What a beautiful build. My wife sitting beside me was loving all the choices you made for interior materials used. We are actually thinking of doing the same thing but I am very new to Expedition Vehicles. We live in Portugal and I wanted to know what's the reality of driving these trucks on Europe? We initially wanted to get a Toyota Troopy and build it out, but we figured why not build T0 apartment on wheels! Especially with house prices the way they are!

Thank you… To be honest it is amazing driving it though Europe. As we are not that big we will get along almost every path we had in mind taking. Next time we might make it a little bit lower as we are 3,95 high and especially in England and off road tracks. We have sometimes a little trouble with low hanging branches. Rather than that we are pleased with it. Even into the cities we can almost get to every center. Where it is allowed and where we wish to get to. So for us there would still be no other choice than our vehicle and to be honest when you get into Middle East or Africa where we are currently. You need a strong vehicle. It will be torn apart especially in Africa the roads can be terrible

I've lived in Iraq, UAE and Jordan and I completely understand the importance of having a strong vehicle. Very cool ! As a German I did have to laugh at one point though: Making sure the drawers don't open during off-roading with electro-magnets is a solution one of our guys might have come up with. Not saying it's stupid - just "sophisticated" 🤣

No we had no troubles with the inspections, as we repaired it correctly. And to be honest. we are away from our country nearly 2 years and no MOT (APK) needed when traveling freely around.

A hell of a lot of work and money. Incredible job. But I’m concerned that once you start 4X4 ing, with all the body movement, twisting, bending and things expanding and contracting with the deferent temperatures. It has been a hell of lot work but it is more than worth it. We are currently in Africa and yes 4x4 it still holds on. But you are more than right about what it does to our truck. Had not expect it to be so bad in some places. Just Some lock have been hard to keep from breaking down but with the electronic magnets at the kitchen we are all fine. Going down under? We love Australia and New Zealand…. It won’t get better anywhere on the worldl than there 😍

engine is a 340 HP, we have a standard 6 shifts hand gear with the option for 6 more low. As you can see. for the rest you should not ask me as I know very little of our engine. The entire cab can go up so service is not really a problem. we leave that to the mechanics 😉

Thank you. Yes this is our First project. We didn’t care of the weight as we have a 16 ton chassis and 3 spares. We are planning to life fulltime in it for a couple of years so we needed it to be and feel like our home without holding back with our comforts. The total weight ready to drive is 13.000 kg, including everything we have on board.

After reading some of the comments about the larger tires that you put on, did you by any chance take the truck to check the alignment? I know every time I get new tires thats the first thing I do.... Alignment is relatively cheaper than preserving those expensive tires. Just a thought! 2003, we received a devastating diagnosis. Within a week -- while selling everything -- we acquired a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck and converted it to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle. Two decades full-time live-aboard. Twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles around South America. Alaska, Panama, all over North and Central America. Summers up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes. Winters on isolated Baja beaches. . And 'yes', we acknowledge some folks prefer building rather than getting out and having fun.

fantastic workmanship, i believe you could add a balcony on the rear, like a tailift that lays flat on the back, simply undo catches, fold down, swing out support legs, steps and safety rail with a cassette roof blind attached to the top of the truck...just an idea I have always had..... can't wait to see your trips.

High quality result, luxury with a lot of autarchy. Well done! I have a question: Where did you register the bigger weels on the truck's documents? In Germany or in The Netherlands? Because in Germany I found (in internet) that, since the bigger weels change the emissions, a new emission test is required to have them registered, and it's not the easy test that you have to do for the periodical technik control, but the same hard test that the car makers have to do in order to "homologate" their cars. It's very expensive and often it results in rejections. What is your experience? Did you have to do something like that? And where? Thanks

Hi. We did the registration in the Netherlands. But this also took me a hard time. Because of the higher weight and the bigger tires, it didn’t pass the breaking tests. We got in contact with the fabric (Daimler truck) and asked for what could be a solution. They gave us a document that the inspectors could do the test with more pressure (normally they test with 7 bar but our system has 8,5) so the test was run again with 7,5 and we passed the tests without any problems. Hope this helped. Ps. The professionals we asked told us that it is easier in the Netherlands and for example spain to convert a vehicle because of the regulations

Your truck is considered suitable for such tires by the carmaker, evidently they made the very same truck of yours with such big wheels originally from the factory, so you are allright; however kudos to Mercedes that is backing the owners who gets their trucks also after many years, I think that it's not smth that someone should give for discounted. Sadly I was hoping for a story like one of the guys in America: "I put the tires on place, went to the local autority and got them registered, all alone, coz the Netherlands are awesome! We have freedoom!"; which is pretty much what I need because no carmaker will ever back me on placing bigger tires on a regoular 4x4 van like a sprinter, and no stock 4x4 van has enough ground clearance and wheels that are big enough. Then, after getting the stuff written on the papers, I could have imported the van in my country because they are forced to accept whatever vehicle with whatever MOD if it has been registered in any country of the EU... So now I know that what I would like to do is not possible in the Netherlands too 😭😭😭 And to legally get some clearance for a van, the only way I know so far for ppl in europe is to go for a professional conversion that will cost starting from 40 grands...😱
