That's a very harsh and toxic call! You like many don't get it! It's a default call which meets the demand to keep the game flowing, frenetically I might say! The media full of ex players all experts in what's good for the game! Can take the rap for that. I'm not a Collingwood fan but if the Ump doesn't blow his whistle it's play on! If he blew it......nobody heard it? Did the Ump blow two or three blasts to make it clear? I don't think so......but I'm not certain on that. Blaming Kane for making a system call is being too Klanish! Anyway the kick went in and was successfully defended! Personally 50 metre penalties to win a game are not in the interests of sportsmanship. I'm in great favour of all penalties being 20 metres and doing away altogether with the 50! Which in my 20 year experience is often misused to give favour to a rabid Melbourne stadium full of gangsters! 😅

I am not a Collingwood nor Nth Melb. supporter but that non desition by the umpire for a 50 metre penalty in the last minutes of that game was a joke and you can spin it every way you like it was a blunder of the worst kind so why not just own up to it, the umpiring this season so far has been mediocre at best in most games I've watched, 4 umps on the ground and they still can't get it consistantly right.

@@kelstra1997 I'd even go with Eddie Maguire's suggestion on the Eddie & Jimmy podcast of having the four umpires each controlling a quadrant of the ground and, instead of them running from contest to contest all over the ground, they remain in their designated quadrant for the contest to come to them. This enables an umpire from another quadrant more than likely to be in a better position to make a decision should the controlling quadrant umpire be out of position or blindsided by players to make the call themselves.

It's admirable Kane is trying to keep an 'open dialogue' with fans but admitting umpiring errors made each week that cost teams games, money, finals sets a dangerous and unfeasible precedent. Unless they are going to give a full wrap report of every umpiring error made during the game it doesn't make any sense. Are they going to do this if it costs a team the Grand Final, opens up all sorts of legal liability.

Norf player marks, TWO Pies players continue to run at him, encroaching the mark by close to ten yards, the Norf player PUTS UP HIS HAND to signal he is NOT playing on and is claiming the mark. The Pies players have STILL not retreated.. the ump calls them back, as they move backwards, the Norf players moves OFF his line to the RIGHT, and sure, that was PLAY ON in 1987 but not today as umpires allow it all the time.. Norf player runs to about where the mark WOULD HAVE BEEN ANYWAY and kicks the ball. So the Norf player was CLEARLY impeded in his ability to dispose of the ball QUICKLY which under any metric, is a 50 penalty.

It would have brought him to 20-25 out on a very slight angle. Even if it wasn't paid, you've then got to look at Daicos' non-handball and Quaynor's throw that would make him a starter with Melbourne Storm. Both occured inside the Roo's 50m and would easily have resulted in goals.
