfectly occupied, albeit not by a fixed player as it was with xavi. triangles are there, as with xavi, but players rotate in a way xavi didn't allow. this and the fact that flick has midfielders doing midfield things, forwards doing forward things and so on, contrary to xavi playing with the 8s between central defenders and fullbacks, a place in which they're completely inefficient. defensively, the main difference for me is the intention in the press. with xavi it was all in, with flick if the ball cannot be won at least the press is meant to force the opposition to play in a certain way that benefits us. as i said in the beginning of the comment, this has the most guardiola vibes in years.
@sbaffolodellapuffetta2029Ай бұрын
Yeah but in the movement of the central players you can clearly see Freedom from any kind of dictat (positional sides, for example, state that there should be no more than two players on a vertical Channel and no more than three on a orizzontal One), with Just the goal of finding space in between Lines and players. Sometimes when the ball goes out Wide you can see all the team but balde and yamal almost shift completely on One flank. It's also important to underline that Flick's game Is very vertical and sometimes It almost seems they force killer passes, something different from pep's idea. That's at least what i saw 😁
@XPL80Ай бұрын
@sbaffolodellapuffetta2029 and that is the most similar to Guardiola's barça I've seen in a long time. Guardiola was no Xavi, people don't recall the style of play, assume it from what he and Barça do or have done recently. But I can assure you he used inverted fullbacks (Abidal), inverted wingbacks (Alves), and absolutely mobile midfield, specially with Cesc Fábregas. Only Busquets was positional, as is casadó. The rest, the same with Pep.
@sbaffolodellapuffetta2029Ай бұрын
@@XPL80 i remember him coaching barca, i am not thirteen years old. While it's true that his style changed in time and that his blaugrana team had a lot more positional and intuitive freedom than his later sides, It's also true that we cannot call their, conceptually speaking, a relational approach, there were defined structures in wich they could have moved, studied ones. In Flick's side, on the other hand, you can clearly distinguish a perimetrical structured part of the team and a "free to find space" part inside the pitch. Then again, it's Just what i saw of the game, maybe i'm wrong, but i clearly see a functional interpretation of the space in what they do. Also, in the First comment, you stated that Flick is positional like Pep, now you Say that Pep was relational like Flick ("only busquets was positional")... So i don't get your point. P.S. i'll rewatch some old barca games (integrally) and try to see if i remember wrong, but i recon players moving fluidly yes, but in pre-determined positions

the best way for the relationist game improve and gain more space in football is to mix and learn from positional play, if the relationists coaches become too attached to their philosophy and principles, without adapting and learning from other ways of seeing and playing football, it ironically can become as strict and imprisoning as the rigid positional game they are contesting with.

I'd say it has to do more with wanting to play direct football. Some bad pre-conception of modern football that many positional managers make and have caused is not practicing exchanging of position a lot throughout the game (having 2 guys switch positions while making both a run in behind/space and the other asks for a ball at feet with a different side movement). They all just go and play with all of them locked into a position with horseshoe nails. Mostly the positioning of Wingers, I have not seen a German coach that doesn't play with wingers who actually make forward runs into the 3 inside channels and the opposite center back, from Klopp, Dino Topmoller, Sebastian Hoeness, back in time Heynckes to when Tuchel had good spells, to Naggelsmann when he had to use 3-4-3s. The role of the roaming second forward or of the 2 wingers is to make runs and attack the last line of defense, that's where space is created for many German/German upbringing coaches, direct football, direct passes and quick combinations in the last third and take a pass when there's space.

Random opinion here but you should mostly concentrate on the players having better physique, first touch and for them to not give the ball right away (usually most university and amateur teams play in 2 touches even when there's space to dribble/turn around. A good channel I'd recommend you is GEDfootball who used to make tactical analysis but now concentrates on individual players and what they ought to think and do of when facing playing situations (he's a big fan of Argentinian football and used to work at Argentinos Juniors one of the teams with the best youth systems in Argentina)

I see a lot of amateur men's and lower-level women's teams trying to play the same way as top teams, insisting on playing out from the back when they simply haven't got the players with enough technical quality to do so, and getting caught time and time again, but insisting on it because 'it's the right way to do things'. No, the right way to do things is what suits your players. If playing total route one is the best way for your players to thrive, do that. Obviously there is a grey area where the players are nearly good enough but just need to get used to it.
@okekechinedu-eg8op3 ай бұрын
@GuyJames true, but actually the thing is My wingers most of them can actually dribble but can't make a cutback or cross while the other can cross and create cutback chances, so I really get confused on the style of play that can suit but wingers and to top it up I only have cfs who play more like a ss. This issues are making my attack weak and in my defense they can mark but can play from the back but I have midfielders who can carry the ball from defense to attack and can give accurate long balls from deep. So please I seek u guys help on how to improve this team before our next fixture

Under Xavi those 2-1 wins usually showcased a team that scrapped for the 3 points, while under Flick you can see the team attacking, pressing, and looking for another goal. Sure, but why not adjust the tactics for the players you actually have on the pitch? Why play this high press with ultra-slow CBs? When he has zero players injured and all his favourites on the pitch it probably works well. But that's like 5 games a season. I think Hansi Flick's understanding of football has nothing to do with 'relationism'. Most of the ideas he is using now he already were using in Bayern. In my opinion his actual squad is even stronger in possession then the one he had in Munich. Müller was not in his prime anymore, Olmo probably is. Yamal and Raphinha are better options then Sane, Coman or Gnabry. Question will be how good this team is in defending. The central defenders and holding mids are very young, Kounde is a bit overrated and if Balde can be as good as prime Aphonso Davis, I don't know... Will be nice to see. But please don't try to see everywhere the same ideas. He has nothing to do with the relationism of Deniz. Ancelotti has also nothing to do with that and Xabi Alonso also not. Rotations, overloads and stuff like that are not new ideas. Just some coaches lilke them more than others bc they go hand in hand with some risk's when you loose the ball. Flick, as well as Ancelotti, is just looking for the optimal use of the threads of his squad. The idea to defend in the first line with the wingers and closing the center with Lewandowski + Olmo is a perfect example for that. If they really win the ball during pressing, what would you do with Lewandowski in the most advanced position? Nowadays he is not fast enough for counter attacks and Olmo also not. But Yamal and Raphinha are really dangerous in attacking free spaces. It's the same idea which Klopp were using in Liverpool when they played with Firminho, Sala and Mane.
